Y'all people can say all the things negative you want about these men! But they are "ARTIST". I was a really good bricklayer till I broke my back when I was 28. I could build some of the most beautiful fire places imaginable, but what I wouldn't give to work along side of these men for six months or so. Their the best I've ever seen! Be proud of your knowledge and skill men because what you know has been lost for centuries and centuries, a skill that is not only remarkable but magnificent. Great Artist and never mind you never used a rule. And if you people don't think an arch is strong? You check your physic's again! Why do you see all the Roman temples built with arches and still standing Mother Nature, an arch is probably this one single strongest structure in existence today and thousands of years past. For you people that don't no any better! What would happen if you had a square head??? Think about that equation...
I’m a tender going for my apprenticeship, we’re laying 12” block right now on top of footing to add on to a school. I can’t wait to lay block. I could do it tomorrow if I was asked. I’ve been tending 7 months, only thing stopping me from laying is we’re union & I need a card to lay with my guys
I spent a lot of time in Guanajuato, Mexico, in the 90s. Over the years I spent hours looking up at ceilings just like these wondering how the hell they were made. I just assumed they must have had supports to ensure they met perfectly in the middle and didn't collapse in the process. Mad respect for the craftsmen who have perfected this technique. Thank you for sharing!
th-cam.com/video/JF_LJGHcojQ/w-d-xo.html bryan gorski the trowel is a Bellota Philadelphia brick trowel .its a Spanish company from northern Spain. They also have manufacturing plants in South America including Mexico. th-cam.com/video/JF_LJGHcojQ/w-d-xo.html top class trowels
If that brick is soft enough to cut with a trowel then that brick is too weak. I wish they filmed how he mixed his mortar. Cudos to the bravery of the camera man. I do not want to be anywhere near those domes in an earthquake 😫.
That's what I was thinking. Knowing the shape he needs just by looking at the existing structure, and then using the trowel to shape it is pretty cool.
I've been a Mason for many years, and I think this guy is a good a bricklayer there is, all the haters should show us a video of their most excellent bricklaying, I'd love to compare.
I truly respect any Craftsmanship & dedication to the craft - using the medium of choice- here is brick to create something out of nothing. Often doing the more difficult task & what others say is impossible. I’ve hired Mexican brick masons on smaller remodeling projects before, & I was amazed at the speed & agility- they got bricks replaced on an Home extension/addition, and just as I had envisioned- they seamlessly incorporated the new bricks with the old ones removed to make room for the additional room, making it look like the new addition had been there for 40 years... All other American masons had tried to convince me how much easier it would be to cut the old brick off in a straight line, and scrap the old bricks, and completely put new wall up with all new bricks. Hence you’d have a straight line of old - next to new. The addition would be obvious. When I told the Mexicans what I wanted, they just said No problem, when you want it done sir? And their work was impeccable. Despite that the funny thing I recall was all others required me to get a mortar mixer on site for them, the Mexicans just told me they need 2 pieces of plywood in which to mix the mortar on, the younger man in the crew mix the mortar, staying one step of his masons.
yeeeee i am from mexico, i know it is mexico, the way they speak the music and the tipe of construction arriba mexico muy bie, muy buenos artesanos y constructores en mexico
The thing that impresses me the most is that this guys don't use string lines, theodolites , or lazers for grades and all sides appear to be uniform.great job

