Riot made 1.5b profit in 2023 and 2024 but they are getting bankrupt because I got 7 kayle skins and 7 leona skins from rerolling skin shards while playing Miss Fortune
i literally pulled skins for champs i never considered to play, played them to test out the skin i got and noticed that i actually like this champion. resulted me in buying skins for the champ. i have many friends with the same experiences. i dont know how that could be "bad" for their revenue since now i have less reasons to play other champs since i really like skins. judge me or not, it was a huge part for me in trying out a different champ and now thats gone.
my fav champions are sona and miss fortune. Skins I got from hextech chests were for aurelion sol, anivia, riven and cassiopeia but I did get ruined miss fortune by y'know actually buying it after the riot forge game. I would never have bought the skins I got from chests with actual money.
I think that's the most common thing in League on all servers. It's a matter of curiosity like "alright fine, what have I got to lose?" and then try out the champion with the skin they got. For riot to not notice that makes me question if their cognitive thinking is there or not.
sound packs, new announcers, new kill effects, new skins for the rift, new turrent models and minions/monsters models/ a monthly premium subscription/ a better battlepass/ collaborations etc. the fact that they are still stuck in skins is baffling
That's what don't make sense at all when they say 'they tried other cosmetics' and they didn't even actual try. I bet you LOT of people would pay BUCKS to bring back winter skin for rift
The funniest part of this debacle is that the chests weren't even good. You were lucky if you got a skin out of it and not a champ shard or ward skin, and they STILL removed them lmao
seriously when was the last time you got a pretty skin from hextech chest? You always got a champ shard or emote or ward skin or lower than epic tier skin , I have never gotten a pretty skins from there only that 1 time I got pulsefire Ezreal :D and I have been playing for 4 years
@@sonak78 You mean meddler? Tryndamere wasnt in the vid. Tryndamere is Marc Merrill, the greedy co-founder with a net worth of 200.000.000$ who probably made the shitty decision he forces his devs to be the face of.
@@sonak78 nah, tryndamere is part of the problem. He maxxed out his political donations to a pact for trump. Hes only pretending to be sad about these monetization changes, he makes BANK off of them and clearly is using his money to push for similar changes in other markets.
I once got a skin for Aatrox and ended up liking playing him so I bought his legendary skin. I mean the fact that they remove this means that I’m never gonna start playing another champion - probably - and buy their legendary skin.
What they don't realize is, those skins i got for free? I was NEVER going to buy them in the first place. I only BUY skins that I want. I don't reroll hoping to get a skin I want, I would just buy it.
Same. Although I guess it prevented me from buying skins for some champs. For example, I got the Gun Goddess MF from the hextech system. And as an adc player, I kinda have to play MF and I likely would have bought a skin for her if I didnt get the best skin for the champ for free
exactly. no one is going to see a new cool skin. and put their hopes on hextech chest to get it. they'd just buy it. hextech chest were just for things we would never buy. but are nice to use rarely
Yes, but it still takes away from their profit as they see it. So they won't give you free things if you arent going to buy anything in the first place.
They act like you get the exact skin for the champs you play on the first chest and you dont have to pay a single penny ever again LMAO. In reality you get old legacy skins for champs you don't play, icons and skins for wards BUT when you actually get a decent skin the feeling was amazing because the odds are so small. Nobody sat there knowing they will get a skin for their champ and so they dont have to pay money lol it was just a nice bonus... Otherwise it would be like going to the slot machine hoping youll get enough money to buy a car.
They hate the playerbase so much that they progressively make it harder to communicate in a team-oriented game. Then they're squeezing every drop for the new MMO. I was excited for it, but for the future of the industry, I hope it fails.
Riot pretends like they don't have partnerships, sponsors, epsorts teams buying franchise slots, etc. They also are the ones burning money on Arcane (Overall fine for advertise IMO), "Player view" (Remember that garbage), trying to turn LoL esports into a mainstream sport. Plus they have income from TFT crap and LoL Merch, like their hundred dollar statues that sell out. Good old corporate greed never changes.
Funny thing is that Blizzard is slowly trying to make good things in WoW (after Shadowlands catastrophe) and WoW is in pretty good shape. Yes Diablo is underwhelming and almost no one cares about other games (besides overwatch but thats a separate story). So Blizzard at least acknowledge their mistakes in WoW and try to fix it. Riot? Nah. They gonna fall down on their face.
