Thank you Michelle!
Thank you to Brenda and Laura for recommending your floss tube. I enjoyed the research you have done on the sampler motifs. This is one that I will want to listen to more than once. I look forward to more of your episodes.
Gigi sampler is amazing. That church. What a rabbit hole. Thanks for the needlework symbolism lesson.
Mic drop. Master class. You are OUTSTANDING for providing this content!!!!!! Thank you! Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
If this were locked up in a retreat for the few who could attend we would all be missing so much!!!!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!
Thank you so much Rene! I really appreciate your comments!!!
Absolutely loved every minute!!!
Thank you for such a wonderful flosstube jam packed with my favorite kind of information.
Bravo!!! Well done!!
Thank you so much!!!
I could just cry from excitement and love right now!!!! Grace! What an amazing floss tube!!!! I’m so inspired and wish I could come over to your house and look through all those charts with you!!! Wowza!!!! I will need to watch twice. Thank you for this gift !!! Love you, Laura
Laura!!! Thank you so much!!!! Love you, Grace
I enjoyed this flosstube very much. I am stitching a adam and eve sampler with lots of motiffs on it, that now make so much more sense to me:) Thanks for sharing and Happy Birthday to GiGi!
I love Gigi! What a fabulous informative floss-tube! Thank you. So glad I found you!
Grace, It is so lovely to see you again. Your projects are stunning. Thank you so much for sharing the history and symbolism of the samplers you are working on. I have bookmarked this video so I can revisit it. So much information for my pea brain to absorb in one sitting. I have been telling myself that I don't need to purchase another sampler right now, but you have twisted my arm. I am going to order Lady in Red Spinning Her Wool from the Attic from Gigi. You are an enabler, I say. Happy stitching. Best, K
Love all the Gigi R's! Thank you for the history lesson. Fascinating!
Hi Grace!! I LOVED this video!! I WILL BE watching this again!!! It’s FASCINATING to learn about the MEANINGS of motifs!!! Thank you THANK YOU!!!! You made me fall in love with German samplers AND GigiR samplers too!! Happy 90th to an interesting lady!!! Did I say THANK YOU for recording this video!! 👏👏👏👏🥰 I am especially drawn to Gigi patterns, as I was called GG by friends and family - they were my initials to a very French name that NO ONE could pronounce - I was like Cher or Madonna…. GG was all I was known by! ( my name was Gisele Gautreau- yep GG!). In recent years, my first name has been better received, when Tom Brady married Gisele whatchamacallit…😎. I’d say just like that supermodel, and I am 180 degrees opposite - she’s the. Razilian with long legs and I am the Canadian with the stubby legs 😂😂😂 anyhoo that pattern looks amazing thanks to you and Gigi!
My Goodness Grace!! This video is over the top. Thank you for sharing your in depth research. I will be watching this again because once through was not enough! You have confirmed what I believed to be true of samplers, very few of the motifs used were invented by the stitchers…..However, how they were arranged and combined on the samplers is where the creativity of each girl is displayed. Now, I just wish we could locate the original source of Mary, Joseph and the Donkey (another Gigi R sampler)!😊 Thank You again!
Thank you Jean!!!
My friend called her grandmother Gigi. So interesting hearing about all of the samplers. I love samplers so much. Loved your video. Happy Stitching 🪡 🧵 😊
Oh Grace you popped up on my recommended Flosstubes this morning. What a fabulous hour of amazing samplers, facts, stash enhancement and just sheer joy of stitching. The Gigi R samplers are breathtaking. I fell in love with a couple of samplers from the European selection. 🩷
Oh thank you!
You and I met briefly at The Attic Summer School last August but I only just realized you had a Flosstube. So……I had an unexpected snow day today and decided to watch. I loved this! Art and History are my jam. I just love to hear about the history and basis of each motif. And so many beautiful pieces to stitch. You expanded my wish list greatly. Thank you for sharing and I hope our paths cross again.
Thank you for watching!!! History is my jam, too.
Enjoyed watching your flosstube.
Happy birthday month to Gigi
Hi Grace! I love all your beautiful Gigi WIPs and finishes! Your work is exquisite and the attention to detail unmatched. I ‘ve had that first motif book you showed forever. I’ll have to get it out and study it again 😊. Thanks for sharing your talents & knowledge. ❤️
First, let me say how excited I am to see you back. I learn so much from your videos. I especially loved all the GiGi patterns and have put a few on my wish list. Would love to win a Gigi R as well. Thank you again for all the research you are doing. It is fabulous.
Fabulous! I’m from German descent so these samplers are from my peeps! Your rabbit hole brought information, joy and curiosity to all your viewers. Thank you for sharing. Gigi samplers are now on my bucket list.
