In my opinioni both guitarists are legendary. Both have their own, unique style. And there's no denying Mick has written countless, classic guitar riffs and solos that make up the Crue sound and feel. Mick is a great rock guitarist who's work will live on to inspire future rock guitar players. John 5 is a wizard on the guitar, a true virtuoso. And a very humble player who is doing a great job playing Mick's songs. He's not getting flashy or trying to make them his own. He is playing them as true as he can to how they were composed by Mick. At least from what I see in this video. You gotta respect that. I feel lucky to have seen them both play several times. Thanks for posting this video. Respect and props to both of these great musicians.
I remember coming across a video of John 5 playing a Kiss song true to the original, yet better than Kiss could ever play it. He's really one of the most gifted guitarists around because beyond his technical wizardry he has a feel in his playing that many of the technical guys seem to have lost as the mastered the instrument.
I think John did the solo respectfully. He didn’t try to make it flashy, so I can respect that. However, true talent is not just play, but in one’s ability to compose. With that, Mick will always be the one true guitarist of Motley Crue. Also, in these videos you are comparing a 70 yr old with a spine disease to a younger guitarist. That has to be taken into consideration also😊

John knows and understands the impact these songs have had on people so being not only a true musician but a fan he pays respect to the song and the fans
Mr. 5 showing Mick major respect through his playing and in interviews since this all blew up. Class act all the way. Gotta hand it to John 5 for filling in and playing Micks part so well and accurate without embellishing or going off to do his own solo. Can tell he has nothing but respect for Mick. Great job
@ferrj710 I think Zakk has done amazingly well playing in Pantera and honestly I don't think anyone else would have or should have played instead of him.due to.their history and friendship

@ferrj710 I can only wish to see them when they roll through but everything I've seen they sound great and Zakk is filling the spot amazingly. He's not doin his 5 kin pinch harmonic solos, he's sticking pretty close to the original and he's happy doin it. Can't ask for much else
2 great players, playing one man's solo. J5 is brilliant, no doubt. But the fact that you can listen to this song (and many other Crue tracks) and sing this solo, shows just how brilliant Mick is. The most under rated guitarist in hard rock.
I still can't believe that he is my uncle!!! Even though I m a failure in my family, being on one and messed up all these years,,,it might not mean much coming from me but I m proud of you that you made it so big.....You are definitely 'THE MAN'
John is playing the solo as written on the record. Mick is allowed to ad lib and add parts since he wrote it. Also, Mick is concentrating as this is a tough part for him. John could play this while eating breakfast. I am sure if they allowed John to cut loose he would ad his own style to the solo. In respect to Mick, he plays it as written!
"Also, Mick is concentrating as this is a tough part for him." Ridiculous statement. The man is in his 70's with a crippling spinal disease that causes him to be in constant pain.
Two things. First John can play anything with his eyes close and that's skill. Secondly his performances are boring as hell...... Being able to play anything doesn't make make the person a good performer, just a good session player.
Oh my god, you live with a brain that small? "Also, Mick is concentrating as this is a tough part for him." I have heard dumber things, but not many. Since you clearly know nothing about music, please keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot, because opening your mouth removed all doubt. John 5 is a great guitarist, and I am super happy they tapped him to replace Mick. He is VERY respectful of the music for a reason. Mick is in constant pain, and 70. THAT is hard. playing a song he wrote and has played thousands of times isn't hard.
I absolutely love the fact that one of the most amazing guitarist on the planet earth show some respect to Mars. Just awesome. Congratulations John, you are a true guitar hero.
Mick's picking on the frets gives his solos a very unique sound. I really dig his style. John 5 played it respectfully but, Mick wrote that amazing solo and no one else will ever come close to touching his talent because of that.
