    Great video. I don't want to spoil it with a silly comment, but thanks again for taking the (lots and lots of) time to film your thru-hike so that the rest of us could experience it with you vicariously. Spielberg, I know this is dated, but I wanted to thank you so much for the care in which you took making all of these videos. Your honestly is amazing. For the last couple months, I have been watching all of your videos in the morning as I have used various cardio gym equipment. I have been following other hikers vlogs and blogs and trail journals for years. Yours rates as one of the very best. I have hiked several week long adventures on the AT which happens around once a year since I live in Phoenix. I share the dream of many to complete a thru to hike, but it will have to wait until the class of 2025 when I retire. I hope one day you will be watching my Vlog as I touch that sign on Katahdin. So many of you who I have watched have taught me physical and mental aspects of the trail. I literally had tears watching you touch that sign, but honestly, it happens every time I see someone I have followed on videos or books I have read summit Katahdin. You seem like a wonderful human being and I hope you are doing well. Thank you for sharing your journey-Turk

    • @craig.m.spielberg
      @craig.m.spielberg  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much, Turk! It really means a lot to hear that, and to know that people are still watching and finding value in the videos. You're the first I've heard that watched them while on cardio machines -- I'm going to have to try that! I hear what you mean about seeing people touch that sign on Katahdin -- I always did and still get emotional when I see anyone on that final assent to the sign. The whole journey is the most important and transformational one in my life, and I wish that for you! 2025 will be here before you know it...and, metaphorically, you're already on the trail and your thru hike. In retrospect, I learned that the years leading up to my thru hike of research, planning, reading, gear testing and practice hiking were some of the best parts of the entire journey -- enjoy this time! And please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or anything that you think I can help with -- and definitely let me know if you Vlog your hike so I can support you on your way to Katahdin. All the best for a wonderful Christmas!

    Craig, it's been awesome watching the videos of your AT hike. I feel like I was hiking along with you the whole way! Thanks for sharing your experience with us.When I was finishing my Thru-hike several years ago I wrote a poem while I was sitting on the picnic table next to the ranger's station with the Mt. Katahdin reflecting off of Daicey Pond. I wrote this poem. Now that you have finished the AT...I'm sure you can relate:
    REFLECTIONS AT DAICEY POND It started in the early spring on Georgia’s Springer mount.How many steps I’ve taken since, I couldn’t even count. We climbed great mountains, forded streams, and hiked the deepest notch.We all got blisters on our feet, and rashes in our crotch. We saw the deer, the moose and bear, the stars and yellow moon.We also heard the nighttime song of whippoorwill and loon. The trail was often difficult, with rocks and roots and logs.Sometimes we didn’t wash for weeks, we often smelled like dogs. I thought of all the city folk, so cozy in their house,while we were fighting hungry bugs and the pesky shelter mouse. I knew it would be difficult, a test of mice and men.They said the odds of finishing were only 1 in 10. We persevered, the miles flew by, and summer turned to fall.I reminisce the trail I’ll miss and things I can recall. The things that I remember most are not the rocks and trees, but all the friendships on the trail and all those memories. So here I sit at Daicey pond, reflecting on the year.I’ll hold on to those memories, of how I’ve gotten here. T-RexAlso, if you get a chance you can read my journal with pictures. Not as exciting and entertaining as your videos, but there are a few humorous parts you'll enjoy:drive.google.com/file/d/0B6aSs2MHXzeQeTgwcjJZTkg2RVU/view?ts=56dc6f51

      Craig, Cheryl posted another comment on Day 172, 173, and 174. She mentioned there were so many things you thought you would figure out on the trail and they remained unanswered.
      It would appear you did indeed figure many things out as you traversed the trail. Not only did you answer the tactical questions of how to survive (and indeed thrive) on the trail, you experienced first hand trail magic and you were reminded of the basic goodness that is inborn within each of us.
      Thank you for the teaching us how to prepare for the physical, the mental and the spiritual challenges you encountered.

