Oh my gosh! I have my first piece from over 50 years ago! My husband has asked me why I haven't framed it and I tell him I like to see just how awful the back looks. I've come a long way since that first piece. Thank you for showing yours.
I was laughing to my husband that it was amazing that I have my first piece and why the heck was it not an ornament yet? I might have to keep it as is as a 'historical object'.

I remember her colorful embroidery of the Japanese ribbon/bow and always wondered how that was accomplished. Enjoyed going through the exhibit and I am amazed there is so much talent in this form of gold/work embroidery. I look forward to more from your floss tube and want to keep on learning (even though I have been stitching for over 50 years already!). Thank you so much!
Shay was so wonderful. Did you know she was originally a scientist? She worked on Salk's vaccine and many of them got sick from the formaldehyde and had to stop working in labs. She told me she took up embroidery while recovering in the hospital. The lives people lead...

The reconstruction of the Broderers' Crown wasn't a commission, it was a research project supported by a grant from the Society of Antiquaries of London and the very capable assistance of friend and fellow tutor Mike Parr. The reconstruction was given to the Broderers' Company when it was completed. I look forward to accompanying you virtually on your travels.

Hi! I’m so happy to have found your channel. Your embroidered box ( for lack of the correct word) is amazing. A labor of love for sure. I also still have my first embroidery project. I designed and stitched at around age 11. Regular yarn on burlap 😊. I’ve only done a few projects since then but I have always been interested. I now have more time and patience so I’m getting back onto stitching. Thanks for the history. 😊

I love your FlossTube debut, Tricia! Just a quick note on the Fishmonger's Pall: this isn't classical Opus anglicanum. It has no underside couching and there is no split stitch. Instead, they used a kind of very fine and regular brick stitch. Splitting the thread was not the aim. The diaper pattern in the background is made with normal surface couching. The embroidery style and design are also heavily influenced by mainland Europe (the Low Countries). I suspect that some parts were possibly made in mainland Europe or embroiderers from there worked on this piece in a London workshop.
Thanks Jessica, The guild had it listed as Opus Anglicanum so I thought the tent was larger as so much was overside couching.

How old were you when you first taught in the guild?
I was about 13. It was a little class to a small subset of the guild members - very sweet of them to take teaching from a kid. Hardanger.