Very impressive. Every line he lays is an arch in itself, stable like any bridge. The arch is the leaning sideways on the previous one. Very stable construction I think.
OSHA would have a heart attack if they saw this. No way you'd be allowed to even try something like this without some kind of temporary supporting structure underneath.
It's not really sad. Where one trade is lost another is created. *Innovation.* The bricks are beautiful, but the material and skill are a result of the economic and environmental factors surrounding the construction. I'm not saying this to be an asshole. I'm saying it because I think that too many people revere dying (or totally irrelevant to their society) trades and techniques without considering the benefits of modern ones. There's a reason old techniques are replaced, and while I won't explain this simple near universal understanding because I respect your intelligence, I'll say that you can't have it both ways.
People spend their life improving a trade, things move forward, old things go away. This is life. Something is born, something dies. You know I'm making sense here.
Beautiful work!!! At first I was thinking the roof could cave in easily; but then the video showed you guys walking on it. Amazing!!!!! Thank you for sharing!
If I invite you over and pay for your visa, your stay, and a little vacation, along with pay you for work, will you build me a roof like this in St Petersburg Russia or Crimea? Amazing work!!! Extremely impressive and jaw dropping !!!
Ruano09 I visited Queretaro. It was wonderful! Loved the French cheese they sold there, it is truly a historic yet modern city. I hope to go back there someday 😊
glad to see people still build like this, in Canada everything is just concrete poured on metal or some kinda weird synthetic stuff that burns really easily.
This is totally Mexico lol. You don't see ingenuity like that here in buildings. He is shaping the bricks with a flippin trowel for god sakes. Amazing.
Watching him work was beautiful. This is the first time I have seen such art and skill. You should be very proud of your talent. I would think that only a few possess such skill and craftsmanship.
Building Control in Britain would be horrified as usual, they don't think other countries have equally proven methods of safety. They need to learn a thing or two from these master craftsmen.
That's because in most developed countries if those structures were built now without codes they would fall down due to cost cutting and cheap material. Codes were created to prevent this. Back then a bad builder ended up starving to death through not getting any more work or "other" methods.
Justin Clark Even China has building codes. They did have buildings constructed that didn't meet them and, shocking I know, they soon had problems and some fell down killing people.
Look again, notice that they have interlocked steel reinforced concrete beams above all 4 walls, so when this dome made of bricks set hard, it becomes as one single structure along with the 4 beams and since they are tied at each corner with steel reinforced bars, the whole structure becomes as one single entity, so any movements within the walls will not effect the roof dom. Clever design, strong, earth quake resisting for sure. The roof can only fall if the walls crumble first, which if they do then no matter what type of roof you have will also crumble down.
I worked in Guatemala for a year. I was amazed everyday at the little tricks those guys taught me. I learned more in that year despite the language barrier than I learned previous
An arch supports itself ONLY after each course of brick is complete. The reason the bricks are not falling before a course is complete is all in the mix. Nice rich mortar with some additives. The amount of water in the mix is important too. Also the type of clay bricks they are using will suck the water right out of the mortar extremely quickly, especially in hot sunny weather. So the mortar is bonding/drying almost immediately after a brick is set enough to the point where it will hold. The application is obviously important too. Set tap and go. Play with it too much and u can break the bond. The most impressive thing to me is the fact that they are basically free handing this whole job. Doesn't look like there's any lay-out or guides. As far as cutting the brick, it's actually not that difficult to break a clay brick with a trowel if u know where to strike it and which part of the trowel to strike with. The cut also doesn't have to be perfect as the mortar joint will give u some room for error. Def can't do that with a solid concrete brick though lol. Extremely impressive work here
Gary Hardin why not? it's an arch, quite strong, actually the kind of structure you want to be under during an earthquake. fragility of buildings has to do more with insufficient foundations.
You know! That method is probably ancient btw. When complete the ceiling is kinda self supporting its weight by focusing it in a single point in the center and if build correctly could outlast an earthquakes
I used to do the same thing with roofing and setting forms for concrete. Roofing I almost got 3 squar an hr. with hammer an nails. Then after work I went back home to Black Canyon City got drunk and fucked all the free woman in town, didn't matter if she was short, tall, skinny or fat. Thats why they made a light switch! ROTFLMAO
I just built my dream patio and i had to do a lot of block work with cinder blocks and also brick work when i build a wood fired pizza oven and this stuff is not easy work! I did post a video if anyone wants to look at it! I've been in the contracting business for years and the only thing i ever get out of masons is how much damage the body takes over the years! Hands down, the best masonry I have ever seen was by the hands of Mexicans. I once saw some little short guys tossing around cinder blocks like they weren't shit. Two days later, the entire structure was done.