@@Bobalini1Struggle to keep ip alive ? With one of the most popular Netflix show, the most anticipated MMO and the biggest esport scene on earth ? 😂 Yeah what a Struggle 😅
Fun Fact: Dylan Jadeja is the new CEO of Riot Games since September 2023... and we got all of this horrible stuff like gachas, the BE drama and now the removal of chests just after that... 🤔
and don't forget the undisenchantable esports emotes/icons for orange essence, reduction of esports drops, passes that feel like a drag to level up. Almost all the stuff that would keep a player engaged was scrapped and they wonder why they can't get new players
I want my Hextech chests back in LoL. They didn’t rework the system-they just removed the chests, leaving a system that now feels incomplete and pointless. Earning S-ranks no longer rewards anything, making the whole progression feel empty. And what am I supposed to do with all these keys now? Riot, you really screwed us over.
Yeah. Also, wtf am I supposed to do with my keys and orange essences? Now they feel completely useless. At least they should provide something as compensation for it
You know what this reminded me off? Overwatch. They fucked up the game with a 2 and all they did was remove lootboxes and implemented a battlepass in its place. No wonder Riot is fucking up their image and future :/
wait really oh holy fuck so that's who I have to blame for the death of LoR such a shame but at least it makes sense, they made former CFO a CEO, so it's all about money now cringe
Their argument doesn't hold up. The likelihood of getting a skin for a specific champion is 1/170, and spenders most likely already bought skins for their mains. Riot isn't going broke and they won't suddenly go broke over a system that existed for 9 years. If they really need more money, how about less 500$ skins and more quality? Give the damn chests back and I'll consider spending again
Even the downgrade in the battlepass, bunch of "free skins" with lowered quality, and with so many multiple skins for one champion, what are they even doing right now taking away the chests...
It looks even worse when you look at The battle passes for other games. Rivals literally gives you 10 skins of ok to very good quality and you can buy the pass for $10… 10 skins for $10 plus a whole bunch of other stuff. Meanwhile Riot is giving out less skins and with so little quality they are having to go back make them better because people complained.
@@Its_Large_Dad And to make it EVEN WORSE for Riot the Rivals battlepass, if you buy it, once the season ends it doesn't disappear, meaning you can keep playing and unlock the stuff from that pass even if you're playing 1 or 2 seasons after and get its rewards, something that, guess what, you won't be able to do with this pass! So you wanna get any of this act's skins but only have 2 weeks to do so? TOO BAD SON YOU'RE SHIT OUTTA LUCK!
I obviously don't know if this applies to others (didn't ask for the reason), but I enjoyed collecting all league skins via shard rerolls. There's actually quite a big community behind people that get all skins just for the sake of collecting them, but when Jhin came out there was the first big upset of people, though that got solved by being made aware that it can be rolled into. Sure with a 6 month delay (or so), but that was fine, still just 3 skin shards. But then they started excluding skins from shard rerolls and that's where a lot of the community (including myself) stopped getting more skins. I am sure there is an uptick in revenue for Riot when they implemented the gacha system the way it is now (and yea, chests were not much different from that, it's literally lootboxes but at least you can outright buy the skins), but more and more people stopped buying skins as a collection thing. Which is possibly why they now face an issue of reduced revenue. In the beginning collectors still got all skins, but now a lot of them are done. And I don't mean a few %, I mean servers around that topic slowed down by 40-60%.
Damn ever since Dylan Jadeja became the new CEO of Riot everything went downhill. From mass layoffs to layoffs, and now the enshitification of both VALO and League esp w the introduction of gacha and removal of free chests That dude only has one thing in his mind and that's money. Honestly worried for Riot MMO...
@@vespertellinoit doesnt even make sense because as a CFO you should care about long term financial situation above all else. The direction of riot right now is the opposite of this. This is just following all triple A game company philosophy. Make premium cosmetic, sell for lots of money and squeeze as much as possible, game dies, move on to next game/company. Valorant is already a dying game w its only consistent content being $100 bundle skins.
@@bruh1704 As a CFO, yes. As a CEO it's all about getting your bonuses as fast as possible as CEO's churn fast. So what do you do? You appease to shareholders by getting bigger and bigger over year profits. Line must go up as we say. And since League's player base isn't exactly growing the only way to do this, is by doing shitty things like we're seeing now.
that's crazy because they talk as if chests guaranteed a skin, while at best you only get a random skin shard at best, when it's not a damn amumu champion shard. Furthermore even by fusing three shards to get a skin the chances you get the skins you want for the champion(s) you play are so low and they're acting as if getting all of those random free skins are hurting the sales while this system has been there for YEARS and they never said anything. Plus people wouldn't have never paid for those random free skins anyway, riot has become just a greedy and soulless company
has become? always was, i stopped playing 3 years ago because it already was. most people still playing are literally -and i really mean this- addicted and dont WANT to play anything else, even if they complain every day about league
that and their gacha system made me quit playing tbh, much more simpler when the best skin you could get were ultimate skins, now they're adding these mythic chromas and exalted skins
Tbh the quality of skins was so bad that I was using only modded skins anyway, still chests where something to look forward to whenever I played just to see if I get something
@@juanarellano8353 I have gained a total of 156 free skins through this system, so it's actually a lot more, BUT I would have never bought any of them - therefore, Riot lost nothing. It's just another case of "our shareholders gotta get more money y'all".
