    Nice looking amplifier! Nice & clean layout. I had the honor of meeting Saul Marantz in the mid 1970's. He told me they Had to design and build an RF generator to align the 10B tuner. There were no RF generators with the spec's needed to align the tuner. He told me they were thinking of putting the generator on the market. He decided he didn't want to go into test equipment production! The 10B was so advanced for its time! It's still a great Tuner! I got to meet him twice! I'll never forget what a nice man he was and GREAT engineer!!!

    Great video, followed what you did & got my old Marantz 1070 back up & running, sounds great. The amp hadn't been used since the early 90's; I kept it in storage as a back up amp for my present pre-amp/ power amp combo. Well my main power amp is out being serviced so out comes the old Marantz, It was scratchy sounding & the left channel would drop out at times. Cleaned every switch, slider & rotary control with DeOxit5 & it sounds great. Thanks for making this video !! Cheers !

    I noticed that large power transformer. I remember seeing one like that in my Dad's Tube console record player/Radio. The system stopped working so I took the transformer out. An electronics teacher helped me figure out what all the voltages were on the outputs. I don't have it anymore.

    Hello there...quick question...I have a JBL PRX718xlf powered subwoofer model and its having an amplifier problem.....what its doing as when I power the unit up the subwoofer was making like a pop crackling weird type noises...as I disconnect the input from the unit I can hear a slight humming sounds with a little bit of crackling and when I put a input signal to it the sub the sub sounded very low on power and very distorted sounding and when I power the unit off I can hear like a thump sounds thru the sub as well too...I have no idea of why the sub is acting in a strange way and I had it for 2 years and never have any problems with it....and the next day as I took the amplifier out of the box from the sub and tested the sub with another amplifier it work fine with no problem and I knew that there is something wrong with the amplifier itself...Im assuming its the power supply problem going on within the amplifier itself and I have no clue of how to fix it.....I got a video loading up now soon if you like to see it on my channel about the problem.....I just wanna know what should I do.....Thanks.

      I owned a early 70s 1060 marantz and it lasted until about seven years ago when it’s left channel blew. I don’t know how but most likely I shorted it out, by accident. Rest easy old Marantz! It had a very detailed, warm kind of sound coming from the monitor audio speakers I had hooked up. Great video mate!

      One more question: the output of my 1060 is unbalance; the left is louder than the right both through headphones and speakers; and both through the phono and aux input, so I do not think it's necessarily an issue with the preamp. What do you recommend I do to fix this?

    I always turn off any input signal(s) and check for any noise in a pot or switch. With no input, you can hear even the slightest snap, crackle, or pop. Plus you can hear most any transistor that has gone "noisy" (not every time though). But then, I am extremely thorough. I don't like any anomaly. I also insist on at least changing out the main filter capacitors to steady out the ripple as a minimum. Bass will improve remarkably, as well as reducing distortion at higher loads. Electrolytics of that age are just ticking time bombs. The paper inside goes acidic (think of an old newspaper), becomes brittle and can fail catastrophically, or subtly, depending on where the circuit. I have also seen them leak the electrolyte at under 20yrs, corrode, and even eat the PC board away! I am sure you already know all about it, But a lot of people have no clue though about just how much damage can occur when caps fail. The Marantz, and others of these vintage years, deserve the "refresher" to live on! Like the old saying goes; "You can pay me now, or pay me (more) later". ;-)

    I know this has nothing to do with anything, really, but I would guess that the power indicator light would originally appear to be white on the outside? The incandescent bulb would glow yellow and the indicator lens is blue, thus tinting the light white, much like how manufacturers in the past would use colored rubber caps over incandescent bulbs to make them appear the desired color.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the power indicator was blue. Incandescent bulb is white. White light shining though a blue lens gives a blue color, just as with the white LED.
      Incandescent bulbs actually radiate all spectrum, more to the red spectrum when run dim, but they are still much more full spectrum than say LED. White LED actually use blue diodes, and the blue light excites yellow phosphor, which when mixed with the blue gives the appearance of white light.

    • @jonathanlau1221
      @jonathanlau1221 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@12voltvids That's interesting. The reason I thought the indicator might have originally been white was because on my old car, the instrument cluster was illuminated by incandescent bulbs with blue rubber caps on them and they shone through as white. Same with a couple of my older tuner decks with illuminated tuning scales. Well, guess you learn something different every time.
