Great player Ashley but never had much time for him as a person. After watching this my opinion has changed, he speaks very well and clearly has the passion and winning mentality to do well in management. I wish him well in the future.
I agree, Cashley Cole headlines, Cheating on Cheryl, WAG involvement etc, Smiling at an airport after England got knocked out etc, some great games for England but part of that generation of posers and failures, BUT this chat gives us a real insight into the person we only know from newspapers etc so hope he succeeds as a coach!
One of my favourite players. As an Arsenal fan growing up when Cole left it was tough. Utmost respect for what he’s done in the game and continues to do
Best balanced left back I’ve seen. Premier League theres no debate. Roberto Carlos may have been better going forward and Maldini better defensively but Cole had the balance of both attack and defence.
It's so great seeing Cole come out more and speak. Didn't do himself justice staying quiet and letting the journos decide his narrative. Best England LB I've ever seen.
Brilliant player. Wish Arsenal would have just paid him what he deserved. Us fans need to stop hating him for doing what any of us would have done if that happened in our careers/jobs. All the best to you in your coaching career Ash
was hated at arsenal when he left he was one of our own, shame how it was all handled, best left back england have had, comes across really well ,will make a good manager, good luck to you ash
We had Ash at Birmingham as a coach before he was taken by carsley to England and heard nothing but great things about him! Think he has a bad reputation but hes a topman and wow what a player
Ooooh. A conversation about England's 'golden generation'. Wonderful, im going to get the tea and snacks for this one. Never heard anyone talk about this before. Sure to be an enlightening belter 🤤
It sounds like Ash is going about getting into management in the right way and not rushing into it based solely on his name... Once he gets the opportunity, I wish him all the best
Before Ashley was talking about being given a chance by a willing CEO I was thinking about my team who're struggling in the Champ getting him in. I can see Ash becoming a top, top manager - not becsuse of who he was as a player - because his intelligence and awareness is elite.
Great to see Ash getting out there more now, what a player. He came to visit my primary school in Bow where we're both from cos his nephew was year above me, I was like 4 at the time (2006) but was still cool lol
Cole talks v well! Great podcast. Feels harsh to criticise but would have loved more time on each manager and how they contrasted tactically! Plus more tactical q’s eg re passing from back v direct style of the 00s
Gianluca Vialli, Marco Van Basten, Alan Shearer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Titi Henry, Johan Cruyff, Roberto Mancini, Simone Inzaghi, Sir Alex Ferguson, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Brian Clough, Jurgen Klopp, Jupp Heynckes, Sir Kenny Dalglish... Im struggling to think of any more but there is a bunch of strikers that became pretty successful managers or managed top clubs in their careers.
I was just as stumped as you guys about strikers being good managers. Driving home I was thinking bloody hell I think SAF and Clough were both strikers back in the day 😂
Some of these young players today should take a moment to listen to the likes of Ashley Cole, Emmanuel Petit, (even Ben Foster) and others who just seem to have a grounded, and malleable set of eyes for both the football and human side of the game.
Great episode. Easily could of had a part 2 or 3. Wpuld of love to hear more about his career. Felt like there was quite alot missed. Spent 5 mins talking about how we shit instead 😅
Mourinho used to have a rule that his fullbacks had to be at least a certain height(was it 1.78m?)and Cole was below that but he was that good he let it go.