Since 2022 the player base per month has dropped from 180million to 130 million. The player base had a fun game to play and now the developers have been killing it with boring items and runes that are more niche than game changing.
How is this small indie company gonna make ends meet with hexchests in the game though??? Even worse, how will the shareholders afford another yacht???
I think rito underestimates how much Hextech chests give people reason to play. I remember how often i was happy remembering "oh yea i got X skin, i gotta play that champ" or when i play some random champ and see i have a great skin for it
@@Cj-cv4wbfuck no, I understand subscription based games do exist, however that should never become the common thing amongst newer AAA games. If Riot does that and people still play it, then every other game dev will start to follow suit. Honestly, I would rather pay the price of a AAA game and still have micro transactions instead of subscription based.
@@Cj-cv4wb imagine if they followed a runescape sandbox model while retaining what an mmorpg is like WoW. Runescape is older than of these guys and yet is still extremely loaded with players. WoW is just because it's wow, it's the epitomy of an mmorpg. I could never imagine Riot pulling off something that can destroy wow. Which all the more reason for me to wish that they can. Whatever the fuq are they doing in HQ is so out of what it was once during the better years.
I think a lot of players get a good skin from Hextech Chests and start maining that champion, because of the skin. That way they already have the perfect skin for their champion. It does make sense to me.
This is gonna make people quit so fast, first your not able to get enough blue essence to get your favorite character without farming, second once you get said favorite character you now cannot get your favorite skin for them, third with the amount of skins they pump out for human characters like lux ezreal and Katarina they don't want to show love to their other champions when was the last time you saw cho' gath get a visual update let alone a skin?
cho is kinda bad example. Since covid he's gotten like 3-4 skins... And that's better than a lot of champions entire lifetime. (cough cough karthus cough cough) He could definitely use a VGU, though, that's for sure.
not all human characters get the same treatment, last year I was waiting for a garen skin, we got a gacha skin. welp guess you should wait for next year and hope its a good skin overall. plus i met someone who bought the gacha garen skin, and I told him in the in game chat, if you are the reason we dont get a normal garen skin, you are the fault and also I told him to go f himsefl. He laughed it off and said I don't care.
I personally call bs on that logic. There is no way they are losing less than 15-10% revenue because of chests. If I recall that Faker skin was really successful.
This is the way to do it, instead of complaining and people Uninstalling over it. If you want to be heard by riot - stop spending money. The game is free, enjoy it and play it as a free to play game!
Hate to say it... they are right, back before hextech I used to buy a lot of skins... ever since I have not bought a single skin except the arena samira... they lost all the revenu they used to get from me, im now at over 1k, 80% of my champions have a skin im satisfied with and dont see a reason to buy skins
Also if the problem comes recently that doesnt align with recently changes? like firing the people that make skins?- the skin quality dropped, added gacha mechanics in the game, adding 200$ chromas as ''skins'' and they wonder why people don't want to spend money?
Problem is that they just had no foresight both when they made that system and now when removing it. Like i have a friend who has over a dozen big skins from the chests (stuff like Spirit Guard Udyr and Elementalist Lux), these being part of the Hextech chest was likely a mistake business-wise since there's some legitimate production value tied to them. But on the other hand, as far as i'm concerned 99% of the skins i got out of that system were either for champs i never play outside stuff like Aram, so i wouldn't had bought skins for them anyway, or lower value skins for champs i do play that i would had never bought having the better ones already. So Riot basically didn't lose money from the skins i got cause i wouldn't had bought these skins anyway (and neither will i without the chests). So i'm really skeptical removing the chests will increase revenue that much. Even worse, it reduces the incentive to engage with the game, which isn't something you want when going full steam ahead with a battlepass+gacha system. So yeah, not sure who made that call but i'd love to see his reasoning behind it, even from a cold, corporate, money driven point of view. I feel the way to go would be, as with most thing in life, find some kind of compromise. Bring back the chests but either remove or heavily reduces the odds of getting the big production skins (i never remember the tier names). Yes its still a consumer unfriendly move and people still gonna be mad, but at the same time it will keep people engaged and that engagement will probably translate in more money than a few extra sales on skins like Goth Annie lol.