There is a huge sense of pride happening here. Beautiful work! PAY THESE MEN!
A room that size would cost about $2500

not sure what's more impressive the quality of the work or the quality of that trowel
bryan gorski. Good work and a good trowel such as a W. ROSE TROWEL. Habits for the skilled masons.

Holy crap that guy isn't just a Craftsman, he's an artist. That's incredible. Wow!
I love creative mexican craftsmanship types like this🤓
The most amazing thing about this video is how he shapes the bricks as he goes along.
That's what I was thinking. Knowing the shape he needs just by looking at the existing structure, and then using the trowel to shape it is pretty cool.
Jakelol1980 exactly! amazing skill
Jakelol1980 what's more amazing is the man who taught this illegal alien how to do this work now doesn't have a job
goldsmithstudent they are not in the US in this video. or did your racism prevent you from reading, or even actually watching the video?
goldsmithstudent This guy didn't learn this just a few years ago.
Have to respect the craftmanship and knowledge that goes into that.
I've been a Mason for many years, and I think this guy is a good a bricklayer there is, all the haters should show us a video of their most excellent bricklaying, I'd love to compare.
I'm impressed! 16 years in the trade. The way they use their trowels is impressive.
This is a skill that is truly an art form. I really appreciate what he can do and would love to know what he knows!
Well i do know something about brickwork and not as much as you perhaps. What i do not know i can learn whatever the fuck i want.
+robert morin lol

Show me one good mason in the western world which cant do what this guy did here.
lol yep pf course your right with the first things but i bet you will have problems finding a guy that can do this

Maravilhoso o seu trabalho e incrível sua habilidade.
Beautiful work!!! At first I was thinking the roof could cave in easily; but then the video showed you guys walking on it. Amazing!!!!! Thank you for sharing!
Very impressive. Talent that comes with hard work and experience.
This never gets old.
This guy is a master of his craft. He someone should sponsor him in an artistic endeavor. 🤔
Or *them, rather.
There are literally millions of people with his and similar talents. Do you live under a rock?
That work is amazing. Catalan domes and it's all in the mud mix. Thanks for sharing.
absolutely brilliant ''what a crafts man, and he never used one measuring tool ''brilliant
That's a really nice quality feature in a home.
If I invite you over and pay for your visa, your stay, and a little vacation, along with pay you for work, will you build me a roof like this in St Petersburg Russia or Crimea? Amazing work!!! Extremely impressive and jaw dropping !!!
Just ask uncle putin to invade Mexico. Than you get workers like this for free. ;)
this is pure skill for us to watch , for him its a days work truly amazing
This is the part of Mexico where I'm from, Querétaro. Anyone interested in visiting Mexico, go to Querétaro, the place is beautiful and historic
Ruano09 I visited Queretaro. It was wonderful! Loved the French cheese they sold there, it is truly a historic yet modern city. I hope to go back there someday 😊

glad to see people still build like this, in Canada everything is just concrete poured on metal or some kinda weird synthetic stuff that burns really easily.
holy... such great skill.
Awesome to watch a gifted tradesman perform what looks to be magic. Like to know what type of mortar they are using cause it looks like crazy glue.
Only one tool is used for the entire process. So amazing! He can customize the bricks to fit just by sight.
Very cool !!!! NICE workmanship
freaking amazing, Mexican talent👍💪👊
much respect .. those guys work there asses off! and there work is quality.
This is totally Mexico lol. You don't see ingenuity like that here in buildings. He is shaping the bricks with a flippin trowel for god sakes. Amazing.
Tommy Ohlrich we shape bricks with a trowel in Holland too... (Definitely not Holland though :)
ever worked on site? ALL brickies do that
for sure. the Mexicans in florida do it too.
nah it's not a flipping trowel can't tell from here but I recommend Marshall town, good for cutting bricks
there are different trowels, all still trowels
Watching him work was beautiful. This is the first time I have seen such art and skill. You should be very proud of your talent. I would think that only a few possess such skill and craftsmanship.
"Plumb-lines? We don't need no stinking plumb lines."
THE KNOWLEGE ,SKIL AND SPEED. . . ABSOLUTEY AWEEE SOME MORE !!!!

