In my 60 years of exploring mines, I've collected many dynamite boxes and this is how I learned to estimate their ages- 1st the notched wooden boxes, then the nailed wooden boxes and last, the cardboard boxes like you found at the mouth of the mine. I watch a lot of mine videos and you bring a lot of expertise in many areas that ad a new dimension to mine videos. Great job.
Each week it seems the productions just get better and better. You've come a long way in a short amount of time Gly. Seems you may have found a second calling. That drone was a great investment, and your narration skills are some of the best I've ever heard. Thanks for sharing and caring about the videos you put out. I believe you're on your way to your wish of having the best mine exploring channel out there. Awesome job as always Otto. I hope one day to run into you out on the trails. You never know, as big as it is, this can be a small world sometimes. Stay safe Buddy.
probably the third time watching this episode and ive got to say the opening dialogue during the drone footage is truly epic and masterfully done and and draws you to the edge of your seat
I just had the funniest thought of you stumbling across active mining on one of your explores, and just walking up to them with your pads and helmet and cameras etc, and the only thing you say is "What year is it, Citizen?" and then walking back into the mine and out of sight after they reply. I mean, go back and talk to them, but that would be a GREAT prank for about 3 min while they all just looked around like you were the terminator or something LOL
Your intros just keep getting better and better. Thank you for these fascinating episodes especially during these strange times we are living these days. They are a bit of a mental get away for me. Really cool mine, I love that escape route except that it didn't go anywhere! You should have added "Not any more!" to those signs. Thanks, Gly, see ya next week. Stay safe.
Can't get enough of your adventures. Living in Florida we do not have scenery like those you show. Beautiful. Hoping one day you will find an escape route in one of these mines. I heard you say that you have done mining in the past and it shows. I would be claustrophobic as heck. Watching you go up those terraces and janky ladders, just to have to turn around and go back. I have been watching older videos. Love the intro of you scratching your butt puts a smile on my face. A little comedic goes a long way. Be safe.
love the drone shots ..... now thats a long haulage line to the tram towers ....those tracks look a little wide ....nice looking accumulators .... some extra ANFO too..... Safety fuse ..... fault gouge in a shear zone ....striations referred to as slickenside...... you should take samples across the vein structure where you see the survey markers.... ..... those pants and top are called slickers .... they do that for cut and fill stoping ....you were heading out but it is choked off from erosion....
“Gly”: Slickers! Now that’s the word I was looking for! Not remembering that bugged me for the rest of the day. So you saw that fault gouge next to the hanging wall to? Didn’t that stuff look tasty? Makes me want to go back in there with my Estwing and pick away like a madman. Thanks Jeff!
@@Askjeffwilliams Thought you said ANFO was tasty at first...that stuff has a unique flavor when it gets in your lunch. I ate quite a few ANFO-seasoned peanuts underground!
That was a close one, I almost slipped out of your pocket at 46.40 when you made adjustment. Hunkered down the rest of way out. Amazing how you keep going and going. Nice!!
Keep putting out quality videos like this and one day you will join the ranks of TH-camrs with dozens of people writing 'first' in the comments. That's when you know you've made it big!
Nice to see this one hasn't gotten gated like so many others have. I was at this one eight years ago, so I always wondered if it had gotten gated in the meantime. Things still look pretty much the same in your video as what I found when I was there. We didn't explore this one as much as you did. Ours was more of a cursory exploration. Really wasn't into climbing ladders back in those early days. Nice video!
“Gly”: Thanks Frank! I liked this location allot because it had that really old mine classic look about it especially the portal. This was a really great site to document.
Abandoned and Forgotten Places I agree about that portal having a very classic look to it. In fact, I really have never seen one like it since. Also, the tram station at the top of the hill is cool. Never have seen something like that, either. It’s a very unique site! I was just glad to see that the portal is still open at this late date. Like I said, I had always wondered about that one. By any chance, did you stop at the small talc mine that’s lower on the mountain? As you’re going up the road towards the Soaring Eagle Mine, it would be off to the right on a branching road. I never made it over to that talc mine, believe it or not! I got a report, though, years ago that there is no underground access there even though ore cart tracks can be seen in the satellite imagery. Heard it was collapsed.
“Gly”: I know exactly the one your talking about. I have that talc mine on my itinerary but I waiting for all of these after shocks to settle down a bit before going into soft strata mines. It does look interesting and your right... it does have noticeable rail that can be seen on Google Earth. While I wait for things to settle down a bit I’ve been working on a very large mine over the last week. You may have documented the one I’m working on once before, Part 1 begins this coming Saturday. No spoilers! Lol
“Gly”: Followup: Indeed, you Paul and Justin did document the mine I’m working on now back in 2016. Part 1 and 2 will be similar to what you guys discovered but after that Part 3 or 4 has me exploring the escape routs and stopes. I think you’ll find it interesting that the mine hasn’t changed much since you guys were there.
Abandoned and Forgotten Places If it’s the one I’m thinking of, be careful on that one level where the major collapse was! The rock down there is very crumbly compared to the rest of the mine. That collapse has pretty much sealed off that level anyway so there’s not much to explore on that level from what I can remember.
Realizing this may not get read as it's 3 years old but anyone else notice that the "right-hand" rule seems to have gone out the window on this haulage adit, Gly seemed to bounce back and forwards on which way he was going, I think he missed another drift on the way back to the escape ladder? At 16:37 he didn't explain the sacks (no doubt samples) and the other tool next to those modified pieces of rail. Love the site, nice seeing the upgrades as I follow each episode chronologically. Stay safe!
Dang it Gly, you had my personal winky all puckerd tighter n.. a .....well......ahhh.. you know.....and it was too!! Those sketchy ladders over that one time fall hole was knarly....

