Feels like "The Hateful Eight" is really underrated. Might be my favorite Tarantino movie. The movie might be 3+ hours, but it feels like the movie is shorter because of the suspense.

The animated scenes of O-Ren Ishii backstory is so well done, as a casual anime fan, it's so cool to see that 90s to early 2000s Anime style. All in all well done, and like most Traintino films, the soundtrack is amazing. From Nancy Sinatras My baby shot down, to orens backstory song, and the score. Again kill bill great movie back to back obviously, but vol 1 is.my personal fave.

Of the ones I've seen (including writing credits):
    1: Kill Bill
    2: True Romance
    3: Pulp Fiction
    4: Django Unchained
    5: Reservoir Dogs
6: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
    7: From Dusk Till Dawn
By GOD I love Kill Bill. It ticks so many boxes, some sequences gave me literal chills, every moment of it is dripping with style and substance in equal measure, it's PERFECT. The score, the dialogue, the characters, the performance, the narrative that should go down in history as hands down the GREATEST revenge story ever told. Whenever I need some motivation or inspiration in my writing, I put on Kill Bill in the background, because everything about it reeks of what I want my art to accomplish. My favourite Tarantino movie and quite possibly one of my top 5 favourite movies of all time.

Having not seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood yet, ranking the other 8 films, I'd have to go with:
    1) Django Unchained
    2) Pulp Fiction
    3) Kill Bill vol1 and 2
    4) The Hateful Eight
    5) Jackie Brown
    6) Reservoir Dogs
    7) Inglorious Bastards
    8) Death Proof ( a personal favorite since I once had a 72 Nova SS and my name is Mike!)
    Honorable Mentions:
True Romance, From Dusk Til Dawn and Crimson Tide ( yes he largely wrote that one too)
But I love every one of these films as some of the greatest ever made, because let's be real, Tarantino hasn't made a bad movie in his life, even on his worst day.

  • @HADENOUGH918
    @HADENOUGH918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

One thing not many people say about Tarantino films is how most of his movies are all tied into the same universe with his characters. Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction is definitely tied in if you listen to the dialogue closely.

    • @Keeper_Lock
      @Keeper_Lock 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Reservoir dogs connects to true romance as well because Alabama is mentioned. I'm sure there's a lot more things that connect the movies as well apart from the fictional brands he created

I agree with your takes on The Hateful Eight and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, especially H8. The whole mobie feels like somebody shaking you screaming "Hey, this is a Tarantino movie!!! Hey, hey!! Did you know this is a Tarantino movie?!" It's so self-indulgent it borders on Parody.

All of his films are 4-5 stars in my opinion. i love Tarantino.
    1. Reservoir Dogs- Love the film the dialogue the story the tension it is beautiful
    2. Hateful Eight- He really writes the mostly one location films so damn awesome
    3. Pulp Fiction- So damn fun and creative a great film. many consider his best
*True Romance- Wow some of his best dialogue great story Great acting
    4. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood- Acted perfectly shot beautifully just wonderful fun
    5. Inglorious Bastards- has two of his absolute best scenes and Hans Lander is A+
*From Dusk Til Dawn- Another Movie I love the two different parts merged into one
    * NAtural Born Killers- Crazy and QT is said to hate it but I still think it is GREAT!!
    6. Death Proof- Tarantino doing horror is great and the revenge is ass kicking goodness
    7. Django Unchained- Another Great film don't let the fact that it is low mean i don't love it
    8. Kill Bill- Part one is better than 2 despite it being absurd it is still fun and a great watch
    9. Jackie Brown- It is a great film scored shot and acted magnificently just the weakest QT
*Four Rooms- The QT scene is classic and just a great scene a master class in Film.

  • @seanyonthemic
    @seanyonthemic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I thought I had commented in this lol
I indulged in a Tarantino film watch and I loved it.
    Here’s my ranking:
    1. Django Unchained (2012)-first and only Tarantino film that I’ve seen in theaters, but I love this movie!!! It’s so much fun and has a great story.
    2. Kill Bill Vol 1 (2003)/Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)-enjoyed part 1 the best, but I appreciate part 2 quite a bit now. But as a whole this is second favorite Tarantino film.
    3. Once Upon a Time.....in Hollywood (2019)-every time I watch this, I enjoy it more. It’s a great hangout film. And the characters are enjoyable. Yes, it’s self indulgent movie, but it’s a lot of fun to follow these actors. It’s funny, and the ending is just so much fun. And it’s hilarious and victorious.
    4. Jackie Brown (1997)-after not seeing this movie for years, I feel this one is underrated. It’s small scale and simple and I like that he’s trying someone else’s material while throwing in his whole style. It’s just a relaxing hang out heist movie.
    5. Pulp Fiction (1994)-this film still holds up in the cool factor. It’s the content at times that holds it back. But I do love the revenge that happens in one story and I like how it’s a mixed narrative.
    6. Inglorious Basterds (2009)-when I first saw this film years ago I was disappointed, but over the years I enjoyed it more with the performances. I was just frustrated with the Basterds not being the focal point.
    7. The Hateful Eight (2015)-*extended version is best. The extended version helped me enjoy this film more, but it’s better watch these character in a mini-series form and I enjoyed it more than the full watch through which was hard to sit through for me.
    8. Reservoir Dogs (1992) his first film is excellent, it’s just not one I’d like to revisit a lot.
    9. Death Proof (2007) (It’s dialogue heavy which is fine, I do like getting to know the ladies in the film, Kurt Russell is fantastic, and the long stunt is a lot of fun but it takes too long to get there.