Yeah I’m done playing league till chest come back. I stopped playing SR cause it’s too toxic and started playing aram and tft…. It’s just not worth it anymore…. SEE ON MARVEL RIVALS BOYS!!!!
Riot makes profit (faker skin and gacha). Riot does NOT have a profit issue. If anything they have a SPENDING issue (Arcane) without making the effort to make the game approachable to new audiences (removing chests, level up rewards, less value in the battle pass which also forces certain skins, complicated gameplay without a proper tutorial, toxic community although not their fault necessarily). Hextech chests rarely gave a skin you wanted, in my few years, I got like 5 or 6 that I really liked, which was great, but only one for a main. Rest were my flex/fun picks But, they were progression. Just as infinite orbs in a pass were great progression. Just as mythic essence every 50 levels was good progression, just as BE for BE emporium was good. It could always be better for F2P, but this was SOMETHING for F2P. Now ranked rewards are nonexistent, battle pass is worse, skins are pumped out at lower quality (chroma gacha skins like God king, Dark Cosmic, relaunching empyrean or oddyssey under different names), no chests for mastery, no level up bonuses. At the same time, a gacha system WITH NO FREE PULLS is introduced. The gameplay feels worse due to noxus buffs causing rushes and death piles on objs or for first takedowns.
Bro, they for sure gonna see more whales willing to spend $250+ on their gacha now that they removed the system that gave you a 50% chance for a single skin in a pool of 1700+. I always wanted to burn all my cash and the only thing holding me back was Defender Leona and Shamrock Malphite, but now I'm feeling really motivated, encouraged and most importantly respected by Riot enough to give them all the money that I would spend on food for a month.
i played for 3 years ''casual player" and i never got my main champ skin ( i just end up with champ skins i don't play "somehow" i'm sure riot have no hand on that :3 ) - you need mastery to get chests - you need keys to open chests - 80% of the times you get (champ shards , blue essences , trash icon, trash ward skin ) - you need orange essences to get the skins ...... but thanks riot for making me delete the game
Nerfing the pass made me stop getting them. Removing the chests alongside adding predatory gatcha systems made me put LoL on an hiatus. I bought my share of legendaries back in the day and I was hoping that my main Shaco was getting one. Well not only I don't like it, but it's coming out in a period where I don't want to support Riot. Guess that the whales made up 1000 times what I could ever spend. I guess league is popular enought to tank the loss of the playerbase that removing chests will bring, they are big enough. Funny thing is that it's about the principle behind the action, not losing the 4 times per month chests that either gave you (increasingly more) champ shards, ward skins, emote and sometimes a champ skin (which could be a duplicate or something you didn't like).
I can confirm as myself never ever bought a skin again once the chests were released. Instead of waiting decades for an expensive/cool skin that I might not like in the end, I now wait for what the tide will bring me, actually made me enjoy quite a lot of other skins. Now I dust everything until I find legendaries and such. Like 5 legendary a year, which I would have never ever bought with money otherwise.
Rito is out of touch and hate their players. they make garbage skins and wonder why they don't sell and the slightly cool ones they make un affordable they deserve to lose their base.
Honestly even if they don't want to give us back the chests there's still an easy fix League wants to turn into a gatcha game? Fine, do it Add all the champion skins to the gatcha Add all the ward skins and emotes as well Heck, add icons, whatever If you get a repeat item you get mythic essense Add back champion shards to the muthic essense shop for like a medium high amount, let's say around 200 instead of the previous what, 100 they had before? If you get a repeat icon or emote you get like 10 mythic essense A repeat ward skin you get 50 mythic essense A repeat skin you get 100 mythic essense A repeat limited banner specific item 200 mythic essense And a repeat main limited banner reward, the big skin reward, like 500 mythic essense Create like 2 weekly missions that are somewhat difficult to complete, but if you manage to complete them and people who play semi regularly, like 1/2 games a day, let's say, then you get 2 gatcha pulls Per week you get 2 pulls, most of those pulls will be icons and emotes, every 10 pulls you're guaranteed a limited banner reward, so a special chroma or skin that's only obtained in the banner, but not the big special prize Every 5 pulls you're guaranteed a skin And after 80 pulls you have the standard guaranteed main prize of the banner With this system players still get skins, the more skins they have, the less chance to get a new one, but they get mythic essense to spend however they want, get cosmetics or skin shards. Collecting 3 skin shards would let you reroll once guaranteeing one skin you don't have 2 gatcha pulls a week, that's 8 gatcha pulls a month, give or take, that's 80 gatcha pulls a year, so given enough time a f2p player can eventually get one special gatcha skin and if that player has the patience to wait for the banner with the skin they want, let's say you really like arcane, you wait for a fractured arcane jinx skin rerun and then you go all in on that banner and finally get a skin, no money spent, just being consistent at the