    You just saved my life. I couldn't understand why TREATAS was not working. Your strategy using summarize worked. Thanks.

    Excellent solution to nest SUMMARIZE and TREATAS functions! Many thanks for the very helpful tip. If I may, continue to make videos like this.

    Thank you for great explanation. As I understand this function allows to join/compare two fact tables that are on different granularities.

    I think I start to understand things more clearly.
    I think the way DAX works is that each time you make a connection between tables, DAX simply puts Treatas every time a measure needs to run a measure, and every measure is run as a row context on it's basic level, so treatas just makes context transition every time.
    That's why you get Treatas every time you run measures in DAX studio, even on simple visuals/Measures.

    Sam, that is a truly smart function. Love it and very well explained, thank you. Does it need to be adjusted (added to) if you had an additional slicer and perhaps a chart on the same page that could interact with the table in example 2.

    • @EnterpriseDNA
      @EnterpriseDNA  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you certainly need to be aware of other relationships and how they interact with calculations. I find keeping the model simple very crucial when using this function. You don't want any confusion.

  • @Galahadoc
    @Galahadoc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is very cool. Certainly have had a lot of scenarios where this could have been useful - will have to keep it in mind for future use. Especially like the combination of treatas and summarise. I wonder if you run into any of the same types of relational conflicts that you would with the real relationships?

    • @EnterpriseDNA
      @EnterpriseDNA  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This function actually allows you to get around most of those conflicts. It's actually very powerful for advanced modeling work (well you don't even need to model now as you can use the formula instead in a lot of cases

      Amazing. I wish I was aware of it, or it existed, when I first started working with Power BI. Probably would have been a bit much to pick up back then - hopefully your video will help people starting out now.

    Hii Sam,
    I've a question, I don't understand why Treatas function doesn't show result for 2015 Budget.
    Have you applied any type of filters or what happened?

    In your example the Treatas result is empty on these rows (days) where there were no sales. How to avoid this and return the correct budget even if there were no sales on that particular day?

    Why don't you just directly link to the lookup Date table?

    • @EnterpriseDNA
      @EnterpriseDNA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Yi Ling,
      thank you for posting your query onto our channel.
      Well, we cannot create a direct link or relationship between Year column from the Budget table with the Year column from the Dates table. This is because, the granularity is quite high and therefore it'll result in a "Many-to-Many" relationship which is absolutely not recommended at all in order to have an ideal and optimized data model. When we create a "Many-to-Many" relationships between the tables it might also provide some ambiguous and unfavorable results. Below is some of the links provided for the reference.
      For furthermore queries, you can also reach out to us onto our Community Forum where our members as well as experts team will be able to assist you in a better and efficient manner. Below is the link of the forum provided for the reference as well.
      Hoping you find this useful.

    One question please related to the 2nd example , why you have selected Summarize ( 'Sales Data' , ......... ) and not Summarize ( Total Budget ..; )
    Maybe my understanding is not correct

    • @EnterpriseDNA
      @EnterpriseDNA  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because that's the order you want them to be placed into within the TREATAS function