Might I suggest that with an explosives box at the adit, you might want to turn it over with your walking stick as it is a great place for snakes to hide. I learned the hard way that scorpions and snakes find the boxes to be an excellent shelter. This is a great tour and shows a lot about the geology of slip faults. Looks like it might be fun to see if that last passage on the escape route could be cleared. Thanks for another great video !!
I had one drop down into some core boxes from the brow of a portal. It was more angry about that than I was, got ready to strike a friend who was exploring with me, and I blew it in three pieces with a 12-gauge.

Another terrific video Gly. Yours is one of only two mine explorer channels I sub to & it's number 1. Looks like the "escape" route had been backfilled to stop "tourists" & ", weekend warriors" from getting in with inevitable results.
“Gly”: Thanks Phillip! I really appreciate that and I’m happy your enjoying the channel. I didn’t notice it until I got back and reviewed the footage but there was a tiny amount of sunlight coming from the end of that drift. I would have had to do some digging but it’s quite possible I could have exited the mine from that location.

Gly you have produced another wonderful and adventurous video. This mine was cool especially going up the escape route. Your explanation of the geology is always pleasing to me and I am sure others. Keep up the awesome work my friend!

Enjoyed this one. Swear I could see sunlight at that dead end where you turned around. Looked like it was just all filled up where it came out? Great explore Gly!
Great video Gly. If you go to minute 45:23/24 and pause or step through to min 45:25 where you felt air and it was collapsed. If you look in the upper right of the frame you can see daylight. I suspect the escape rout was collapsed in from above.
Bob, you think someone was playing with you ?...About escape route...For me thats what it loos like....Bob you dident go in there alone did you?...That mine was big and not in too bad condition....Sure like the drone shots.....Thanks Bob.............

@33:33 have you ever considered a 360 camera? you can edit them and pick a viewpoint frame while editing later I think. might be interesting for some spots, especially with a selfie stick. (not saying for this application, just had a thought when you mentioned new gear )
24:35 - is this the date for the box of dynamite? D74AU15B - possibly meaning Aug 15, 1974? With 'D' meaning 'date' and 'B' meaning that it was made on line 'B'. I used to work in a factory & we would label our goods similarly.
Gly @ 24:36 the date code is on the label. looks like others have noticed it too as I scrolled down in the comments. I believe the B after Aug15 is the shift that manufactured the explosives. The box of nails looks to be a MRE box and I like the helmet cam, too bad it wasn’t in 360 so you can actually see what it is your pointing at. I would have liked to see the bottles but you didn’t show it with your cam set up. always looking forwards to another great episode Gly👍🏻😎
“Gly”: I agree, I think all of those dynamite boxes were from the early 70’s. I wasn’t happy with the performance of the new helmet cam after making this video so I’ve made some major modifications. With each mine I’m getting it dialed in better and better.

