I hate the way the developers feel as though they need make classic games into RPGs and add unnecessary loot boxes and crafting. Should of stuck the script and gave us an experience like the new Spider-Man Games. No extra bs; just a great story and awesome gameplay.
You have to complete 10 Knighthood challenges PER character? Just to unlock the glide abilities? What were Warner smoking when they thought of this?! Such a shame.
These challenges are super easy to complete, the grappling and bat cycle are good anyways so you never feel like you’re getting around slowly or feel like you need your glide ability because you unlock them pretty fast.

It's like AAA devs feel their games aren't complete unless they inject rpg elements into them, wether they fit the game or not. Street Fighter 6 now has an open world, single player rpg campaign despite being an effing fighting game.

Don't group origins with the arkham trilogy. That should have been your first clue as to the quality of this game. WB are nowhere near rock steady, origins was a decent game but solid at best. This game was always going to be similar
I honestly had a bad feeling about this game every since we got that night wing and red hood gameplay. This game honestly looks like a high budget mobile game compared to Arkham knight. And I know they are both different games but it’s embarrassing that a game that came out in 2015 looks better than a game from 2022 with better hardware.
@@adale2771 it has Arkham boots to fill and so far it doesn't do it for me. It also doesnt differentiate itself enough to be considered something else. Gameploy loop is too similar and the multi-player doesn't matter if the game isn't solid at the core.

My god the bat mobile is like a character of it's own and used so well in that game. It makes you wonder what on earth they were smoking to come up with this nonsense and dare to say it's Arkham universe lol. On PC you could bring your PC to it's knees back in the day with the burnout smoke effects by gunning the car while the break was on lol . Awesome stuff. Plus the animation of how he jumped into the vehicle and this was 7 years ago lol
The 30 fps and gameplay killed it when it said online features I knew combat wasn’t going to be sluggish at times I probably will pick it up wen it on sale but not for $70

Seriously? 4? I bought the game yesterday even after seeing ign’s 5 and this review, and I couldn’t put it down. It’s not perfect, but it’s tons of fun and definitely deserves more love than it’s getting from some sites. I’d recommend anyone that was excited about it to take its flaws into account and still give it a try for themselves.

Playing it through now, I'd give it around a 6 probably but I can see a 5 or a 4. For anyone that has played the Arkham Trilogy (plus their own game, Origins) it pales compared to those, especially to Arkham Knight on a technical level was just much better designed. Spider-Man games are better and even the Mordor games use the same combat system which are way more fun.
Just play the Arkham Games. Although GK is not an Arkham game you can definitely compare these games because Rocksteady created such wonderful masterpieces. From your comment I can see that you did not play those games and GK is your first Batman game.

However, problem is the Harley movement is too generic and not special enough to differentiate with other enemies during battle, even compared to the very first Arkham game Harley Quinn. And the cutscenes is not motivated the gameplay. There is no special sense of reason or urgency. Take GOW game for examlple, there is strong differentiation and movivation on the boss combat compared with normal enemies. Especially for very iconic bosses
Played 2 hours last night, enjoyed it very much, some stuttering in fps drops, but nothing game breaking. A few patches will have it in good shape. Story is cool so far, customization not quite as in depth as I would like. Looking forward to the rest of it this weekend

I mean talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. You already have arguably the best combat formula ever seen in a video game, so great so that it's been copied by other franchises (with lucrative results), and you opt to significantly tweak the formula? Why?
I had no hopes for this game lol. When did it ever look good aside from the very first E3 reveal which had a busy city with destructible stuff going off everywhere. None of which has made the final game lol . There isn't even a variation other than skins in vehicles no matter who you play as.
They had the base gameplay right there with the Arkham series. Both this and Arkham are WB properties, I don't see how they just couldn't take the Arkham games as template for the gameplay. No, they just had to make it so different even though 99% of people would've preferred, at least, some form of Arkham's freeflow combat. Like LazerzZ said, we had it great before, we shouldn't settle for worse. It being a different game series made by a different developer shouldn't matter.
Not to mention they had already done it perfectly with Nemesis system for Mordor . Why didn't they put the Nemesis system in this seeing they patented it?

