Shadowsword is my favorite too, so much so that I gave mine a name: Bismarck. He is feared by many of my friends as he has killed 4 tyranofexes, 2 ghostkeels, a broadside, a Genestealer mining truck, a knight and 2 montarions in his lifetime.
in one of my games my shadowsword 1 shot a knight on the first turn and then another on the very next, doing 38 damage. the thing is insane. It usually always one shots land raiders for me and preds easily. Just think of it as a one thing will die per turn with it tank.
Aye. Mine is reliable versus knights and is great for cracking open heavy transports like battle wagons early on and forcing the other player to march. I sometimes use the Stormlord if I'm facing Orks, Mechanicum and it shreds through Mobs as long as you use Snipers or Scions to kill forcefield generators otherwise it just gives them a blooding. Overall I prefer the Shadowsword when playing against Marines because it will kill heavy infantry and dilutes enemy fire against my squashy units. I have deliberately used both varients to charge into close combat and they perform well enough and as long as they arnt charged into thunder hammers they kill enemies or tie them up with the additional benefit of tempting the other player to abandon their strategical plans in order to commit to killing it. Then again I regularly perform the same tactic with my Leman Russ Tanks, late game because I found that screening a static gun line is a limitation to mobility and grabbing objectives. The difference though is that our superheavy tanks are actually our best close combat units 😍
@@ghostwood9174 the best knight counter in my experience is chaos contemptor dreadnoughts with chain fists buffed to hell and back by khorne related stratagems.
on the point information whithout any unnecessary stuff. this makes your videos one of the best i came across so far. thanks and keep up the great work.
Was wondering if you have any tactics for sentinels? Everywhere I look, everyone has different opinions as to how you build them, so I would like your input.
Sentinels are fun, but a it depends what you want them to do, if you use them for easy point grab just make them cheap, and multilaser. If you are catachan, heavy flamer has an arrasement unit is fun. you can also make them shooting plataforns in this case i would sugest, cadian or vostroyan. On Cadian, before first turno make a movement to set up and them they fire 4 plus to hit reroll 1, options, with this i sugest autocannon or missile launcher you can try lascannons not bad, just think the other options give more versatbility., With vostroyan any weapon works, the plus 6 range, and strat that makes them hit on 3 plus always nice :D
The Stormlord is the only variant that can carry a full squad of Ogryn or Bullgryn and a priest. Drive up the middle blasting away. Use your guns and ripper guns to clear screens. Turn 2 disgorge your Ogryn and charge with the tank to absorb overwatch. Use the Crush them strat. Charge with the Ogryn and priest too. If both get in what can stand against that?
I think it was on "Almost Pro Gaming" I saw a guy do a list of a fuckton of baneblades. That must be so fun to play with. Just seeing your opponents face when they are thinking "Ok, Guard, I'm going to schwack a lot of guardsmen." Then you start pulling multiple gigantic tanks out of your carrying case, one after another. Whats better than one baneblade? two. Whats better than two? three. I believe he put them in super-heavy detachments so he can give them regimental keywords, Vostroyan, if I remember right. Super-Heavy Tank Commander? Yes, please.
I did a 4 bane blade list and it was fun. People were like "oh are you playing Gur....oh......oh no" My list is vary basic, Cadia for Regiment 2 detachments one with 2 company commanders 40 (60 with recent point drops) standard infantry guys and the other with 2 bane blades with heavy bolter sponsons Banesword and a banehammer. I take the Banesword as it has a bit more consistent damage and is cheaper than a shadow sword. I might swap the Bane hammer for another Bane Sword. Its like knights in a way without the inv Save. I would also run the tanks down peoples throats and use "crush them" on hard targets and charge other units just to get them to fall back and disable units for a turn but that is more of a haha funny thing to do in most cases. Im still new with it but you dont have a lot to keep up with so your can focus on having fun.
Chris Murphy or, if you feel like screwing with your opponent, you can make a stormlord tallarn, fill it with guardsmen and put it in outflank for 3cp. Having 40 guardsmen in a tank with 20 s6 ap-2 d2 shots as well as being open topped.
I'm a massive fan of the shadow sword, although it's not as practical as the other variants its just hilarious deleting just about everything it fires at
I have only had the chance to use my Cadian Shadow Sword once in a battle against some Orks. The Volcano Cannon makes Killa Kans and Deff Dreds go "pop!" really well. I love that they are such beefy models and really put a presence out there on the field.
From Mordian Glory he suggested for fighting 5 knights to try four baneblades. So i fielded two baneblades and two shadowswords. It was fun but i wish i had four shadowswords haha its THAT powerful against knights. Still lost though - chaos knights are very close combat kill-y.
I've been taking the Banesword for the last ten games, or so. It's been performing admirably. Nothing outstanding other than killing a demon prince in close combat with crush them stratagem.
banehammer to me seems to be a very good answer to those 1st turn charging lists that try and run up the entire length of the board. you can shut genestealer swarms down, make blood angels sad, and make nurgle actually slow.
The stormlord is my favorite. I added another set of sponsons (for a grand total of 30 heavy bolter shots) and just plunk it in the middle of the board and dare my opponent to charge it... take it as Mordian, with defensive gunners and it will hit as well on overwatch as it does in the shooting phase. And then pray to the Emperor you’re facing choas so you can pop Vengeance for Lost Cadia so you can get all those sweet re-rolls.
Or take it as Vostroyan. +6 inches on those Hvy Bolters (and the other guns).. The Vostroyan Strat gives +1 to hit. Use a Trojan Support Vehicle to give the tank re-rolls. Use the Vengeance Strat to give one unit of embarked Hvy weapons re-rolls.
I realize alot of people probably don't care but I'm a bit of a Raptors chapter fan and would love to see lias issodon in a video, love to hear any tactics I haven't thought of.
I've used the stormlord as a party bus with 3 heavy weapons crew (6 las and 3 missile) with a commander and 2 infantry squads just to drive at the enemy, by turn 3 the storm usually was badly damaged but still chugging along and the infantry squads could move move move onto backfield objectives and with very little to stop them, the stormlord fire power is quite lack luster it'll plink wounds of hard targets if you can wound and was killing 10 or so gants (with 6 fnp) a turn, but it enables the heavy weapons crews to shoot for 3 turns and if theres no cc to go into the heavy teams they've got another turn of shooting. But i did have a 3+ hitting bane blade taking the attention away from it which always was bracketed by the end or out and out destroyed. The main reason I take baneblade varriants over russes are for the close combat they can do and the fact they cant be tied up in combat and can pull back shoot then 1cp to hit on 2s and run over the target infront of them. they are the ultimate close combat deterrent, but most armies don't field dedicated melee units
HI very good video. I tested out a couple of varients, in general the one i end like the most the the normal Baneblade, either in vostroyan or catachan (reason vostroyan strat that gives a plus 1 to hit and increase demolisher cannon range, Catachan capable of rerolling number of shots), the reason i put the baneblade is because he is a swiss army tank, if you are fighting lot of armor his main cannon, demo cannon and lascannon amazing, and the twinlinkedheavy bolter vs infantry, if fighting a lot of enemies, the ridiculous amount of shots he makes can really put a hammer down. Now if you know you are fighting knights or heavy armor then Shadowsowrd is my second best pick this one in vostroyan having that start plus 1 to hit makes it amazing hitting knights on 2 plus, and having yarrik to rerrolls 1 is going to be a nightmare for enemy Adecionally i advice 2 astropaths and mechic with the this tanks, psyquic barrier and nighsroud increases their survivalbilaty by alot, and astropath can remove cover saves in 18 incs from them so that is helpfull too XD
I know this video is a year old. But can anyone tell me where I can find the current in play rules for each of these variants? I have the Imperial armour compendium and Astra millitarum codex but appear to only have the data sheer for the Stormblade :/ (not even listed. So confused.
jusy like the idea of 20 ratlings in a stormlord focusing the every living shit outa a character first before the rest of the 10 heavy bolters 4 lascannons and the mega bolter ripp apart the rest of said characters little party