    Great job Craig. You've truly earned and lived up to your trail name. That's the best summit and summation vlog that I've seen over the past several years while preparing for my own thru hike. I think all of us who followed your journey thru celebrated and cried with you as you touched the final sign. I love all the remembrances, the experiences shared, and your spiritual approach to the trail and how it and the people along the way have taught you many a great lesson that will last a lifetime. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us all!!!

    Craig, Congratulations on your hike. As a section hiker, who has completed 1840 miles to date, I was especially touched by your videos. I have followed many hikers over the years. Your videos have reminded me of the "feel" of the trail. The "quietness" of the trail. Thank you.

    Watching all your 175 day-footage was an amazing and inspirational experience for me. A true gift that you left for others to stumble upon. In a way akin to trail magic: an unexpected and wonderful piece of kindness that I received from you on my own trail of life. I shall cherrish having watched your films for a very long time and I am certain that from time to time I shall return to watching at least some of them. You have moved me in a multitude of different ways. I have made several resolutions in respect of my own during the course of watching. I shall hike more during my everyday life, I shall do a small thru-hike with my children this summer and I shall hike the Camino in 2019. But even more important are some of the thoughts you shared. Kindness, living now and taking risks are only some of the themes that stuck with me. Whilst one knows about these things it is so valuable to have them reinforced in such a beautiful and touching way! I am extremely grateful for every minute of footage that you shared. Thank you so much!

    I'm Juan, watching you from Spain. I did Camino de Santiago twice back in 2013 & 2014, and I love your vídeos. I think you're a ver y especial person, and I can really connect with your way of thinking and living in a very easy way. You're vídeos make me really happy, and watching them I can relieve tons of beautiful things that I have unforgotten. Sadly, now I have a sarcoma in both legs, and I can't walk, but I am fighting every day and trying to cure myself with all of my heart energy. Every day I'm dreaming with complete the entire THRU hike, and watching these vídeos I have a little hope that makes me smile. Thank you for all, Craig, en España tienes una persona que te sigue y te aprecia, y a la que cada día ayudas a soñar y a luchar contra su enfermedad. Gracias.

      Thank you so much, Juan! Your message meant a lot to me -- I really appreciate it. I am with you in spirit as you fight to cure yourself and live your dream of completing a thru hike. I hiked the Camino in 2013 & 2015, so maybe we met! I am sure that your memories of your Camino are strong and with you all the time. I know that my memories of the Camino bring me comfort and joy, especially during difficult times (I had a lot of memories of the Camino while hiking the AT). I hope that your memories of your pilgrimage bring you the same comfort and joy. You have made me very happy with your kind words and with sharing your story with me. Thank you, my friend. I look forward to the day that you are well and I can bring your trail magic on your thru hike.

    Only appropriate that "Spielberg" would conclude with a "tear jerker". Along the trip your cinematography, narration and editing were superior. The finale, however, captured more AT experience in 5 minutes than National Geographic did in 1 hour. Awesome Job and Congratulations! It would be awesome if you did one more vid??? Would love to see how you edited your video clips on the phone for you tube. I just completed your series. The concluding segment to your trail adventure was absolutely great. I think it's the best one that I've seen. You brought tears to my eyes as you completed your summit of Katahdin by mouthing, "thank you" and then reaching out to touch the Katahdin sign.
    I'd like to say that you are an inspiration to me, but that would require me to get equipped and get out on the trail. Unfortunately, I think at age 72, I'm too old to hit the trail. If I did go, that would be my trail name - "Too Old." The only "long" distance walking I do is pushing my golf cart four times a week up a few modest inclines between looking for lost balls in the rough. So, I just remain absolutely impressed with your will to "keep walking."
    Thanks so much for the beautiful views in and above the forest. Your introspective views were were also wonderful. Good luck and stay healthy on your future hiking.

It won't stop me from doing it when the time is right but I've got to reconcile that concern. You can see the emotion in Craig when he says "I can see it". The excitement of achievement can be tempered by the sorrow of...it's over.
