? And what age did you get into exploring abandoned mines and forgotten places and do you have any problems with being claustrophobic and you should always have a climbing rope when you go into places like that suppose the ladder of breaks and you can't climb back up always be extra safe

We, as the audience, can learn as we go through your videos and imagine the men that worked really hard to dig that mine. Man the drone really makes the intros great! Looking at the whole area from the air makes it really come to life. Fantastic work, Gly. Having another person with you opens up things as well. Your enthusiasm for the minerals is infectious! It's amazing at the condition of the ladders in these mines. I guess it's so dry in there that there's no rot. I' really glad you came back to this mine. It's so extensive and beautiful. I did not expect to see that deep winze down there! So cool that you got to the absolute bottom. Nice! When you got down to the bottom of the decline, I figured (like you may have!) okay, now we got some drifts off and that'll be it; then you went around that curve and saw the winze! Before you even made a sound, my mind was going "Oh my god! Look at that! Wow! It keeps going down!" One helluva mine, fantastic explore! Wish I could give a few dozen thumbs up! Thank you thank you thank you, Gly! 👍👍❤️👏 And every time I see one of these, I think of all the hard work that went into blasting, mucking out, and timbering these mines! Thousands of board feet of thick timbers that had to be hauled over the desert, up the hills, then hundreds of feet down and put in place! Truly mind-boggling!

These videos are a treat. Brent at Cerra Gordo makes them too. That's where I got started watching mine explorations. Imagine having a Ghost town. I am not a Desert dweller. I am comfortable when out of tree cover. A Forest dweller. So once again thanks for pictures of places I don't go. It expands my knowledge.
I admire how you go to great lengths to explain what really goes into mining, Your passion and ambition, is truly infectious . No other mining YOU-TUBE Vid does that.
My final comment on this episode; Gly, thank you for venturing out into the remotest areas of Nevada and taking the time to film the beautiful desert. Nevada has a special place in my heart and affects me like no other place I have visited in my life except for perhaps New Mexico, but that is a different type of desert. I have fond memories of my uncle who lived between Virginia City and Carson City. A kid just becoming a teen back in the early 1970s, I enjoyed my uncle’s stories of Nevada history and his knowledge of nearly everything Nevada, again, thank you.

Excellent show, but a raise whether for men, material or ore pass is not a decline. A decline in modern times is a large tunnel you can drive your pickup down.

Gly, this was worth the effort!! Great job!!!! The Standard grease can @19:30 show "cap grease" if you recall, the old bearings didn't have zerts rather caps that were filled and screwed down to squeeze grease in the bearing.

It was a thick waterproof grease designed to stay in the bearing and not flow out or liquify and be lost. It was later used in the cup style lubricators, because they needed similar properties. It's the same properties that were needed on rails and mine carts. Thick, stays where you put it, and waterproof. (some types of grease have a thickener "soap' that is water soluble and eventually dissolves, releasing the oil that's suspended in the carrier soap)

Gly, you just get better with each episode! At 25:25 you showed quartz, when rock hunting in the vicinity of Hawthorne found large samples of this type of rock with what appears to be gold veins around 1/8" thick. Keep up the good work!

Loved seeing the alluvial water ways underground and the way water had scoured the strata. How spectacular! I missed seeing this episode when it first came out, but in going back and re-enjoying your early episodes I ran into this one. Glad that I did as it was a very interesting mine.(don't know how you do it, going so deep on the ladders......but having to climb them to get back out!!) You sure have the stamina. Keep making good decisions to keep staying safe.
Nice video. Getting specimens, big ones. That and other decline shafts looks good and sturdy, That alluvial sediment layers are real cool, also love that quartz near by. Those are small chucks of Obsidian glass.
You have a lot of experience searching these old mines, I wonder how many people went down in some and never made it out? Some of these mines have a lot of building material 6x6's 8x8's their all notched not nailed in place so who ever started this wanted it to be safe for the next person exploring. don't you ever get tired of exploring? You must have a job or career in this mining. You have all of my pride I could have done this before starting constructions of houses in my area, you know how it goes you can't have it all unfortunately My body just can't handle all this venturing. Sir you are real good at explaining as you go through those mine's I'm 69 yrs old and I used to go inside the.mines down around nelson nevada . I also had four (4) clames all connected with each other. But had to give up on the mine cause I could not get anyone in nelson who had a core drilling rig and the mining company i was working for told me that it was to far away from the mine that thay wear working to hull the ore from nelson the morning star mine witch was 50 miles away. Keep doing your videos I certainly do watch them almost all of.
Where did you film this? I don't go into mines but I love to look at all the old structures. I'm getting ready to take a Nevada desert trip and this would definitely add some great stops.

Nice video. Getting specimens, big ones. That and other decline shafts looks good and sturdy, That alluvial sediment layers are real cool, also love that quartz near by. Those are small chucks of Obsidian glass.

You have a lot of experience searching these old mines, I wonder how many people went down in some and never made it out? Some of these mines have a lot of building material 6x6's 8x8's their all notched not nailed in place so who ever started this wanted it to be safe for the next person exploring. don't you ever get tired of exploring? You must have a job or career in this mining. You have all of my pride I could have done this before starting constructions of houses in my area, you know how it goes you can't have it all unfortunately My body just can't handle all this venturing. At 19:32 that's a tin of Standard Oil Zerolene Cup Grease.
The origin of the name is the bearing cup on the old wooden wheels on horse drawn wagons.
It was a thick waterproof grease designed to stay in the bearing and not flow out or liquify and be lost.
It was later used in the cup style lubricators, because they needed similar mechanical properties.
It's also the same properties that were needed on rails and mine carts. Thick, stays where you put it, and waterproof. (some types of grease use a type of thickener "soap' that is water soluble and eventually dissolves, releasing the oil that's suspended in the carrier soap)
Sir you are real good at explaining as you go through those mine's I'm 69 yrs old and I used to go inside the.mines down around nelson nevada .
I also had four (4) clames all connected with each other. But had to give up on the mine cause I could not get anyone in nelson who had a core drilling rig and the mining company i was working for told me that it was to far away from the mine that thay wear working to hull the ore from nelson the morning star mine witch was 50 miles away.

Where did you film this? I don't go into mines but I love to look at all the old structures. I'm getting ready to take a Nevada desert trip and this would definitely add some great stops.