Thank you Sarah! I’m half German as well.
Love your finish and your progress on your beautiful wips. Happy stitching!
I can thank Brenda and the serial starter for pointing me in your direction! Loved your interest in sampler history. I am also fond of Gigi samplers. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you Denise!
Grace, I enjoyed your last video so very much. So interesting and well presented. I look forward to your next video. Your work is amazing, especially on all your GiGi patterns. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. So appreciated!
What a wonderful history lesson you presented! Loved hearing about Saxon samplers from the many designers and historians, especially GiGi. A great way to honor her.
Thank you Linda!!
Ohh my,Ohh my GIGI!! What an Amazing flosstube!!!! My head is spinning with all of this information!!! 😊. Thank you for a most intriguing time!! Take care !! I look forward to the next time!!! Happy stitching!!! Bye!!!!! 😊❤❤ Barbara S.
Thank you Barbara!!!
Thank you for this wonderful flosstube. You were so organized and informative, and were a joy to listen to. I agree that this is an episode that needs repeated viewings in order to absorb everything.
Oddly enough, I'm sitting in my brother's house across from a large framed tapestry with many of these motifs that my grandmother stitched 50 years or so ago. It never really appealed to me growing up, but I'm now slightly jealous that my brother inherited it!
I haven't yet attempted a Gigi R sampler, but definitely want to try one at some point.
Take care.
Thank you for your comments and watching! How interesting your grandmother’s tapestry has some of the same motifs!! Was she German? I’d love to see a picture of the tapestry. Happy stitching!
OMGigi Grace! So many delicious samplers! You make me want to stitch them all (and I haven't finished even one yet)!!!! Love all the Gigi R charts as well as the others. You will need to continue working for a while with hauls like this - haha! Love you and thank you for sharing your wealth of new knowledge!
Oh my goodness bored not for one second. Thank you sincerely for sharing all of the information on the motifs and everything else. It was absolutely fascinating. I haven’t purchased a Gigi R sampler yet but I need to. I just returned to cross stitching last summer. I never would have thought I’d be interested in stitching samplers it’s so fun to have a newfound passion for a hobby that you love and enjoy. Thank you so much take care!
Thank you Shawn! Isn’t it great to have such a wonderful hobby!!
The video was so interesting to learn about the symbolism in German samples. The wips are so beautiful. I love the reproduction samples by Gigi. She is so talented
Thank you for watching Mary!!
Thank you so much for sharing these fascinating stories on all of these samplers. I am living now in Germany and love living here. I am lucky to be only a 20 minute drive to the Zweigart factory outlet shop. Hubby and I lived in different cities during his military career here and our first duty station was in Nuremberg. I have seen many of the symbols you mentioned in so many items especially in lithograph prints. I will now look for some books of the persons you mentioned. I took up cross stitch again after a 25 year hiatus and also have gone down a rabbit hole, but so happy especially collecting the patterns. These in my opinion are the most important as linens and flosses can be more readily found. I have began looking on sites here in Germany as well as other European sites for vintage samplers and again see so much of what you described. Thank you for your very thorough explanations and now I will begin looking. Sending you my best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. Laura
Hi Laura, You are lucky to live so close to the Zweigart factory. It makes sense the motifs would be in needlework and lithograph prints…very interesting! I, too, like to collect patterns; collecting is a separate hobby from actually stitching. Thank you for watching and Happy Stitching!
This was a fascinating video. I learned so much about the motifs. I now understand why Gigi is so popular. Thanks.
As I’m living (again after 35years overseas) in Dresden - Germany, I like to add to your saxony sampler info (I too have written to Scarlett letter about it and the posted this in their info) …about the church: „Maria on the Water“ Maria am Wasser is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Hosterwitz district of Dresden. With its exterior, which is reminiscent of southern German Baroque sacred buildings, it is completely atypical for the Dresden region. At 1,500 square meters, the churchyard is one of the smallest cemeteries in the city. The Maria am Wasser church and the churchyard are listed buildings and were part of the Dresden Elbe Valley cultural landscape as a UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2004 to 2009.
Grace, what a wonderful history lesson you have shared with us. The reappearance of so many of the motifs is delightful! The Gigi R patterns are gorgeous. But I thank you too for sharing those from the European Samplers. I look forward to your next flosstube! Carol in Texas
Thank you Carol!
Thank you for sharing of your discoveries. I love antique samplers. You have so many Gigi R’s! Beautiful!
Thank you, Grace, for the master class on German sampler motif symbolism. I learned so much today and love that imagery continues to connect us in all art forms, especially needlework! Gigi is a treasure to the needlework world-many happy birthdays to come!
I am enjoying all of the information you have found about the German Saxony Band Samplers! Gigi samplers are so pretty!
