Which is good, because I only picked mine up this year! Love your channel, the info is spot on and I've learned lots looking back over the past couple of years of your content.
Thanks for the comment Danny and for supporting my channel over the last couple of years. You’ll be able to upgrade the one r with the boost mod and the mounting bracket etc if you wanted to later so definitely a lot of life left in the ONE R.
Brilliant presentation So - let me see if I got i right - if you limit yourself to the boost lense - you are able to edit your videos, using a generic editor, like KDELive or DaVinci Resolve and you also are able to update the camera firmware via the USBMSD interface, which makes the operating system see the camera as a USB-drive ?
Even the 4K mod on the one r has quick flowstate so yes on both the 4K and 4K boost mod you can shoot in mp4 and import files direct via the sd card or by plugging the camera direct via usb. You can drag the firmware file straight to the card or update via the app. I edited the files direct in premiere so the same would apply for Davinci Resolve.
@eat sleep 360 why is your review the most precise and accurate of the one rs. It's informative and easy to understand the difference between the insta one r and rs. I really appreciate your time to get this out quickly. Kudos 👍 king Rich reviewer
Great video thank you!! Were the accessories you covered included with the camera? I've got a OneRS on the way and can't find any links for cold shoe or external mic adapter. Happy to use your affiliate link if you have one! Thanks!
That's a great video. I am confused between GoPro Hero 11 and Insta360 one rs. What would you recommend for travel vloggers? Which extra accessories would you recommend for sports? Thanks in advance.
I prefer the all in one design of the X3 over the RS, more compact and pocket friendly. If you don’t want 360 then go for the hero 11 as this is more robust and simpler to shoot straight out the camera with no editing needed. The RS is a bit of a faff changing lenses so you might want to consider the X3. Extra accessories for sport would include a chest mount and maybe a wrist mount but it really depends what sport you are doing and whether you want it attached to yourself or to your bike, jet ski etc.
GOOD BOY 👏 exhaustive tutorial !! However, I add a DEFECT that I found and I i to check video recordings, the synchronization between action cam and iPhone (latest generation) is out of phase. In other words, the app sometimes delays the shooting and sometimes freezes the recording. It is therefore very difficult 😞 to operate with precision.
Thanks for posting this video so quickly I was very curious to see what this new camera was going to be. Question how does it compare for just doing 360s in comparison to the one X2
Is waterproof on its own or does it need the case like the previous version? I use the 360 Lens a lot so do I now need a special case that accommodates the 360 lens?
Have they fixed the issue with long recordings of more than about an hour where it creates a gap of missing footage of about a minute while it buffers and saves the footage before carrying on recording ? This only because apparent to me after I had done some long recordings and tried to join all the clips together on my OneR
@@EatSleep360 oh wow, crazy! Also the mic adapter is still only mono. It’s as if they haven’t learned or acknowledged the OneR’s shortfalls at all, hardly a worthy upgrade 😞
Excellent video, do you know if fitting the external mic adaptor means the unit is no longer waterproof? Thinking about motovloggers here who mount the camera's to their helmets and run a lavalier mic into the helmet for better audio.
Hi ian, yes still has a 30 min limit and I tested this with the 360 mod and it had something crazy like a 9 second gap between files!!! So still not solved that issue.
Sir. Thank you for this. I would love to see a comparison of this 360 on the RS vs. the Insta360 ONE X2. Just curious if the stitching for one is better than the other because the separation between the lenses are different. Also, if you can discuss the pros and cons of either vs. the other. Edit: I hope Insta360 will start selling the 360 module just in case the original module gets scratched up. That would be a pro for the RS.
Great channel, thanks for your helpful tips... I have been having an issue with the camera recording in portrait rather than landscape and I can't work out how to rotate it when trying to edit the footage so I can show it on my TH-cam channel in the correct orientation! I switched the camera on and started recording before putting the headstrap mount on my head to record my running.
That's a really small incremental update imo. It's like "if you forgot to buy this camera earlier here's a handy reminder". I really hope there will be an affordable 360 camera with bigger resolution in the future. 5.7k is sometimes not enough for crisp reframed shots.
Yes I agree I think they should have just released the mod and the new mounting bracket for the one r - they didn’t really need a new core in my opinion. Even the zoom feature could have been added to the one r.
I agree…the only thing that would maybe entice me to upgrade my Insta360 One R would be a much highest 360 camera to use one my Oculus Quest 2 when making videos from vacations and such
You would need a usbc so if you can create an output from your motorbike battery then this would be possible. You’d have to just check the output so you don’t overload it. On my ebike there’s a usb output on the handlebars so I can use thst.
