The (bigger) problem with this is the obvious danger that structural steel beams shooting out of the street at speed will cause, unless you make each extension take like... 30 seconds to complete.
As a life long pedestrian, in the US, I can tell you, NO, cars do not always stop when they are supposed to. I've been hit twice. Cars are always in the crosswalk when they are not supposed to be. I've had several people get out of the car to try to fight me for being "in the way" when I had the right of way.
No one cares about pedestrians. There are several places in cities that you can't get to, because to only way to get there is in a vehicle, and I you don't wanna drive you are screwed. You will get arrested/killed if you try to walk on a road that was not built for people to walk on.
I own horses lol. They are scared of the sudden change of color on the ground. They dont know what it is and they dont want to get hurt. They always try to jump over it. They do the same with small puddles lol

4:00 they still use vehicles similar to these in remote places near the north pole in areas where you can not damage the ground because of endangered species or something. The big balloon tires make it basically float over the snow. The reason you dont see these everywhere is that are very slow. Thats probably the top speed of that vehicle in that clip. Basically they have the giant balloons, but because snow is slippery and spinning tires is considered damaging land, the balloons are free to move up and down on a hinge while the weight of the vehicle rests against the top of the balloon on powered rollers.