John 5 understands that it's easier to follow than lead and accepts his role in Motley Crue as such. I'm assuming that he got the gig because of it. Can you imagine all of the shredders, of which John 5 is one of the best, coming in to audition and stomping all over Mick's leads thinking, "I can improve upon Mick's stuff!". I can hear it now, "NEXT, don't call us, we'll call you!!" LoL
Seen Mick play that song live three times... imho The man's a legend. Stand in the back and melt your face off, spine disease and all. Glad John just respects the solo and plays it up straight. :)
John is such an impressive player..he REVERES players like Mick, Eddie and so many others.. he plays it as close as another player who didn't write it could... many props to John 5 for playing it with no additions or subtractions.. but Mick is, was and will forever be the soul of the Crue... he literally gave his blood, sweat, tears, life and health for Motley.. and he's still a great player!..
So much love for both guitarist. Glad that Johnny 5 kept the song as Mick wrote the solo. Mick Mars was so unique and he maintained a style that I feel was under- rated for his skills. He was a great song writer. He was the foundation for the sound of Motley Crue. Love and respect to both of them.
Mick's guitar playing is what gives Motley it's sound. You can tell its Motley Crue just by the guitar in the songs, Mick built their unique sound. John is a great guitarist thoough.
Mick Mars will always be one Of my favorite guitarists but his physical state has really taken the toll he used to tell us about but we didn’t listen. He played on for so many years through so much pain. Thank you John 5 for what you have done here keeping it true to the original.
Both Mick & John banged it out of the park. I saw a John 5 interview where he says that when playing someone else's music he'll try to play it as closely as it sounded on the record
Both players are great and The Pain that Mick deals with while he is playing shows he has the grit to STILL do a wonderful job ! and I agree with another person who posted John is a Guitar Wizard and a Humble guy, playing the songs true and not trying to make them his own ,a very humble guy. In my opinion Motley should have quit years ago, Vince's voice has seen better days.
I have the same disease that Mic has and if his pain is like mine it's great he can play. Yesterday my hands and wrist hurt so bad and I could barely get up and move around. Today no pain at all.
I do feel more when I watch mick, but Im not sure if thats cuz its funkier or if its because it looks tough for him as an old man. Still, they both rip.
John 5 is an amazing musician and from what I've read, seen and heard from him he seems to be a class act of a human being. You have to love the respect he is showing Mick.
The first time I seen the Crue was with OZZY at the bark at the moon tour! and they were with a German band called ACCEPT. (a German heavy metal band) and then the Theatre of pain tour, both concerts were in Kentucky!

Good to see John 5 staying true to Mick's work. With his level of ability he could easily stand up and play some mind blowing flashy stuff, but he's showing respect to Mick. Hats off to John 5.
John knows and understands the impact these songs have had on people so being not only a true musician but a fan he pays respect to the song and the fans
Did he tell you that?
Mr. 5 showing Mick major respect through his playing and in interviews since this all blew up. Class act all the way. The other 3 don’t deserve a player not only just someone the laid back and cool but a monster guitarist. Mick has carried the band 90% of its life and those three chuckleheads will finish their careers being carried by another smoking player. Too band the don’t see or appreciate that fact. Just three punks in the streets, oh I’m sorry, I’m the limousines…
I will give John 5 credit as a premier guitarist, but Mick is the guitarist
that made crew what it is!
You can't replace Mick! He is the heart and SOUL of the band, many can imitate but none will ever be.
Mick didn’t get replaced though, he retired
@@wazda6488 umm clearly Nikki fired him.
Dumb comment of the week.....
Last I heard Mick in an interview he clearly didn't have any hard feelings. Maybe he really did retire. No harm in that though
@@berlyningle1820 yup
Gotta hand it to John 5 for filling in and playing Micks part so well and accurate without embellishing or going off to do his own solo. Can tell he has nothing but respect for Mick. Great job
Agreed, I just wish I felt the same way about Zakk and Pantera.
@ferrj710 I think Zakk has done amazingly well playing in Pantera and honestly I don't think anyone else would have or should have played instead of him.due to.their history and friendship
@@peterharder279 as true as that is, and as much as I understand that, I don't feel like he's handling it the same way that you described John 5 handling his role with the Crue. Over-embellished, and not faithful to the original... That's my only complaints.