Aaaand that's how a franchise dies, we probably won't get another batman universe game in the next decade or two, this game is going to commercially fail hard because NOBODY is saying this game is good all the reviews are tanking and WB wouldn't risk making another one after this besides Suicide squad because that one is already about to release. Rocksteady won't miss. The gameplay and dialouge we saw were incredible. And it looks visually great too. Can't wait. Notice also how they are taking time with the release and didn't rush it out in 2022 like this game.
gamespot gave ascent a 6 , rpgs are a fanstastic form of video game as are narrative based games , the dismal inability to make that distinction and the repeated attempts to compare this game to the arkham series just shows how broken mainstream game journalism is
The writing was on the wall for months. Limited gameplay reveals, unimpressive when stuff was shown, tepid excitement from almost every reviewer/publication previewing it, etc. all wb montreal had to do was give us another Arkham game. I guess we expected too much of them.
The amount of work we freelancers had to do for the development team at the last minute should tell you something about the game. I don't even think they were supposed to hire freelancers. I serisouly think the individual artists just couldn't be bothered with half the work.

I’ll wait tell it’s $20 or on game pass . I love the “bat family “ but it should have included Batman and been the bat family vs the court of owls with new “boss” villains and storylines added every 3-4 months . My guess is that this game was gonna be “the avengers “ but when that flopped WB tried to switch it up but it would have broken the game so this is what we are left with .
No 60fps mode in a modern game is a game killer by itself. If you add the other negative points to this then this game is in trouble. It happened to saints row reboot too. Greed over quality.
I am loving this game BTW. I just discovered you can randomly join people in COOP, and most people dont know you have to turn it off in the settings, so you get these nice comic book moments where a player is stopping a crime in the city, and another hero (my character) jumps in to even the odds. And the other players are just stunned because someone has joined their game. The tides are turning, game was number 2 in UK sales this week.
I just know I’m fed up with superheroes after the last 2 decades… and that feeling is finally starting to bleed into gaming. Think I’ll skip this one, and if everyone tells me I’m missing out, well this game’s not going anywhere

dang, he went IN during that last minute. The loot and crafting system does seem out of place. A system like that is absolutely NOT a necessity for a good game, but it's seems like some people think it is.
Everyone seems to think quantity over quality. Quests that have no real consequence are not that fun to play. And they can very quickly become repetitive. Games are telling a story, and so should the missions within them.
New this game would be botched by the delays. Also Origins wasn't the best Arkham game either! Why could they have not just stuck to the same formula as City/Knight along with creating an awesome campaign with these characters
I've enjoyed playing in the overall, mostly because of the setting and characters carrying the experience (both elements are very well done) but it's hard to disagree with the criticisms and final summary here.

Ign have completed failed to give this game a proper review. I spent 15 hours playing this game with a friend so far and it’s honestly a blast. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THAT THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE OPINION OF ONE MAN who does not share that same likes and dislikes as you do, set your expectations for Gotham Knights correctly. It’s going to be updated it’s going to be improved, if cyberpunk managed to turn around a difficult release this game can too.
Selectable characters: Batgirl, Robin, Robin and Robin. I'm a bit disappointed there aren't more Batgirls. Or Bat family members who aren't Batgirl or Robin.
So it's like completing all the main and side missions in Spiderman ps4 and then trying to 100% then game from that point. Honestly when this game goes on sale I'll probably still buy it just because it's something to sink time into not to mention there's been a lack of some good batman content.

From all reports this was once a moba and converted into a single/co-op game. The upgrade system is still from a moba that just doesn't suit the game.

WB saw Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers and thought: We want some of that failure.

When I watching the Harley boss fight demo video, I feels there is problem in the combat systems. But I don't expect the problem this far.