Well I'm trying to catch up going back wards seeing your videos. 👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
“Gly”: Yes, there was daylight up there but I didn’t notice it until I started editing. I regret not turning my lights off for a moment when I was there.
That was so awesome!! I enjoy listening to your voice, i find it very pleasent. All the hard work that went into that mine! Wow!! Any idea how much gold was removed? Thanks for the adventure, looking forward to the next!!😃😃👍👍🗽🇺🇸
easy for us to say but yeah I think I would have tried going past the black widow nest and dug my way out instead of having to go back down them ladders, it's like tempting fate twice, glad you got out safely Gly, but could definitely see daylight up ahead of you at that section even if it looked a little plugged with small rock..
“Gly”: I was so frustrated when I got back and started editing the footage. I guess my lights washed out the little bit of sunlight coming from that area and I just didn’t notice it. The next time I find myself in that situation I’m going to temporarily turn my light off.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces the final outcome was the same mate, you got out safely and that's the main thing, I have seen you dig your way into a mine before but not dug your way out yet so would have been another first for the channel.
I have to place this adventure in the category of... "It's o.k., I'm seeing this video so I know that he made it out" Ladders hanging by a wire going up into something "Mole People" would have dug out. I mean for crying out loud Gly.... Great episode!! Easy thumbs up.
Before the video even gets going I have to say every time your latest video comes on I drive my son nuts. I start humming just a loudly as I can your opening theme song..LOL

playing catch up on all your videos question the rails that go along the hill side in to the adit they look wider than normal was there a tram that pulled the carts in and out that you know of ?
“Gly”: It’s possible they used a electric or diesel powered locomotive to push the ore carts to the tram.
Absolutely amazing this is one of my favorites or close tie definitely watching again escape route was so cool put a little Led Zeppelin stair way to heaven in the back ground lol was checking out on Google earth pretty big area thanks for sharing good seeing ya an making my Saturday as always be safe 👍👍👍👍
Nice! Thanks gly
You definitely have more guts than me, I would have not gone up that one later, I've faced death enough already, don't need to tempt it in my old age 😅😅😅 great explore there Gly I don't think anyone has been there for a long time. Well I'm trying to catch up going back wards seeing your videos. 👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
Look at 43:45. After you move your light it looks like light is still shining at the top of that drift as well..
“Gly”: Yes, there was daylight up there but I didn’t notice it until I started editing. I regret not turning my lights off for a moment when I was there.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces well it sounds to me like a good excuse for you to be able to go back. Have a good night, God bless!
That was so awesome!! I enjoy listening to your voice, i find it very pleasent. All the hard work that went into that mine! Wow!! Any idea how much gold was removed? Thanks for the adventure, looking forward to the next!!😃😃👍👍🗽🇺🇸
“Gly”: Thank you! No, unfortunately the mine report wasn’t that detailed.
easy for us to say but yeah I think I would have tried going past the black widow nest and dug my way out instead of having to go back down them ladders, it's like tempting fate twice, glad you got out safely Gly, but could definitely see daylight up ahead of you at that section even if it looked a little plugged with small rock..
Gly those that escaped were never seen again glad you didn't cause this was epic!!!; )
Totally Awesome video
“Gly”: Thank you!
Was that a stick pf dynamite at 25:34 just to the right????
Great video. Cool mine. I think this was one of your best. Too bad the escape route didn’t pan out. ❤️
I am new to your channel but I enjoy watching you. I am not brave enough to enter a mine. Be safe
I have to place this adventure in the category of... "It's o.k., I'm seeing this video so I know that he made it out"
Ladders hanging by a wire going up into something "Mole People" would have dug out. I mean for crying out loud Gly....
Great episode!! Easy thumbs up.
I keep reassuring myself the same way. I know he got out because he uploaded this video.
Before the video even gets going I have to say every time your latest video comes on I drive my son nuts. I start humming just a loudly as I can your opening theme song..LOL
“Gly”: Better than a THX sound test! Lol
Thanks for the video
Nice intro. Nice mine a small one. Some escape tunnel, false sign making. Remove that sign or add "not a" to that sign.
Looks like the helmet cam was a success! You should attach a light so that when you are looking around the light follows.