@ferrj710 I can only wish to see them when they roll through but everything I've seen they sound great and Zakk is filling the spot amazingly. He's not doin his 5 kin pinch harmonic solos, he's sticking pretty close to the original and he's happy doin it. Can't ask for much else
J5 isn't filling in. He's replaced a metal vet who was rooted out in order to please a non bass playing drama queen.
2 great players, playing one man's solo. J5 is brilliant, no doubt. But the fact that you can listen to this song (and many other Crue tracks) and sing this solo, shows just how brilliant Mick is. The most under rated guitarist in hard rock.
I like them both, Mick rocking at 70!!
Nothing on Mick but John could play these solos in his sleep.
@@nassermokhtar6851
gig dab hay dab
Mick is great- but he did not write this.
@@herbtube7824 I am referring to his guitar solo🎸 I'm sure he did.
@@SixStringSteveDelivers i’m pretty sure nikki wrote it
@@herbtube7824 i’m pretty sure nikki wrote the majority of micks things
No body could beat the best and that'd be ol Mick Mars!
Mick Mars....for ever!!!!! Ever!!!!!!
Seen Mick play that song live three times... imho The man's a legend. Stand in the back and melt your face off, spine disease and all. Glad John just respects the solo and plays it up straight. :)
Both Mick and John are awesome players.
Mick Mars is a legend original member of the crue can’t compare the 2 of them both brilliant
One of my all time favorite guitar solos. Brilliant
Grew up with Mick and Motley
Mick's impeccable style is what feelings sound like.
My all-time favourite guitar solo, and, to be fair, John 5 played it beautifully. Mick, and John, rock ! Thank you for this brilliant post.
I love when a guitarist stays true to the original- never the hey look at me- just respect for the song. Awesome
Mick all day every day!🤘
So much love for both guitarist. Glad that Johnny 5 kept the song as Mick wrote the solo. Mick Mars was so unique and he maintained a style that I feel was under- rated for his skills. He was a great song writer. He was the foundation for the sound of Motley Crue. Love and respect to both of them.
Liked them both, but Mick will always be my favorite.
Mick's guitar playing is what gives Motley it's sound. You can tell its Motley Crue just by the guitar in the songs, Mick built their unique sound. John is a great guitarist thoough.
Ive seen the Crue 3 times and hands down im gonna say Mick Mars. Way way underrated
Both amazing innovative guitarists
Mick Mars will always be one
Of my favorite guitarists but his physical state has really taken the toll he used to tell us about but we didn’t listen. He played on for so many years through so much pain. Thank you John 5 for what you have done here keeping it true to the original.
Both Mick & John banged it out of the park. I saw a John 5 interview where he says that when playing someone else's music he'll try to play it as closely as it sounded on the record
Mick is the master and always will be! John is awesome and talented respect them both and enjoy hearing them play... gotta give them both 👍
Both players are great and The Pain that Mick deals with while he is playing shows he has the grit to STILL do a wonderful job ! and I agree with another person who posted John is a Guitar Wizard and a Humble guy, playing the songs true and not trying to make them his own ,a very humble guy. In my opinion Motley should have quit years ago, Vince's voice has seen better days.
Micks pain was primarily caused by sharing a stage , and having to listen to Vince😖……I thought this was a SNL Debbie downer parody !
I have the same disease that Mic has and if his pain is like mine it's great he can play. Yesterday my hands and wrist hurt so bad and I could barely get up and move around. Today no pain at all.
Both of them are amazing! I love them both! ❤
Siempre la primera mirada es la que vale . Con quien vimos y escuchamos estos riffs . Con Mick ambos son geniales
Both were on the money....! Love you Mick.
Mick and Isabella are magical thank you for all the years Mr. Mars
Thank you John 5 for respecting Mick Mars it shows in how you play his solo on this song
There's NO COMPARISON here as far as I'm concerned- My Man Mick Mars, ALL THE WAY!