The easiest way is to remove the micro sd card and use an sd card adaptor and insert it in your laptop or desktop sd card slot. This will show as an external drive on your computer - now open the drive and drag the whole folder called camera 01 to your chosen folder on your desktop. Now open insta360 desktop software and go to import or open file and then search for the folder you just dragged the files to. This is the best way because it means your files are backed up on your computer.
Yes the stabilisation is good but the audio is not very good at all - there is an update coming out soon for this so hopefully it will improve. It’s better with an external mic. Internal mic is ok with no wind and maybe ok on a mountain bike if you’re not going crazy fast and doing crazy stuff.
Thanks for the vid. Well done! I have a question though....im a non user of any of the insta 360 products. So i wonder how does the 1 inch lens fare against the core 48 mp lens. is it any better?
That’s a good question and I haven’t compared to be honest. I would think the larger one inch sensor would help in lower light. I wouldn’t buy either just for their photo capability as I don’t think this is what these cameras do best. If I had to choose the boost or one inch I would go for the boost as it has more features like the active hdr video.
@@EatSleep360 I was looking at noise in the shadows of videos from the one inch sensor…how does it compare to the insta go2 or the regular lens on the RS

Thanks for a comprehensive video. I know some of the Insta360 kits you can buy come with 64Gb microSD but as you said it will take up to 1Tb. So.. I was wondering how much data is there in one battery's worth? does a battery worth of filming etc fill up a 64Gb card? If I bought a second battery for longer filming in the day, would the card be full? Asking as thinking would I would need a bigger than 64Gb card if it is just going to be full is there some space left. Hope this makes sense.. lol. Thanks in advance.
On a 64gb card you’ll get around 1h 20 min shooting in 360 mode. So it’s just over one battery unless you’re using the boosted battery which goes on for 144min
I lost my gopro max last week and my gopro 8 broke down this summer, heard that gopro is not bringing out a new max2... I'm interested in the insta 360 one RS, is it worth it or should I better buy another gopro max? ps; yes I like to have an action cam and also a 360 cam What do you advice?
If you are used to having an all in on camera for 360 and standard shooting then you might find changing the lenses over a bit of a faff. Plus the screen is half the size of the max screen. I would try and test out the X3 or buy another Max if you’re happy with everything it does. The X3 has a tonne more of features but i would say is more vulnerable than the Max. The single lens mode is much better on the X3 and higher resolution. Hope this helps
How do this insta 360 one rs be charge? Can it be charge directly or it has to remove the battery to be charge in a charger. I noticed it has no charging cable included in its bundle.
Thanks for the overview. I do standup comedy and want to improve my filming of my sets. Would this work in such a setting if set at the back of the room (150 audience so not that far away, maybe 15m)? The stage is bright but the audience largely in the dark. Interested in the sound in such a situation (I do have a Comica wireless mic that I could use. Not sure if that then would mean the audience response would not be picked up as well). At present I use a simple camcorder.
If there’s a PA system it would probably be ok that far back. Yeah if you used a wireless mic then it might not pick up the audience as well. Using an external mic is expensive as you need to buy 3 accessories to make it work. But if you don’t have a PA system the sound will probably be quite roomy and distant from 15m away. Buy it from Amazon and it will be easy to take back if it doesn’t work. Just shoot in standard video mode if the stage is bright. use a narrow field of view so the stage fills the frame otherwise it will be crazy wide. Shoot in 4k and you’ll be able to crop in a bit more when you edit if you need to. You could consider using two cameras so zoom in with your camcorder and get a wider shot including the audience with the ace pro. Experiment with pure shot mode to see if you can expose the stage and audience at the same time. Two cameras is more editing but depends what you want it for as to whether it’s worth your time. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the video Rich. Oh I was looking for the audio improvement, but is is quite disappointing. I have One X2, but just don't use its audio even with my Rode Wireless Go II it is quite bad. If I really need it, I capture the audio externally and merge on post production.
Hi Rich , today I saw the announcement of the new One RS. I currently have the One R Twin ed. and what I use the most is the 360 module in normal light conditions. Insta360 says the new One RS is compatible with the old One R. According to you, does it make sense to buy the new core, or the new 360 module, or both, or directly sell the whole One R and buy the new One RS? What would you do ? Greetings from Barcelona. Thanks to clear this for me!