game Gatcha games need to give the illusion of fairness and they need to reward the player for playing their game, there's no appeal in gatcha for a f2p if to participate you first need to spend, you need to give the currency for free to the average player so that the average player gets the illusion that they can win and if they lose but really want that reward they will be more inclined to spend the money This is basic gambling psychology and riot really needs to study it better because right now they are just decreasing profit margins while only appealing to whales. Funnily enough if they did what companies like mihoyo are doing there would be less discontent even though technically it would be more predatory, especially for children, but the game would also reward you more for playing it I've seen this work for some of my friends that play games like genshin or star rail, I only spend 15€ a month in star rail for the currency pass for a month and the battle pass at the end of the patch. However some of my friends when they fail a 50/50 pity, instead of accepting their losses, sometimes, if they feel that the character would be beneficial for their account will spend upwards of 80 bucks to guarantee it. That's how these games get you, not by gating you out of the gatcha with a paywall like riot is doing right now
right... they pull the we don't make money move, soo about 10 years of free skins later and gatcha skins costing 400$ or more, battle passes, targeted skin sales and a lot more stuff to bring money in, after all that + arcane which long term will make them money through royalty, they say that they are not making any money, hahaha, just accept the fact that you are trying to milk every last drop of the league domain, hearing all this staff about league, i hope they don't ruin their mmo game. they really hate success i guess.
Why didnt they just make the hextech chests available for blue essence in a limited time based on how many keys you already own? So if you have 6 keys then you can only buy 6 chests but you can get them with blue essence so you still have to play the game.
How I "abused" chests, telling from personal experience: "Buy some chests/orbs/etc, open, see no shards I wanted, see something nice on champs I play rarely or never played before, craft, reroll trash. Repeat, give up, eventually buy some skins for my mains for a full price. Start to play champs, skins for which I crafted, want to buy for them some new skins. Repeat all the story again." In the end I spent way more money then if I only bought skins. And don't tell me RIOT did not knew what they did and my experiencve is something extraordinary. Also, majority of new skins are generic, cloned bs, everything is same looking. Nothing funny to buy, only generic asian gacha skins for generic asian gacha game. Last good thing was KDA Gragas.
I only spent money in league once, and that was, you were right, the time I bought my favorite skin for my favorite champion. This happened while the chests system was going on, and I wouldn't have put money in league if it weren't there, as like when it wasn't, when chests didn't even exist.
Funny how I literally stopped playing this season and hextech chest not being there is just the sht to stop me from being addicted to the game I have been playing for 13 years. Good going riot for stopping my addiction.
this is exactly it, I like Singed, and Trynd. I got the one skin I like on Trynd,, and the only Singed one I don't have is Riot Singed, which im obviously never getting. No matter how many Ezreal and Mf skins they make, I'm never going to buy one. When I was buying skins for other champs, it was from the $5 ones, I'll pay $5 for a champ I don't play that often, but when I do it's worth it if I don't want the base skin.
''I don't have a reason to not see this being true'' Looking at ONLY the Ahri Faker skin and how much it sold, this feels disingenuous. The ''everyone already got their favorites and their favorite cosmetic'' fails to see that that's not *REALLY* how it works, people will continually buy their faves new skins if they like it
One word: Coorporate greed. Was thinking to remove league anyway due to rhe chinese spyware called Vamguard. This is the last nail in the coffin now. Imagine not rewarding players litterally keeping the game allive for you but rather remove content, remove rewards and implement a gatcha mechanism... Riot = Blizzard 2.0
For me it sounds like some suit went into a meeting and just multiply the number of skins given away by hextech chest and multiply for the value and said ¨if we didn´t gave them away we would have earned this much¨ I stopped buying because they became too expensive and usually my champions don´t get that many skins
Actually, if they have a problem with the Hextech Chest, they can just limit what skins a player can obtain in the Hextech Chest. Like you can only obtain skins from 2018 or below from the chest.
-Unlocalized products will NEVER sell optimally, in some countries with weak currency 150 $ is a monthly allowance of a 4 member working class family, so 250$ is a solid 45 days of food and not pocket change for kids to buy a skin. -Client has been preforming worse with all the addons. -Community is on edge (Example players are way more toxic than usual over the loss of chests)
I commented on the video they posted explaining the average salaries in my country and how their prices are illogical to us and that the small amount that I might be able to pay each month (which isnt really small for me) does not buy me anything valuable enough then from the moment the comment started getting some likes, my comment got deleted!!!