From listening to these 2 podcasts Cole has got an extremely technical footballing brain, strategic and methodical. I think and hope he's going to be a very good manager in the near future. One of and if not the best left back to ever play the game 👍🏼 and also as a arsenal fan he made the right decision leaving us! We've won a couple FA cups since he left.....which btw he has won more than any other player 😮 what an absolute legend 👏🏽 oooooooh shit 1 last thing.......he was fucking Cheryl at the time 😂😂😂😂 wow 👌🏽 what a guy
Brill listen I always thought he was arrogant Ash Cole but fair play seems like decent guy. And I think he is very underrated player he was the best in his position in his prime
Clubs use these players when it suits them. Cole should have come out and spoke the truth similar to what salah did few weeks ago. Will help fans understand
I’m glad these so called ‘golden generation’ of England players do realise and speak about the fact that we were no where near the best team in the world at any point in time… golden for this country maybe, but when you look at Brazil, France, later Spain… Portugal, Italy… you’re also talking about some of the best teams ever… especially that era of France and Brazil… the bottom line is, we can talk all day about egos, managers, players in systems, camaraderie etc… we were simply just not good enough 😮
The mind genuinely boggles when I see Gary neville on over a million subscribers and the Peter Crouch Podcast is on less than 100k What the actual fuck is that all about? Crazy shit. 💙
130k Even so. Apologies for replying to ones own message. It's so bloody wrong and quite odd The Peter Crouch Podcast shits all over that lot. Madness, just pure madness. Don't wanna get it. We just know 👊🏽
Back then football revolved around 4-4-2. Imagine if they played 3-4-2-1 Seaman Terry Ferdinand Campbell Beckham Scholes Gerrard A.Cole Lampard Rooney Owen
The Golden Generation did not have the right coaches and it did not have a Good Defensive Midfielder. Gareth Barry was good at club level but he was not high level at International level. The coach had to either sit Lampard or Gerrard or Scholes on the bench to create more blance to that midfield. In saying that they came up againtst a top Italian team with great defenders and an unblievable Brazilian team with Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Juninho etc.....just not fair
Terry, Ferdinand,Cole, Neville, Gerrard,Scholes, Lampard, Beckham, Owen, Rooney were all world class TBF but then we had players like seaman, heskey, mills, Sinclair and a terrible manager in Sven who was in love with Beckham and let him play anywhere, with a proper manager we could of done better but the only team that had better players then us at that time was Brazil and France we were better than Portugal and Spain as it wasn't the Spain of xavi and iniesta at that time
@ they’re literally professional footballers that have played at the highest level and represented their country! Creating a podcast on the specialist subject of…. FOOTBALL! 🤣🤣🤣 Imagine that’s your rationale. They should know that, it’s common knowledge.
Why did England's golden generation fail. Because they were not good enough and a bunch of bottle merchants. If your good enough you win if not then you dont.
Getting ex pros on like this is the way forward 👍 great content
Amazing how much respect & recognition he gives to Tony Adams for mentoring him and helping/teaching him about defending.
@@shanekelley7682 he is still a terrible person though
This is the type of punditry we need on the tv. Listening to Cole has been an educational experience
Could’ve listened to a part 3,4 and 5 of this. One of my favourite Chelsea players of all time
One of my favourite players. As an Arsenal fan growing up when Cole left it was tough. Utmost respect for what he’s done in the game and continues to do
Great to hear Ashley speak in both episodes. Intelligent, reflective and endearing. Plus without doubt, ALWAYS in the World 11, when a player!
Best balanced left back I’ve seen. Premier League theres no debate.
Roberto Carlos may have been better going forward and Maldini better defensively but Cole had the balance of both attack and defence.
Great comment. 100% ball knowledge, take a bow.
Agree he was top!
nah maldini was great at attack too. carlos yes
Could listen to him all day. What a impressive bloke. We are looking at a future England manager
Nah hes a prick for choosing Chelsea
was hated at arsenal when he left he was one of our own, shame how it was all handled, best left back england have had, comes across really well ,will make a good manager, good luck to you ash
We had Ash at Birmingham as a coach before he was taken by carsley to England and heard nothing but great things about him! Think he has a bad reputation but hes a topman and wow what a player
Erm, Brian Clough, the best ever was a striker and the current best PL manager, Nuno Esprito Santo was a goalkeeper.
Best left back ever. Well done getting him on.
The disrespect to Aly Cissokho lmao
Behave
Great player, a great interview and great insight. Easily England's best ever left back.
