    Damn i had no idea this place was in my back yard. Colorado geography is trippy as hell

    Great hike guys. When yall were on the way down and in good spirits I was like "wait till they have to go back up". I haven't gotten the chance to do this yet but had a good friend do it and she said she wanted to cry on the way back up lol. It's so beautiful down there at the bottom I know it's worth it

    Nice video, beautiful at the bottom. We are in our 60s and hike everywhere we can in the U.S. You'll be hiking at our age too, but probably not this one again, lol!

    Nice video! Thanks for sharing. My question is would you attempt this hike down and back up while holding a fishing rod?

    You two are hardcore! I’ll just take the road down to the bottom (when it’s open) 😆
    Nice rare video of an under appreciated Park 🤙🏼

    This is one I've wanted to do for a few years now. Last time I went there we didn't have time to hike down, but I'm gonna go back!

    did this in oct 2020, awesome hike, and the poison ivy turning red in the late fall was something else. Would love to go back and do some of the other wilderness routes to the bottom

    My buddy and I did this in June 2020 to do some fly fishing, but we camped next to the river for 3 nights. Great hike, but 70 pound bags made it quite difficult both down and up. We're planning another tip this year, but probably doing the north rim this time. The rangers said there was a lot more river access. Great video!

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats awesome! I cannot imagine hauling a 70 pound bag up this canyon. I wish we would have camped and I have heard the fishing is unreal. Thanks for watching!

      Coming up was extremely difficult, but going down was dangerous! The fishing is absolutely amazing! Well worth it!

    Planning to hike into the canyon with my little brother next week. When is the earliest you are allowed to get the wilderness permit? Can you get it the day before your hike?

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We had covid rules so things might have changed. We did get our permit the day before at the visitor center.

    I did this solo in October. Really wish they’d post a few markers as I also got off trail a few times.

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE

      Challenging but rewarding hike! From what the ranger told us while we were getting our permit, this is a primitive hike. The intent is to limit the amount of hikers to allow everyone the time to be alone in nature and to rely on your trail finding skills rather than following markers. Although we endured some extra exhaustion after getting off trail, it is all part of the experience on this particular trail. Happy hiking and thanks for watching!

    its weird how adding music and some good camera shots makes anything look better than it is. I live 20 mins from here. Been there so many times that the wow factor is gone.
    We just drive down to the bottom and walk the shore fishing and yes there is a road that goes to the river.

      It’s easy to look past what you grew up around and think it is boring… but I feel like I’m finally fully appreciating the Western Slope and I’m 25 ❤😂

    The view from the bottom is always so cool in another way. That's one of the things that has me going back to Zion in Utah. It takes that feeling of being tiny that you usually get at a giant canyon and enhances it.

    Can you tell me more how the permits work?

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE
      @SOSASATSUNRISE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is all from memory but I know you must obtain a permit at the south rim visitor center the day before the hike. I think they start registration at 3:30. 15 permits are given per day. They say everyone in your party must be present but there was someone who got permits for their party of 4 since there was only about 8 of us there.

    Do you need a permit for the Oak Flat Trail?

    • @SOSASATSUNRISE

      I think only the back country hikes require permits.

    Getting lost off trail...now you know why hikers put some cairns out there for you to see. I'm not sure why the Park Service would want you to knock down the cairns.

      Amber's shoes are Vivo barefoot. Both of us prefer a shoe that allows the foot to move and flex naturally. After a few weeks of slowly strengthening muscles to handle the lack of support, we have found this style to be our favorite. Thanks for watching!

    I would advise hiking boots, mid high with heavy tread, and stiff uppers. That helps engage all your leg muscles, instead of just feet, ankles and calves.