I spent money on this game because i got skins i wanted in the your shop thing and i was going to spend more since they are so cheap in that shop but since they have taken hextech chests away i have stopped playing game completely and deleted it i will consume your arcane show and that is it
League isn't dying, because everybody complains about these things but continues to play and support the game. Over the last few years, we've had an outrage over something crazy that "could never have been guessed" like the 500$ Faker skin. And yet people continue to play, and keep crying when it still happens? Actually stop playing the game if you want to see change
I think they are failing to realize a massive revenue stream they are simply foolishly forgetting. League players, other than the like 1% who are Master+ who are super nerd fans for the lore, characters, etc. Cut deals for novels, short stories, posters and merch so you can get a piece. You know how many of us would pay top dollar to ship a fucking like badass painting or plushie or bobblehead or otherwise of our favorite champs and skins?!?! We are nerds you morons if you give us shiny knick-nacks of our hyper fixation nerd fix we will buy it, in droves. Like they dont even gotta make the shit in house. License the rights out for reasonable percentage cuts. Like you have created a nerd out horde who are obsessed with this shit, just feed the shiny hyperfixation demons you'll make plenty of money.
In recent years, Riot has only made changes that have degraded the game, the only people who continue in the game are those who already have everything on their account and just want to play with their friends or just dumb...
Yeah i got 70 skins, but i get them after years and years playing this game. Like from season 2. And more than half of this skins i dont want, i have over 7000 games in aram, i dont think average lol player is wasting so much time. And i see 0 reason to play lol anymore. In the past i was always praising LoL for chest system in the conversation with other people, now i have 0 reason to tell anyone to play lol.
It is funny because in Hextech chest is where I get my Elementalist Lux, Spirit Guard Udyr and Gun Goddess Miss Fortune, I just check and the chances are 1/270 chance each pull. I didn't get them simultaneously. When I stopped playing LOL and change game to TFT, I stopped getting Hextech so I guess I don't care if the chest isn't coming back because when they pulled it, they didn't get any from me since I didn't have one at the time. I think people are angry because they haven't hit the jackpot yet or atleast hoarding massive numbers of chest, just waiting for keys, which is understandable.
This wouldn't really be an issue to me personally, assuming that they just made all the champions free without some dumb rotations or having to buy them with BE so people can play who they want immediately and actually counterpick in this game.
Coming right after dropping one of the worst gacha systems for cosmetics ive ever seen, that was specifically made to be unachievable in hextech chest is that makes this whole thing sound so hollow, like if they would have went "okay were getting rid of hex tech chest but only because we want to keep this game affordable to all types of players" but no, this happens after over the last year monetization went into hyper charge mode there were 500$ skins followed by 250$ gacha systems, to then remove the chest and still be like "were going full speed on the gacha" is wild
The worst part is that it wont even matter if this has a negative effect in their income or neutral, because they made the change at the same time they introduced the gacha, so it will just look like everything they did actually helped them because of the whales spending on it.
5:40 thats me xD, im a grinder i can wait a lot for the skins i want. It's true that lot of people ignore the Store cause the hextech system, but i think the number of people that will never pay for a skin anyway is bigger. Also they release so much skins that lot of times i dont even know they release.
Is riot an idiot? who tf are going to buy non epic skins? if people are gonna buy a skin they will buy epic/legendary skins and these epic legendary skins were already low chance in hextech chests. and my main is jax and i been playing since 2017 and i havent gotten any good jax skin from the chests. so removing hextech chests arent gonna bring them more revenue theyre just delusional.
I think players are being disingenuous, I have gotten all ultimate skin, 10 legendary, and a skin I enjoy with most my champions... If youvr played for enough time you have gotten skins yiu wouldve bought....

I didn't even realize this but I've done the same thing so many times!

my fav champions are sona and miss fortune.

The funniest part of this debacle is that the chests weren't even good. You were lucky if you got a skin out of it and not a champ shard or ward skin, and they STILL removed them lmao
Nobody talking about that. I usually find a skin shard only 20% of times (no joking)

There's so many skins in the game that you rarely got anything you actually like
It was mostly there for the fun of it
And I don't mean a few %, I mean servers around that topic slowed down by 40-60%.
why didn't they just call this season League of Legends 2

Yes!!! This!!!!!

Ill keep the client installed only for tft. I wouldnt if TFT had its own client
Rest were my flex/fun picks
But, they were progression.