Loved this. What a great guy Ash is. Speaks so well of the game. Pure class
Brilliant interview , loved this
Ooooh. A conversation about England's 'golden generation'. Wonderful, im going to get the tea and snacks for this one. Never heard anyone talk about this before. Sure to be an enlightening belter 🤤
Brilliant insight, always respected him as a player but new found respect for him after this interview
It sounds like Ash is going about getting into management in the right way and not rushing into it based solely on his name... Once he gets the opportunity, I wish him all the best
Ashley playing for Brazil national team as a more polished and technical attacking LB would be a huge weapon.
Before Ashley was talking about being given a chance by a willing CEO I was thinking about my team who're struggling in the Champ getting him in. I can see Ash becoming a top, top manager - not becsuse of who he was as a player - because his intelligence and awareness is elite.

London, Rome, Los Angeles and he finished the glittering career in Derby 😂 what a player and what a career. Hope he does well in coaching.
Cole talks v well! Great podcast. Feels harsh to criticise but would have loved more time on each manager and how they contrasted tactically! Plus more tactical q’s eg re passing from back v direct style of the 00s
Great interview. What a top guy!!!
Top 3 pod. Never expected it either what a bloke
Wow Ashley Cole, that was eye opener .I hope he goes onto higher things .
Love the pods guys! Just wondered what happened Friday pod?
He was amazing for us on loan at Palace for a season, we nearly signed him permanently , but couldn't stump up the £1M fee 😅
Crouchy getting tony adams on would be class as the next guest his vibe matches this pod no doubt
He's so boring though, however he is undoubtedly a legend of the English game.
It will get laddish and he will throw wrighty under the bus 😂
the long awaited! Thanks for free coaching mr. Cole
Top interview, great insight 👌🏽 🇦🇺
Brilliant comment about Aaron Lennon, never impacting the game…..100% bang on 👍
Could listen to him for hours
Gianluca Vialli, Marco Van Basten, Alan Shearer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Titi Henry, Johan Cruyff, Roberto Mancini, Simone Inzaghi, Sir Alex Ferguson, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Brian Clough, Jurgen Klopp, Jupp Heynckes, Sir Kenny Dalglish... Im struggling to think of any more but there is a bunch of strikers that became pretty successful managers or managed top clubs in their careers.
Great player but after listening to him I can’t wait to watch one of his teams!!! Future England Manager.
The Aaron Lennon Shade 😂😂😂
Crouch is right about Ashley Cole being our most reliable and consistent quality player..
CR7 said this man was his toughest opponent. That tells you everything.
Ashley would be a brilliant Manager!
I was just as stumped as you guys about strikers being good managers. Driving home I was thinking bloody hell I think SAF and Clough were both strikers back in the day 😂
Come at me if you wish - but Ashley Cole was a far better and complete player than Trent AA
I don't think anyone's ever tried to argue otherwise, Cole has and always will be streets ahead
100%
Loool who's comparing TAA to cole? 😂😂 TAA cant lace coles left foot
Completely different players it's like comparing Scholes to Gerrard
Stupid comment. There’s not even a left back playing football today as good as Ashley Cole.
"Didn't have a meeting with [Jose]." 😂
I was just about to be left disappointed by this whole 2-parter, when finally Starky brings up the Roma photo 🙌🙏😅 I was hoping for that one.
He did deal with Messi 1v1 champions league final that epic comeback
Some of these young players today should take a moment to listen to the likes of Ashley Cole, Emmanuel Petit, (even Ben Foster) and others who just seem to have a grounded, and malleable set of eyes for both the football and human side of the game.
Coach Cole good luck putting back 😀👍
This changed my perspective on Ashley’s Coke as an Arsenal fan ngl
Alex Ferguson. Brian Clough. Jürgen Klinsmann. Gianluca Viali. All strikers.
No Friday Pod today lads? 👍
Maybe Saudi might suit Cashley 😢
Best LB that I have ever seen. I'll never forget that diving header vs Kiev.