  • @icebergthegamer
    @icebergthegamer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I love every movie of his. I don’t think he’s made a bad movie. With that being said, here is my list
    9. Jackie Brown
    8. Deathproof
    7. Hateful Eight
    6. Once upon a time in Hollywood
    5. Reservoir Dogs
    4. Kill bill
    3. Django
    2. Pulp Fiction
    1. Inglorious Basterds
With 1/2 it all depends on my mood. Pulp fiction is so damn good. Inglorious edges it because its has some of the best writing and filmmaking I have ever seen. The milk scene, the strudel scene, the basement bar, etc just so damn good. It’s his second masterpiece but over time has taken the top billing for me.

I always love your take on film; you do an excellent job reviewing movies, so much so that it makes me reconsider re-watching stuff that I formerly had no interest in returning to. With that said, I'm not really a big fan of QT; his motion pictures usually only warrant a single viewing for me; at most, I watch some of them a handful of times. The only exception is Death Proof, which I love!

Cody Leach no I’m not talking about you when I I wrote that comment. It’s fine if you think it’s a bit long. Hard for me to rank these, as I pretty much love all but two of them. My ranking would be something like this, although I could probably juggle these around slightly, depending on my mood. I could even see OUATIH going even higher in the future.
    9) The Hateful Eight
    8) Django Unchained
    7) Death Proof
    6) Kill Bill (Vol. 1 by itself would be in 4th place, though. Vol. 2 would be below "Death Proof.")
    5) Jackie Brown
    4) Inglourious Basterds
    3) Once Upon a Time In...Hollywood
    2) Pulp Fiction
    1) Reservoir Dogs

I absolutely agree w/your analysis of Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, way too long! Whether I agree or disagree w/your rankings, I find your reasoning is more thought than most. Here's my list:
    1. Django Unchained (Some of my favorite scenes take place between Django and Billy Crash, I think his name is. And, Django referring to him as Moonlight cracks me up every time. I love everyone in this movie Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx and, hey, Leo and Tarantino doing a film together, sign me up!)
    2. Pulp Fiction (This is hard because I love this choice and my third about the same. It's the first Tarantino film I saw and I was blown away. I remember asking is it wrong to like this film? I would say it was definitely a defining moment in filmmaking during the 90s.)
    3. Jackie Brown (You're right, a truly underrated film. Pam Grier is excellent. Samuel L. Jackson is amazing too. So was Robert Forrester. It was like watching a 70s film w/a 90s twist. And, the soundtrack brought me back to the early part of my childhood.)
    4. Kill Bill Volume 1 (I rooted for Uma Thurman because she was a badass chick. Love strong women characters. Need more in films!)
    5. Kill Bill Volume 2 (I like the first volume better because it was a pretty detailed portrait of the characters. I felt this volume was good but, it was also anti-climatic because it mainly filled-in the gaps of the first movie.)
    6. Reservoir Dogs (It was a good introduction of Tarantino as a filmmaker. Not my favorite film but quite a memorable one. Everything from the names, Mr. Pink, Mr. White, to the chopping off of the ear and Tim Roth riding around in the car shot to pieces near the end. Again, a very memorable film.)
    7. Inglorious Bastards (Again, not my favorite film but a memorable one. Brad Pitt was good and so was Christoph Waltz. The reason I put this one above Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is because the length and pacing were on point.)
    8. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (The part where the Manson Children were getting the crap beaten out of them by Brad Pitt and Leo frying one w/a flamethrower made me laugh so hard I cried. Oh, the dog was also good. However, as you said, it meandered in places. Al Pacino's part for me was totally unnecessary and the scene w/Bruce Dern ran way too long. As many have said, more editing would not have hurt this film.)
    9. The Hateful Eight (Unimpressed!)
    10. Death Proof (I didn't see it but, judging by the looks of it, not my type of film.)