Don't ya just hate it when people make things look so easy?
true craftsmanship beautiful work..

That really is a serious show of craftsmanship !
Beautifully done! I just would not want to be under it when an earthquake hits....
They do fine in earthquakes.
or eventually weakens and falls on someone
I think once it is complete the shape is quite strong, like a dome.
I bet he is way UNDER PAID... Give that man a raise
YES!!
Like a great roman builder
I wouldn't want to be in this during an earthquake. Beautiful as it is.
Gary Hardin why not? it's an arch, quite strong, actually the kind of structure you want to be under during an earthquake.
fragility of buildings has to do more with insufficient foundations.

Hahah.. this man is genius. i don't think its as easy as it look++
Excellent he should be proud as a novice brick layer this guy is the greatest.

Edwin Avelar i know what he means im hispanic, it gets on my nerves when people say "la raza" theres only one race the human race lmao
it looks v nice. amazed at how some of the bricks are laid side ways
That method is probably ancient btw.
When complete the ceiling is kinda self supporting its weight by focusing it in a single point in the center and if build correctly could outlast an earthquakes
YES!!!! You really know what you say
Having been a bricklayer watching this guy very impressive.
Yep, he is good for sure and fast too! The other guy does 1/2 a row and the other does the rest LMAO
I used to do the same thing with roofing and setting forms for concrete. Roofing I almost got 3 squar an hr. with hammer an nails. Ustalarin eline saglik super iscilik ben ilk defa gordum. Super
Very, very few masons here in the "west" would be able to do that - if any. Very impressive skills.
Uh, why not exactly? It's a style we don't use but take a look at old stone bridges etc, it's the same concept. These are all young dudes, I'm sure pretty much anyone could do what they're doing given a few weeks of practice with a teacher. They're just sticking bricks on bricks, it's not rocket science.
Lol yeah it’s really just outdated building. People don’t do it becuase it’s not cost effective sturdy or safe.
KW Awards u haven't been to Texas my friend. MANY skilled Hispanics
That's you ignorance commenting .that's apprentice boy work/ Sewer line waste water construction.
The "west?" Where do you think Mexico is?
25 years of guitar playing, I would trade for THIS skill. Beautiful!!
i've laid brick. that guy is a master. bet he's always busy.
That's amazing. He works like a Robot.
Thanks for the movie.
those are my uncles! Hola tio
no they are not!! they are MY uncles!!
Hands down, the best masonry I have ever seen was by the hands of Mexicans. I once saw some little short guys tossing around cinder blocks like they weren't shit. Two days later, the entire structure was done.
that would cost a fortune in the US
I don't think you could get a permit to build this at all in the US.
Nobody said it was cheap.
A como el metro para san luis potosi amigo gracias.
IT cost about 20 dolares a 2m when I had IT made in mexico
hey, you will never defy gravity. you need gravity to do this. beautifully executed by a true master of his craft. watching it is great for the soul.
Just imagine what this guy could get done with a few plank and some mud stands... Maybe even a tender?
Jared Kindall and if he didn't leave his stock In a pile lol..
RIGHT. haha.
armynet191 the bricks are thrown up from the ground and the guy on top catches from 2 or 3 ground men.
have you seen how their tenders work??? they toss an entire shovel and the mortar up two even three stories!!!!! god level skills!!!
Jay Radical like chicken tender??
Skilled tradesman, excellent work, looks lovely!