Inzaghi has done pretty well if you ask me lol. Can't think of many strikers come (successful) manager.
Unreal player. Sounds like good guy too defo had a hard time undeserved form public.
About didn’t have a meeting with him… He was literally caught and fined for meeting with Jose and Chelsea reps whilst under contract at Arsenal. 🤥
Mark Hughes probably best manager that was a striker from the English league
Clough and Ferguson done well
What a bloke

I'm actually stunned that this lot didn't know that Sir Alex Ferguson was a striker 😳 😬
Joe Royal - Centre Forward Manager
Missing out Sir Alex as a striker turned great manager is crazy.
Exactly this. Came here to say the same thing!
Ordinary manager - didn’t even win 14 prem titles 😂
Mark Hughes striker manager
The mind genuinely boggles when I see Gary neville on over a million subscribers and the Peter Crouch Podcast is on less than 100k

Crazy shit. 💙
130k
Even so.
Apologies for replying to ones own message.
It's so bloody wrong and quite odd
The Peter Crouch Podcast shits all over that lot. Madness, just pure madness.
Don't wanna get it. We just know 👊🏽
Lads on the subject forwards being managers. Brian Clough Trevor Francis Gian Lucca Vialli. Can't think of any more. KRO💙SotV
Klinsmann- USA-
What a great player he was, was almost as good as Denis Irwin as Cole didn't take penalties and free kicks but would of been perfect replacement
He was much better
I thought I wouldn’t like Ash. I’m wrong he’s rather pleasant
Brian Clough was a striker.
Teddy sheringham gave it a go
Sir Alex was striker!
There’s a topic that’s never been covered…
Kevin keegan meet Alex ferguson
Why would he be England head coach when he hasn't even been a manager!? What a ridiculous question!
Back then football revolved around 4-4-2.
Imagine if they played 3-4-2-1
Seaman
Terry Ferdinand Campbell
Beckham Scholes Gerrard A.Cole
Lampard Rooney
Owen
That still wouldn't work. There's still no balance. You need to drop Gerrard or Scholes and play a Carrick like player.
Would of been James or Robinson in goal if Terry, Lampard and Rooney were playing not Seaman
Nice jacket
Everyone knows it’s Butters!!!
Morning
There are fewer strikers and goalies in a team.
Wasn't cloughie a striker
@podcastworld7493
Yeah, a very very good one
My ill-informed view of Ashley has done a 180 , nice bloke
Alex Ferguson, literally best manager in history haha.
The Golden Generation did not have the right coaches and it did not have a Good Defensive Midfielder. Gareth Barry was good at club level but he was not high level at International level. Sir Alex Ferguson was a striker. But not in "Engurland" so doesn't count. 😇
Sir Alex Ferguson, the best manager ever was literally a striker. How do you not know that?! 🙄🙄
Probably because not everyone is Scottish / a United fan, he retired from playing in the 70s and he played in Scotland?
@ they’re literally professional footballers that have played at the highest level and represented their country!
Creating a podcast on the specialist subject of…. FOOTBALL! 🤣🤣🤣
Imagine that’s your rationale. They should know that, it’s common knowledge.
Best manager ever 😂😂😂😂
Did you see his record vs Guardiola? 😂
Calm down @@ShayneWilliams . People are allowed to not know things.
Inzaghi. Top manager whos a striker!
Love Ashley’s attitude, so sad he went to Chelsea!
Arsenal don't look after players
Wasn't Fergie and Clough strikers 👀🤣
Owen and cole saved England many times but because of politics they are not remembered favourably
Could see him at Luton…
Pep will tell you how to play even if you are Messi.
Why did England's golden generation fail. Because they were not good enough and a bunch of bottle merchants. If your good enough you win if not then you dont.
Alex Ferguson was a striker 😂
Hoping to paul scholes actually made me crease😂
Still not a better left back in the prem or England
LEFT BACK STRONGER