I know I'm late to the party, but figured it couldn't hurt to share my rankings.
    1) Kill Bill - Volume 1 was the first Tarantino flick I ever saw, and it was so striking and different from anything I had ever seen. While Volume 2 is a lot slower paced, the dialogue and score were fantastic, and capped off the amazing story perfectly. The fact that so many different film styles coalesced into one fantastic package just puts this movie a cut above anything else in his filmography for me.
    2) Reservoir Dogs - I figured out the mole pretty quickly as well, but this one remains one of my absolute favorites. Mr. Pink is up there as one of my fave characters in a Tarantino movie. Also, unlike a lot of other movie in his filmography, this one is not overly long.
    3) Django Unchained - Liked for the same reasons you did. Only nitpick is the scene where Tarantino is the prospector. That could have been edited down.
    4) Inglorious Basterds - My only knock against this film is that outside of the scene introducing the Basterds, we don't really get to see them all work together as a team. Still, the bar scene is so intense, and who doesn't love seeing Hitler get blown away.
    5) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - Yes, it was self-indulgent, yes, it was over-long, but I loved the characters, and the scenes with Leo DiCaprio and the little girl are some of my favorite scenes in any Tarantino movie. The bonkers ending was a blast, and Brad Pitt's dog darn well nearly stole the picture for me. Love that pooch!
    6) Hateful Eight - Again, only knock on it is that it overstays it's welcome. But great characters and great dialogue put this one in a good spot. I've just never been able to finish it in one sitting.
    7) Pulp Fiction - I think the problem I have with Pulp Fiction is that it got built up so much as a perfect movie before I ever saw it, that while I'm able to recognize how well written, acted and crafted the whole darn thing is, I feel like I should like it more than I actually do. I give it a rewatch about once every two years or so, and sadly, it's just never clicked for me the way it has for others. This isn't to say I dislike it by any stretch of the imagination, I just feel it was a victim of it's reputation.
    8) Death Proof - As the closest thing Tarantino has done to a slasher flick, this movie is a lot of fun. Yeah, it's not at the same level as most of his work, but it wasn't meant to be. A perfectly agreeable film that is a lot of fun.
    9) Jackie Brown - It's fine. It holds my interest, but it certainly the Tarantino movie I enjoy the least.

Its really hard to do a list like this when you love all the movies. It feels disrespectful to place any of these low on the list but i must say i dont get why hateful 8 is always near the bottom of his movies. The atmosphere, the dialogue, the action although limited, the characters, the comedic moments, it all just works for me. I do feel like once upon a time in hollywood was a little disappointing even though i did enjoy it. A lot of that is because it followed hateful 8 which is probably in like 4th place for me

Quentin has been a favorite for some time, his filmography also seems to be very mixed so everyone's list is bound to be different, which is impressive to think about.
    I certainly have my weird opinions towards many of his films;
    8. Inglorious Bastards, I'm not a fan of this one really at all. Probably a personal taste but this one doesn't hit as hard as the others
    7. Reservoir Dogs, sacrilege I know putting it this low, but a mixture of seeing this way later in life and also not being a huge fan of gangster films in general
    6. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, although low, I really love this movie for the fact it being a alternate universe turn on what happened to the actress Sharon Tate. It's fun but not the one I rewatch the most
    5. Jackie Brown, haven't seen this one in a while, but I honestly loved this one a lot
    4. Django Unchained, absolutely adored this movie. The thing that holds this one back from perfection is the random bits of rap music inserted into it, it's very distracting imo. If it weren't for that I'd probably hail this at number 3. But in terms of it's story it's a masterpiece
    3. Pulp Fiction, definitely loved this movie and it's one of the exceptions when it comes to gangster films where I love it. Especially the anthology esc approach to it's storytelling
    2. The Hateful Eight, genuinely loved this movie a lot, loved the intense who-done-it plot as these group of people try to survive the storm
    1. Kill Bill, I could seriously gush about this movie for hours...all day really, so I'll keep it simple by saying this is in my top 10 favorite movies of all time

    2. Reservoir Dogs (hit the ground running)
    3. Django Unchained (when in doubt, Tarantino should go Waltz)
    4. Inglourious Basterds (equal parts hammy and brutal, aka: pulling a Raimi)
    5. Kill Bill (if he kept a more even pace, it'd have been a masterpiece)
    6. Jackie Brown (cast was good, writing was decent, and that's about it)
    7. The Hateful Eight (really surprised me on how good it was, but I also judge it by the extended cut)
    8. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (it's funny, but that's about all that it's really got going for it)