It really is a good review. Really got into why turning Batman into a looter-brawler didn't work.

The writing was on the wall for months. Limited gameplay reveals, unimpressive when stuff was shown, tepid excitement from almost every reviewer/publication previewing it, etc. all wb montreal had to do was give us another Arkham game. I guess we expected too much of them.
The amount of work we freelancers had to do for the development team at the last minute should tell you something about the game.
I don't even think they were supposed to hire freelancers. I serisouly think the individual artists just couldn't be bothered with half the work.

WB Montreal are incompetent and need to be dropped as a developer for superhero games. Waste of 7 years. Another developer could have made 1 or even 2 solid Batman video games in that time frame
Exactly, WB Montreal clearly can’t make a good video game without rocksteadys work. Even origins had many problems especially performance and the open world was just dull especially that dumb bridge that u have to cross

I’ll wait tell it’s $20 or on game pass . I love the “bat family “ but it should have included Batman and been the bat family vs the court of owls with new “boss” villains and storylines added every 3-4 months . My guess is that this game was gonna be “the avengers “ but when that flopped WB tried to switch it up but it would have broken the game so this is what we are left with .
No 60fps mode in a modern game is a game killer by itself. If you add the other negative points to this then this game is in trouble. It happened to saints row reboot too. Greed over quality.

I am loving this game BTW. I just discovered you can randomly join people in COOP, and most people dont know you have to turn it off in the settings, so you get these nice comic book moments where a player is stopping a crime in the city, and another hero (my character) jumps in to even the odds. And the other players are just stunned because someone has joined their game. The tides are turning, game was number 2 in UK sales this week.

In my opinion 3 very good Arkham games. Origins, in my opinion, was ok. The Joker reveal ruined the whole game for me. Should have kept Black Mask as the true villain.

this game is amazing stop comparing it to arkham and stop watching youtube and try it yourself , i hated it but then i tried it and besides the bugs i fixed i loved everything else except for the cape gliding which doesn't do much , however the combat is solid , i been playing for 3 days straight and haven't gotten bored yet

dang, he went IN during that last minute. The loot and crafting system does seem out of place. A system like that is absolutely NOT a necessity for a good game, but it's seems like some people think it is.

Everyone seems to think quantity over quality. Quests that have no real consequence are not that fun to play. And they can very quickly become repetitive. Games are telling a story, and so should the missions within them.

I'll be love to see a Red Hood game from this developer or Rockstedy, which is 3rd person with optional 1st person view. I'll be love that!
New this game would be botched by the delays. Also Origins wasn't the best Arkham game either! Why could they have not just stuck to the same formula as City/Knight along with creating an awesome campaign with these characters

I've enjoyed playing in the overall, mostly because of the setting and characters carrying the experience (both elements are very well done) but it's hard to disagree with the criticisms and final summary here.
I’m still going to buy it, just on a sale. with all these great games coming out and with the economy the way it is, really have to budget.

RPG style is what kills this game. Why WB thinks it's good to add in the RPG elements in this game? And no more counter, fck them!
Ign have completed failed to give this game a proper review. I spent 15 hours playing this game with a friend so far and it’s honestly a blast. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THAT THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE OPINION OF ONE MAN who does not share that same likes and dislikes as you do, set your expectations for Gotham Knights correctly. It’s going to be updated it’s going to be improved, if cyberpunk managed to turn around a difficult release this game can too.

I am glad I saw this review in time to cancel my naively placed pre-order. This costs 300 bucks in Brazil.
So it's like completing all the main and side missions in Spiderman ps4 and then trying to 100% then game from that point. Honestly when this game goes on sale I'll probably still buy it just because it's something to sink time into not to mention there's been a lack of some good batman content.
Has anyone else notice the similarities to the Ninja Turtles? Batman-Splinter, Nightwing-Leo, Red Hood-Raph, Babs-Don, Robin-Mike, Alfred...April. IDK seems weird. Good times though!