Mick all the way! Brings soul to it. I don’t know how but he does to my senses.
I love that John kept the Mick lead in place. He showed total props to Mick, and that lead is iconic. Sweet.
Mick Mars all the way
I do feel more when I watch mick, but Im not sure if thats cuz its funkier or if its because it looks tough for him as an old man. Still, they both rip.
@@TheUtoobs your right.
John 5 is an amazing musician and from what I've read, seen and heard from him he seems to be a class act of a human being. You have to love the respect he is showing Mick.
Two really great talents with two different great styles.
The first time I seen the Crue was with OZZY at the bark at the moon tour! and they were with a German band called ACCEPT. (a German heavy metal band) and then the Theatre of pain tour, both concerts were in Kentucky!
Both great, and NOT taking anything away from John 5, but I can just feel the heart, soul, and emotion in Mick's playing.
yes! john hits the notes but in a grenic way. very bland. compared to mick
@@fredjones8607 What's hilarious is if the uploader swapped the audio for both performances, you'd be saying the same thing, lmao. Yeah, yeah, I know... save it.
@@ev25zv i can tell micks playing blindfolded compared to 5
@@fredjones8607 You should be able to - the intonation is shit, the intonation on the bends is shit, the vibrato is fast, thin, and shitty, tone is shit, and it's sloppy. But yeah, that's not what you're hearing because your stone ears can't hear it.
I like telecasters but John 5's is set up for faster playing, while Mick's strat is set up for amazing tone and grit.
The difference between technical proficiency and playing with feel. Mick has been playing this song for years and he plays with feeling. Great to see Mick up close, he is an under-rated player for sure. And it is my opinion, Mick is a large reason for Motley's success.
The ending part of the solo with the whammy bar of Mick Marks sounds amazing
Sick upload john is a legend i was a danzig fan since i was 13 got aholda Lucifuge and been a fan ever since
I can see the chords n i think i could nail this thanx john wish u the best
Mick is God and The Soul of Crue !!!!!
Mick is 5's childhood guitar hero. No competition more of a tribute.
Sorry, but John 5’s hero isn’t Mick Mara. John was a better player by the late 80’s than Mick ever was. I’m sure he respects him, but John 5’s guitar influence/heroes run deep & wide & are far more impactful & respected than Mick Mars. Mars was solid for the Crue’s 4 chord hair metal/blues/glam but he’s a fairly limited player overall.
@@acason4 sorry but in our are group Mick Marz is viewed as a bad ass like an Ace Farlay like image, yeah Marz is no virtuoso, but you would have to have been there in the 80's to understand what I'm even talking about. Mick inspired many kids to learn guitar.
@@jayspears7245
I stated facts so no reason to be sorry.
@@acason4 How old are you. Like I said you have to had been there to understand what I'm even talking about. For instance, in a recent interview Carmine Appice called Mick a pretty good player. Thats pretty high praise from a guy like Carmine. Are you a player?
@@jayspears7245
Age is a non-sequitur: I understand the facts hurt your feelings, but that’s just too bad.
Both players are fantastic.... different but great.
No one can do Mick Mars better than Mick Mars
Still love mick... I love john5 as well but mick is sick and I mean that in his guitar playing.
Mick is awesome. I was expecting John to embellish the solo, but he didn't. Much respect for that.
John is fantastic, period. Passing the torch as they say. Thank you Mick for all that you brought, and our memories. Thank you John for bringing yourself to the role. Ultimately, we all win.
Both do a fine job. John played it with respect to the original and a feel of his own. Yeah, the man can totally shred any time he wants to, but this is not what the song called for and he honored Mick's solo beautifully. He's a solid player.
Absolutely one of their best solos hands down.
Two great guitarists. Mick Mars is the reason Motley Crue became one of rhe greatest bands in rock history…
John, five to the killer job, but Mick wrote it. I’m really glad I got to see Mick play Live a few times before he retired.