Fitting name.
This feels a lot like an Army Briefing. Takes me back to the good ol' days.

Tanksniper it’s a mean dmg dealer, especially with vostroyan , but it dies so damn easy

Certainly will :) they're on the agenda...
Do not give them melee equipment and the single-use rockets, waste of points. Sentinels are for grabbing objectives only.
The rest is up to you.

Yes.
Ah yes. The Catachan Shadowsword. I figure they use them on their home world to hunt megafauna which is why they’re so good with them on the tabletop.
Cadians, Valhallans, and Vostroyans are better with Shadowswords. you want Catachan for the Hellhammer, God of Melee

I thought the baneblade had a autocannon coaxial too , and the hellhammer has a demolisher cannon too
Should have included the Stormhammer!
I know, man! Hoping to see Stormhammer on this list is practically the reason I'm even here. Too bad.
Just in time before I paint my baneblade!
So, is the hellhammer actually worth putting in a standard 2000 point army
I’m curious as to how the stormblade stacks up against these
pretty badly
Pat Richards not what I was asking but ok 👍🏻
I prefer the Banehammer. Use it plus the strat for Emperors Artillery and tou can slow down a lot of units.
Doom Hammer or Bane Hammer?
I prefer the hellhammer the range of 36 plus it's movement compensates for the baneblades 72 range, opponents just disappear

So... Why would anyone pick the stormlord?
A Baneblade also has a coaxial autocannon, so that's not even an advantage the Hellhammer has over it.
Southern England?

Shadowsword all day every day. Nothing comes close.

I actually think the Hellhammer should be the best. Just because the game is slewed now for HTH going to a 44x60 board.