Hi Marcelo, the 360 mod is exactly the same and the new core isn’t worth the upgrade if you already have the one r especially if you only do 360 stuff. The new boost mod is great if you particularly need active hdr or 6k widescreen otherwise stick with what you have. Hope this helps
That’s a good point yes it’s much easier with winter gloves than the one r. The X2 is easy for stop start recording with gloves but not so easy for battery changes.
Aawwww I was waiting for YOUR review, REALLY nice as always!! Scobby still looks perky!! ...But something - having the OneR - that I was wondering... The studio labs with the new features will work with the R or just the RS? Another thing that got me curious, why the bigger battery? The RS consumes more power? If you put the one R battery on it, will last the same as the R? ouch, sorry too many questions at once... 🤪 *I liked the new mic adapter, retrofit to the OneR? 🤔
I would say no - all the new bits work with the One R so you could just upgrade all the accessories if you have it already. Active HDR and the bigger sensor is good with the boost lens but the images are only marginally better in the tests so far.
@@EatSleep360 This is why I subscribe to you and watch all your videos. You are NOT a corporate shill. Your honesty is refreshing as are your reviews. Thanks for all that.
Lovely camera and if its predecessor didn't exist would be unbelievable. However, the 360 1R does exist so this appears (to me at least) as a bridge to the next release. Cheers for more excellent content👍
Yes but there have been a lot of reports from buyers having issues with the previous one r camera in water and I think it’s because there are so many different bits being pushed together. Have a look at some insta groups on facebook to research a bit more. I would use it underwater with a dive case but otherwise wouldn’t risk it.

Disappointed I thought it would be a new camera not a revamped version of the one Insta camera that I have always had freezing problems with (Camden Market 4 freezes in 15 minutes) Insta One X, One X2 and Go no problem at all so I won't be buying this one, Thanks for the video anyways
Tired of the GOPRO illusion. Selling cameras that overheat and destroy memory cards. I got the One RS because at 24 FPS the camera doe not overhead and keeps on till the batteries run out.
Less than impressed I’m afraid. Not enough for me to upgrade, what everybody wants is 8K 360 or greater, not a new sensor in the action cam. Why has 360 stalled at 5.7k, not just insta but GoPro as well.
Yes it is strange why it’s stalled around that figure. I agree It’s definitely not worth upgrading from the one r but a great buy if you are just entering the 360 action cam world.
I am UPSET with This sh##t camera (INSTA360 OneR). 3rd time It stopped working. I sent It 2 times to Solectric. It worked 1 hour and then It stopped again!!! I have 2 Gopros and never had any issues. The Camera, again, cannot record or take photos anymore and ti switch It Off I have to hold the Power Button during 20 seconds!!! I am very angry with Insta!!! There is no HARD RESET Button with is crazy for a camera that is 100% dependant on a software. Am I the only one? :( 😌😌
To get instas attention the best place is on their Facebook group - everyone will see it and if you tag them they usually respond - sorry to hear you’ve had problems
@@EatSleep360 Thanks. I have seen on Reddit that I am not the only one with this issue after the update of the last firmware. INSTA should IMPLEMENT a HARD RESET Button. I have 2 Garmin. I would try and test out the X3 or buy another Max if you’re happy with everything it does. The X3 has a tonne more of features but i would say is more vulnerable than the Max. The single lens mode is much better on the X3 and higher resolution. Hope this helps
I wonder if the Vivid color profile (like on One X2) will be introduced in 360 video on the One RS Core or in an update of the One R firmware.
How do this insta 360 one rs be charge? Can it be charge directly or it has to remove the battery to be charge in a charger.
I noticed it has no charging cable included in its bundle.
It can be charged directly and kept on the camera or you can buy a fast charger separately which charges two batteries.
Can the RS be used while it’s on a charger? Also can it be charging while there is an external mic hooked up?
Yes to both - the mic adaptor has another usbc socket

Can I use SanDisk Extreme 1 TB MicroSDXC UHS Class 3 160 Mbps Memory Card on this camera/ quick transfer device?
I’m not sure what the spec of the quick reader is but class 3 is v30 I think so this should be fine as it’s the same suggestion for the camera itself
@@EatSleep360 yes it's V30
@@EatSleep360 Many thanks. This is really helpful. You do, though, mention the Ace Pro. Are you suggesting that over the One RS?
Can you use the new mic adapter with the One R?
Good question, I’ll test this out
Any updates on this? Is it working on the One R?