The gameplay feels worse due to noxus buffs causing rushes and death piles on objs or for first takedowns.
this was exactly my thoughts
you can create $200 skins
OR
you can take away the free loot
but cannot do both
Bro, they for sure gonna see more whales willing to spend $250+ on their gacha now that they removed the system that gave you a 50% chance for a single skin in a pool of 1700+. I always wanted to burn all my cash and the only thing holding me back was Defender Leona and Shamrock Malphite, but now I'm feeling really motivated, encouraged and most importantly respected by Riot enough to give them all the money that I would spend on food for a month.
i played for 3 years ''casual player" and i never got my main champ skin ( i just end up with champ skins i don't play "somehow" i'm sure riot have no hand on that :3 )
- you need mastery to get chests
- you need keys to open chests
- 80% of the times you get (champ shards , blue essences , trash icon, trash ward skin )
- you need orange essences to get the skins
...... but thanks riot for making me delete the game
Like 5 legendary a year, which I would have never ever bought with money otherwise.
it's so funny to see Riot dig his own grave 🤣
at least they wont be alone they"ll be next to a hextech chest
It's so sad* Runeterra might be the best heroic fantasy world humanity created since Middle earth lol
Rito is out of touch and hate their players. they make garbage skins and wonder why they don't sell and the slightly cool ones they make un affordable they deserve to lose their base.
"Selling skins" like 250-500 skins aren't enough for them. Even if they reduced the amount of chest still keep them around ffs.
Honestly even if they don't want to give us back the chests there's still an easy fix
League wants to turn into a gatcha game? Fine, do it
Add all the champion skins to the gatcha
Add all the ward skins and emotes as well
Heck, add icons, whatever
If you get a repeat item you get mythic essense
Add back champion shards to the muthic essense shop for like a medium high amount, let's say around 200 instead of the previous what, 100 they had before?
If you get a repeat icon or emote you get like 10 mythic essense
A repeat ward skin you get 50 mythic essense
A repeat skin you get 100 mythic essense
A repeat limited banner specific item 200 mythic essense
And a repeat main limited banner reward, the big skin reward, like 500 mythic essense
Create like 2 weekly missions that are somewhat difficult to complete, but if you manage to complete them and people who play semi regularly, like 1/2 games a day, let's say, then you get 2 gatcha pulls
Per week you get 2 pulls, most of those pulls will be icons and emotes, every 10 pulls you're guaranteed a limited banner reward, so a special chroma or skin that's only obtained in the banner, but not the big special prize
Every 5 pulls you're guaranteed a skin
And after 80 pulls you have the standard guaranteed main prize of the banner
With this system players still get skins, the more skins they have, the less chance to get a new one, but they get mythic essense to spend however they want, get cosmetics or skin shards. Collecting 3 skin shards would let you reroll once guaranteeing one skin you don't have
2 gatcha pulls a week, that's 8 gatcha pulls a month, give or take, that's 80 gatcha pulls a year, so given enough time a f2p player can eventually get one special gatcha skin and if that player has the patience to wait for the banner with the skin they want, let's say you really like arcane, you wait for a fractured arcane jinx skin rerun and then you go all in on that banner and finally get a skin, no money spent, just being consistent at the game
Gatcha games need to give the illusion of fairness and they need to reward the player for playing their game, there's no appeal in gatcha for a f2p if to participate you first need to spend, you need to give the currency for free to the average player so that the average player gets the illusion that they can win and if they lose but really want that reward they will be more inclined to spend the money
This is basic gambling psychology and riot really needs to study it better because right now they are just decreasing profit margins while only appealing to whales. Funnily enough if they did what companies like mihoyo are doing there would be less discontent even though technically it would be more predatory, especially for children, but the game would also reward you more for playing it
I've seen this work for some of my friends that play games like genshin or star rail, I only spend 15€ a month in star rail for the currency pass for a month and the battle pass at the end of the patch. However some of my friends when they fail a 50/50 pity, instead of accepting their losses, sometimes, if they feel that the character would be beneficial for their account will spend upwards of 80 bucks to guarantee it. That's how these games get you, not by gating you out of the gatcha with a paywall like riot is doing right now
Their answer to the situation feels like getting the fifth ward skin in hextech chests in a row
right... they pull the we don't make money move, soo about 10 years of free skins later and gatcha skins costing 400$ or more, battle passes, targeted skin sales and a lot more stuff to bring money in, after all that + arcane which long term will make them money through royalty, they say that they are not making any money, hahaha, just accept the fact that you are trying to milk every last drop of the league domain, hearing all this staff about league, i hope they don't ruin their mmo game.
they really hate success i guess.
I dreamed opening hextech chests yesterday. The moment I see it, I knew I was dreaming.
