    Thank you. Good camera work. Also I appreciate your English language skills and patience in explaining the various steps in the process. You remind me of my son in law who lives in Julich.

    A lovely piece of equipment, i recently bought a second hand technics amp from ebay that has a scratchy volume control so will buy some contact cleaner and give this a try.Love watching your videos :).

      Thanks! Be sure to get some suitable stuff (like Deoxit or the Teslanol I am using) so you don't damage the delicate potentiometers. I destroyed quite some gear using too aggressive contact cleaner.

      Thanks for the advice Jan, have just ordered some Teslanol to clean the volume control on my technics amplifier i recently bought :)

    I'm currently listening to my MR-255 i do notice the back end gets warm as I use for many hours and my transformer has covers around the windings on both sides should I take the covers off and clean anyway? no humming just heat.

    Hi, very Nice video. I have exactly that modell and my right speaker do not work. Do you have an idea what the problem is?

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, most common would be a broken output transistor in that channel or a broken speaker relay. You can try tapping on the relay while powered on (mind the high voltages!) and see if you get some crackling or such. Also try if moving the input selector produces any sound on that channel. If nothing is amplified on that channel it's likely faulty transistors.

    Also the heat sink is what really gets HOT not the transformer should I replace those coils?

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The heat sink cools the transistors, it’s normal that they get warm in use. If they get too hot try adjusting the idling current.

    Do you have a list of all caps,resistors,trans. everything you replaced on your MR- 250 I'M in the states and would like to restore my MR-255 SAME UNIT

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a list in the service manual. I didn’t make a list myself as I had most parts in my parts bin.

    Better than I expected inside. I worked on a MR-220 a while back. A real piece of crap. Even on this one, when I see the Masonite bottom cover it just screams CHEAP.

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark Zacharias Yeah, the bottom of the line models of the series are indeed crap. I worked on a MR-215 before and it wasn't really worth the effort I put into it. This one is reasonably built and sounds quite good. Still worlds apart from the "real" Marantz stuff, though.

      I like your work. I'm a retired audio technician and put up a number of repair videos of my own. "Denon AVR-2307 Repair Brief" etc. We can correspond if you like.

      Oh, humbled that you like my work. I used to work as a freelance audio engineer and only have a very basic understanding of the electronics side of things so I might bother you with questions about that in the future. ;) Just subscribed to your channel. I might have watched some of your audio repair videos in the past, I think. Learned a lot of tricks from TH-cam. I'm definitely going to do more audio stuff in the future (at the moment I'm totally hooked on old computers).

    Do you have a list of all Caps and Transistors to be replaced in this unit???

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All parts are listed in the back of the service manual. I don’t have a list at hand, sorry.

    I need to Restore my MR255 What do I need to makem this happen Do I need a Desoldering gun? to replace all Caps?

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A desoldering gun makes things easier. You can also use a hand pump or solder wick/braid though. Just takes even more patience.

    Easiest and worst way to back funcionality for switches and potentiometers. In my opinion :)

    • @JanBeta
      @JanBeta  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience it works very well if the pots and switches are just dirty. It depends largely on what kind of contact cleaner you use, I think. The alternative would of course be desoldering, taking apart and thoroughly cleaning the parts or even putting in new ones. But that also means a lot more mechanical stress and risk of damaging other components.