@@taraviaje The website was updated and it showed that the new mic adapter is not compatible with the One R. Only for the One RS.
Dear,
Can One R boosted battery be work with new one RS??
Yes it can
Thanks for the video Rich. Oh I was looking for the audio improvement, but is is quite disappointing. I have One X2, but just don't use its audio even with my Rode Wireless Go II it is quite bad. If I really need it, I capture the audio externally and merge on post production.
Thanks - I did push the audio in the wind and will do some more tests soon
I have a lot of squeaky noises with the one r from just changing my grip. How is it with the one rs?
There will always be handling noise with these cameras but to be honest I haven’t compared this - I’ll make a note for my comparison video
one query, worth upgrade from one x2 ? specially since one x2 is lighter
I prefer the one x2 as I like an all in one camera that’s lighter and smaller
@@EatSleep360 that means i could not improve video quality on 360 shots? Even changing the core module? Then i keep my old One R !
@@EatSleep360 thank you so much for such honest answer !
@@marcelogrosman if it is better it is so small you would not notice for most shots in my opinion

better case to ve used with winter gloves right? i mean i bought the x2 since the oner was very poor but the x2 i think is even worse
That’s a good point yes it’s much easier with winter gloves than the one r. The X2 is easy for stop start recording with gloves but not so easy for battery changes.
@@EatSleep360 na.... forget it... big winter gloves with the x2 forget it...
*I liked the new mic adapter, retrofit to the OneR? 🤔
The shot lab effects are for R and RS, the rs core uses more power apparently. I’m testing the mic adaptor today with the one r and rode wireless go.
Maybe I'm missing something, but is the value there over the One R for over 500 to over 800 USD?
I would say no - all the new bits work with the One R so you could just upgrade all the accessories if you have it already. Active HDR and the bigger sensor is good with the boost lens but the images are only marginally better in the tests so far.
@@EatSleep360 This is why I subscribe to you and watch all your videos. You are NOT a corporate shill. Your honesty is refreshing as are your reviews. Thanks for all that.
@@DannyFyffe thanks Danny, much appreciate the comment and support
Lovely camera and if its predecessor didn't exist would be unbelievable. However, the 360 1R does exist so this appears (to me at least) as a bridge to the next release. Cheers for more excellent content👍
Thanks Paul, yes I hear what you’re saying - I think insta should have just released the boost lens and an updated cage, no need for the new core.
Is it waterproof without any case especially the 360 lens
The case tightens it all together and insta360 say it’s not waterproof without the case
@@EatSleep360 by case are you referring to the mounting bracket or I need to purchase a separate waterproof housing case?
Can the 4K mod do horizon levelling?
It doesn’t look like it but may come in an update - I think this happened with the one r
My New 360 One RS is freezing up after 2 minutes and 12 seconds. The files are corrupted. How do I fix this? Have you had this problem?
Usually it’s slow memory card - make sure you use a v30 card that is a sandisk or lexar or similar quality brand
@@EatSleep360 The card meets the spec but I will try another card to see if this eliminates the error. Thanks for the help.
If I purchase the one RS in 32 can it be upgraded to 64 later?
You are thinking of the GO2 which has memory built in - the ONE RS takes a separate memory card 👍🏼
Is the 360 lense also waterproof?
Yes but there have been a lot of reports from buyers having issues with the previous one r camera in water and I think it’s because there are so many different bits being pushed together. Have a look at some insta groups on facebook to research a bit more. I would use it underwater with a dive case but otherwise wouldn’t risk it.

Buena actuación si señor
How did u do the last few secs of the video? You calling the next person that's you and it keeps repeating... Lol
Haha that’s one of the effects you can do in the Insta360 app - it’s just one shot and the app processes it for you
Disappointed I thought it would be a new camera not a revamped version of the one Insta camera that I have always had freezing problems with (Camden Market 4 freezes in 15 minutes) Insta One X, One X2 and Go no problem at all so I won't be buying this one, Thanks for the video anyways
Thanks for watching - I understand your disappointment

If they would ugrade to 8k 360 everybody would complain, that their hardware can't handle it 🤷
Its not really waterproof without acase . Its getting water from inside which will lead it to be destroyed very soon
Too many Lego parts. I just can't.
Yes I understand, that’s why I prefer the one x2
It can happen that after you install a new firmware it crashes...but they have a HARD Reset button so...I can downgrade the firmware and start to use them again. NO possible with Insta. If the software crashes you are FuXXX! Thanks