Why didnt they just make the hextech chests available for blue essence in a limited time based on how many keys you already own? So if you have 6 keys then you can only buy 6 chests but you can get them with blue essence so you still have to play the game.
I would take this since I have 200k in blue essence and 28 keys.
Repeat all the story again."
In the end I spent way more money then if I only bought skins.
35k views and 5k likes. Amazing support, what a great community! And now lets look at the official riot video…
I only spent money in league once, and that was, you were right, the time I bought my favorite skin for my favorite champion. This happened while the chests system was going on, and I wouldn't have put money in league if it weren't there, as like when it wasn't, when chests didn't even exist.
Riot sweating as I get another emote from a chest that I will never use
Funny how I literally stopped playing this season and hextech chest not being there is just the sht to stop me from being addicted to the game I have been playing for 13 years. Good going riot for stopping my addiction.
same here, finally no more angry no more shout, no more feeders, its pretty calm nowadays
this is exactly it, I like Singed, and Trynd.
''I don't have a reason to not see this being true''
Looking at ONLY the Ahri Faker skin and how much it sold, this feels disingenuous. The ''everyone already got their favorites and their favorite cosmetic'' fails to see that that's not *REALLY* how it works, people will continually buy their faves new skins if they like it
Also where the fuck did Riot say the revenue went down?
I literally just use whatever skin I randomly got. Do they really think my favorite skin is Pharoh Amumu?
@@killerkonnat as far as i know companies love lying
Who would've predicted that it was only going downward from the super gacha Ahri skin.
Riot = Blizzard 2.0
That's
That's two words, sir
Mundo says acquire acquire
For me it sounds like some suit went into a meeting and just multiply the number of skins given away by hextech chest and multiply for the value and said ¨if we didn´t gave them away we would have earned this much¨
I stopped buying because they became too expensive and usually my champions don´t get that many skins
Actually, if they have a problem with the Hextech Chest, they can just limit what skins a player can obtain in the Hextech Chest. Like you can only obtain skins from 2018 or below from the chest.
Not that it'd be necessary with the already high odds of getting anything other than a skin.
But the problem is they'll just create new accounts and abused it this happened to wildrift back in December
They should start paying people responsible for hexteck chests removal in hexteck chests. Because they obviously value them VERY high.
I commented on the video they posted explaining the average salaries in my country and how their prices are illogical to us and that the small amount that I might be able to pay each month (which isnt really small for me) does not buy me anything valuable enough
then from the moment the comment started getting some likes, my comment got deleted!!!
12:30 the only light that i see is the sun cuz i'm going outside and not open that game for a long time
My current strategy, works great. I only play marvel rivals now
I feel like my Ice Toboggan Corki legendary skin found in a chest is somehow more sentimental now than ever
They should:
1) Fix their dogshit client
2) Put a Bitcoin miner
Players wouldn't even notice the difference.
Riot got confused, skipped step 1 and step 2 made the client worse.
ON GOD !!! This horrible client made legit consider uninstalling the game so many times .. ITS SO BAD and not even funny anymore
Finally somebody talks about the % of hexchest like every 2-3 was champ or ward, icon essence
Whoever said 2025 would change LoL as we know it was right. I don't think this is how they intended it to be received.
I think people are angry because they haven't hit the jackpot yet or atleast hoarding massive numbers of chest, just waiting for keys, which is understandable.
as someone sayed "they spend 3 minutes just to say no"
This wouldn't really be an issue to me personally, assuming that they just made all the champions free without some dumb rotations or having to buy them with BE so people can play who they want immediately and actually counterpick in this game.
3 month sobber wont comeback until they give free pulls
Im 1y sobber have 0 desier to come back
Coming right after dropping one of the worst gacha systems for cosmetics ive ever seen, that was specifically made to be unachievable in hextech chest is that makes this whole thing sound so hollow, like if they would have went "okay were getting rid of hex tech chest but only because we want to keep this game affordable to all types of players"
but no, this happens after over the last year monetization went into hyper charge mode there were 500$ skins followed by 250$ gacha systems, to then remove the chest and still be like "were going full speed on the gacha" is wild
Is riot an idiot? who tf are going to buy non epic skins? if people are gonna buy a skin they will buy epic/legendary skins and these epic legendary skins were
already low chance in hextech chests. and my main is jax and i been playing since 2017 and i havent gotten any good jax skin from the chests. so removing hextech chests arent gonna bring them more revenue theyre just delusional.
Ikr
I think players are being disingenuous, I have gotten all ultimate skin, 10 legendary, and a skin I enjoy with most my champions... If youvr played for enough time you have gotten skins yiu wouldve bought....