That SDW sampler is stunning! So much interesting information - and I guess I’ll keep stitching all of the parrots 😂! Wonderful video. Thank you!
LOL on the parrots! Thank you for watching!
I really enjoy your Flosstube channel and I love Gigi. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.
Happy 90th birthday Gigi! Another fantastic floss tube, Grace!
Gigi ...what a marvelous floss tube! Thank you so much for sharing all your research regarding European samplers and motif meanings, so interesting. I also am drawn to large samplers, not sure why but oh my, oh my. Thanks again. 💗
Hi Grace, your stitching looks very neat. Have a great week.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the German sampler and Gigi various charts with the common thread of the various symbols and their meaning, very informative!!
Thank you for an enjoyable video and beautiful stitching.Happy stitching
What a wonderful video! i am a history buff and a cross stitcher, knitter, and quilter. I loved all the information you imparted. Now, I am down my own rabbit hole in finding out more about the samplers I am currently stitching. GiGi is one of my favorites.
Thank you! I, too, am a bit of a history buff.
Thank you for another wonderful floss tube!!
So many beautiful patterns from gigi R.
What a wonderful video! I learned so much about all the motifs in samplers. Gigi has beautiful charts and I have a few of her charts. Happy Stitching
Thank you so much for sharing all your research! It is clear from all you showed that Gigi is a prolific designer who has reproduced incredibly meaningful samplers. We are very fortunate to be the beneficiaries of her incredible talent. What a lovely milestone birthday she has reached!
Sooo great Grace!! Thank you for all of the info on the German Samplers. I have definitely added to my list of must haves. I really appreciate all of the research you put into this, I especially love the motif meaning side of things. It makes stitching a sampler almost like decoding a message from the past. Love your videos!!🌹🌹🌹
Thank you so much!!!!!
Thank you for all your research- it was fascinating to hear about the meaning of the sampler motifs. I was very impressed by Sabine’s book - it must be one of the earliest books published with a woman’s name. I have only stitched one sampler by Gigi R - Mary Hunter - she’s at the framer’s now.
I would love to find a small Dutch sampler to stitch - I have a photo of my Dutch great great grandmother - and since she’s the only great great grandmother I have a photo of, I’d like to stitch a sampler in her honor.
I hope to see more of your finishes - I’m very impressed with those long German samplers.
That was an amazing flosstube. Thank you for sharing all the research with us. I have not stitched a Gigi pattern yet but you showed quite a few that I want to stitch.
The best video ever!! I am from German decent-my father being full blood and both grandparents born in Germany. These samplers sure spoke to me also, as do the Gigi samplers. I started Maria, Joseph and The Donkey from GigiR at The Attic as my birthday start for Gigi’s 90th and it is my Sunday stitch. And you have given me a plethora of options from The Scarlet Letter to choose from. I see lots of stitching in my future because of your video!! Thanks!!
Thank you Carlene! I am from German descent, too. Happy stitching!!!
Your stitching is beautiful and thank you for sharing your knowledge about Gigi samplers.
Oh my goodness, was I ever enabled by you today. I finally got a pen and just wrote every pattern down as they were all so Good! Your Flosstube’s are just so informative. Thank you. Gigi R is one of my favourite design companies for sure.
Thank you Beverly!
What a wonderful rabbit hole to fall down. So much information. Very interesting to see the dates of these patterns as Australia was just coming to the world's attention around 1770. And happy birthday, Gigi - you have brought so much joy to our stitching world.
Thank you Gabrielle!
What a joy this morning to see you have a new post. My stitching passion is also euro repros, many Gigi's, so it is satisfying to see another kindred spirit. Thanks so much.
What a wonderful video. I found you through the 'recovering monogamous stitcher's' flosstube and I'm very glad I did. Gigi is a treasure and your work on her patterns is just beautiful.
Thank you Wanda!

Hello from Tennessee! I just found you today and loved all the interesting info!! 💙. I'm learning German and those samplers really caught my attention. I've never seen a Gigi pattern in person. I'd love to stitch one. 😊. Thank you for sharing my morning stitching time with me.
Thank you so much for sharing all these lovely samplers and your interesting research. I enjoyed it very much. Gigi is one of my very favorite designers, not only because her samplers are so beautiful but also because Gigi is the name my children had for my mother. It holds a special place in my ❤.
Thank you for sharing your research on the fascinating symbolism in samplers. Great FT. Congrats on your finish and such gorgeous wips.
First time watching. Thoroughly enjoyed! That GiGi pattern is beautiful!
Thank you!!!
Thank you for sharing your research, it was very interesting and you are stitching some gorgeous samplers. I was very fortunate to meet Gigi at the 2006 Ackworth Seminar and she was such a lovely person with an eventful lifestory.
I would love to meet Gigi R!! Thank you for watching!!!
Gigi. Thank you for all the information you shared with us.
Fantastic flosstube, Grace! I watched it the first time while stitching, now I have to watch it again with a pencil and paper in my hand! I loved seeing your Gigi samplers in person at Autumn of Abundance. I was not terribly familiar with her designs before that, now I am a Gigi devotee. - Susan Taylor
Hi Susan! Thank you for watching!!!
Thanks for sharing the information on German samplers and the Gigi patterns.
Gigi! What an episode!
Grace, what a lovely Flosstube. I always enjoy your FlossTube and this new one was exceptional!
Just watched and now rewatching with notepaper and pen in hand. I need to take notes of all the wonderful information you shared. And I need to take notes about the beautiful Gigi R samplers you showed as well as the samplers from Sabine at European Reproduction Samplers. I see a large ordering taking place!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing all that you have learned! I especially love the Gigi R charts and would love to stitch The Lady in Red Spinning her Wool someday!❤
First time viewer and now subscriber here. I learned so much! Although I am adopted, I know my biological family and know that I have a very German heritage so your information on the German samplers was fascinating. I have stitched a very large Vierlande Sampler and my husband was so impressed, he had it custom framed! I just purchased my first Gigi R chart and it probably won't be the last. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Thank you Desiree! I have Germain heritage as well. I bet your Vierlande sampler is beautiful!!!
I really enjoyed your discussion of sampler motifs. It's something I have been very interested in lately as well. You showed a lot of Gigi R patterns that I have never seen and now I think I'm obsessed.
Thank you Krista!
That you so much for sharing all of your knowledge you have been learning. How interesting it all is! Your work is beautiful
So informative! Thank you. My great grandchildren call me Gigi.😊
I commented earlier. Outstanding information! Gigi patterns are beautiful!!
Thank you for showing your Gigi charts. I think I have crossed the line between stitcher and collector!
I’ve been googling Gigi R patterns during your video. Gorgeous!
Thank you so much for researching the sampler info so you could educate us about them. Truly fascinating information.
Thank you for all your research into Germany Saxony samplers. I am really enjoying it as my some of my ancestors came from Prussia to New Zealand. Great Work.
Thank you so much!!!
Wow! So much information. Thank you for sharing. All the Gigi patterns are fabulous.
Loved listening about all the motifs!
Hello, Grace. Thank you so much for sharing all you learned and the beautiful things you bought and stitched! I love Gigi ! And I was stitching on Anne Auriol as I watched. I have the Morris Dancer kitted as well as the betrothed. I loved seeing glimpses of yours all beautifully stitched.
Thank you Julie! I want to stitch Anne Auriol. Thank you for watching!
Fascinating! So glad your video came up in my “recommended” list. Samplers are one of my favorites, although I’ve never done the research behind them and their motifs. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Thank you for sharing your research and your stitching.
A lovely, informative video. Thank you for doing all that research. Such lovely samplers to stitch. What a blessing to be able to enjoy such beauty in our homes.❤
Very interesting to hear the history of the various motifs. I would imagine that the stitchers that had access to the published images would have to be families of wealth in those times.
Hi Angela, That is a great question. Thank you for watching!
Thank you! I found all your information fascinating! Brenda and Laura told us to watch you and I am so glad I did.
Thank you Nancy! I hope you continue to watch!
Very interesting Sampler info.
Thanks for sharing.
You have a great collection of Sampler patterns.
Gigi
Marilyn
Thank you so much for this fabulous video! It was such fun to learn more about the motifs that are used in samplers!
I loved seeing all the Gigi patterns and love the book recommendations-thank you for your video!
I loved watching your video. You know so much about samplers, it’s unbelievable. As I am German, I am very interested in you showing lots of German samplers. But you also got me interested in Gigi R patterns.🙋🏻♀️
Thank you so much Brigitte!!! I am 1/2 German and am interested in German Samplers.
Thank you Grace, your video was amazing, Brenda and the Serial Stitcher gave us “marching orders” to watch you and they were not wrong. Fabulous.
Thank you!!!
What a lovely interesting video! I recognized so many motifs you mentioned on the various samplers i have stitched over the years. In the 80s i found a book by Jutta Lammers called making samplers. She is german. There were So many wonderful samplers with motifs you mentioned. Also you should look at Historieche Stickmuster. They design many vierlande samplers. I have stitched a gigir sampler. She designed several samplers highlighting alphabet letters. I stitched the letter C. They are beautiful. So many different C’s. With motifs she took from other samplers. Also I am sure you are familiar with Jacob of Modern Folk Embroidery. Thanks again.
