    I find these videos really helpful, especially because otherwise you only find videos with the 360° or 1 inch lens and rarely any with the standard lens. Thanks for this

    Thank you for this video. This is the first time that I seen your channel and just purchased the One RS. I find it a bit overwhelming as it is the first action camera that I have purchased. After watching most others channels, I greatly appreciate your patient and descriptive explanation of what you recommend and why you recommend it. I will primarily use the unit on my motorcycle but I plan to watch other videos you produce and rewatch this one many times (and pause as I make changes in my unit). Thank you very much.

    Thank you for the video. For a new user of Insta360, your video is the most helpful one compared to other videos I've watched so far on youtube. One question is, does the tracking function in the insta360 app work on videos taken by the One RS with 4K boost lens? I use the camera to shoot dance videos in indoor settings. So the target object will be moving and the tracking feature will be convenient. I am comparing this One RS with the 360 with 1 inch sensor. I hesitate on the 1 inch one since it's more complicated to edit 360 videos in post production...but I am sure the tracking function works on 360 videos,

    Great video and explanations! One thing though....at about 09:46 you state that if you set the ISO at 800, and the scene is brighter, the camera will adjust the ISO downward (say to 100). I have tested this out, and it seems if you set it at manual and 800, it will stay there no matter what. Is there a setting I am missing???

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. I will revisit this aspect to confirm that. If this is the case now (perhaps after the newest firmware this has changed) then I would recommend setting the ISO to Auto while still setting the other settings as shown in this video.

      Unfortunately, I watched this video, changed the ISO settings and then went out to record a video (Extreme Sandbox) operating an excavator, and all of the footage was unusable. If you could - it would be worth putting a correction (text overlay) on the video so this doesn't happen to anyone else. Great video otherwise!!

      I had the same experience. The manual/auto setting at the top applies to both SS and ISO at the same time (not individually). I would suggest manual mode, setting ISO to 100 and then selecting a SS of “Auto”?

  • @RobFisherUK
    @RobFisherUK ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lots of good tips here. I do think that "cinematic" (per the title) implies a 180 degree shutter, though, not auto. So you would set the shutter to 1/60 for 30fps or 1/48 for 24fps. Higher shutter speeds are going to look "action-cam-like" rather than "cinematic". The down-side is you have to take care with image stabilisation because digital stabilisation (as opposed to stabilisation that works by moving the lens or the sensor) can cancel the motion but it won't cancel the blur, so you end up with random blurry frames if there's a lot of stabilised motion.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes indeed. The reason I could not suggest the 180 degree rule though is because this camera did not appear to have any ND filters for it at the time and without ND filters those shutter speeds of 1/48 and 1/60 would only be usable in low lighting. You are also correct about electronic image stabilization and the need for crisp, sharp frames with faster shutter speeds for EIS to function properly.

    • @RobFisherUK
      @RobFisherUK ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GreatDayForAHike oh good point about the ND filter. ISO can only go so low.

    GOOD BOY 👏 exhaustive tutorial !! However, I add a DEFECT that I found and I i to check video recordings, the synchronization between action cam and iPhone (latest generation) is out of phase. In other words, the app sometimes delays the shooting and sometimes freezes the recording. It is therefore very difficult 😞 to operate with precision.

    Brilliant video, there is one thing I disagree with, using a 24-frame timeline, will not be smooth when adding 100 frame rate footage as frames will have to be dropped, the simple solution is to change to 25 frames as your filming rate and use a 25 frame timeline because 100 / 25 = 4, whereas 100 / 24 = 4.166 and for smooth playback framerates must be multiples of the timeline framerate or frames will be dropped to compensate.
    All The Best... Ken

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you have a valid point with this. It’s unfortunate the Insta360 One RS does not have 120 frames per second available. If it did that would translate nicely on a 4K timeline. Thank you for your feedback!

      First of all, great price you got this for. You can set the horizon lock setting on the camera, but you do have to use the studio app or phone app in post to apply the horizon lock. You do have to first change the setting to "post" on the camera.

  • @Drunken_Hamster
    @Drunken_Hamster ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The single most versatile video setup would be 50fps with a locked 1/60th of a second shutter. This will film in any country without any flicker. It will provide smooth natural looking HFR for vlogs and reality-type content, while you can also just drop half the frames for """cinematic""" content and the motion blur won't be too much sharper than it should be at 1/60 compared to 1/48 or 1/50. You can also just slow it down 2x for slow motion within a 50p timeline without having to change to a dedicated slow-motion setup, it'll just have more motion blur than it needs for slowed footage.
    Though I have a question about the anti-flicker thing... Does it lock you out of shutter speeds and/or frame rates that would conflict with the region you select, or does it do some other voodoo to allow any shutter speed and frame rate combination in any region?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your feedback and the details you shared.
      My understanding is the anti-flicker simply controls which frame rates are allowed to be selected in the menus.

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GreatDayForAHike Is there any way to turn off that mode and allow all frame rates at once? I typically like 50/100 for dedicated slowmo and 30 for general recording, but I'd hate to have to go into 2.5 menus to change it.

    I recorded some videos in the 6k wide screen mode with the settings that you recommended. For some reason when I put my SD card into my laptop and watch the video in Intsa360 studio it lags and has very low quality?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re watching these videos directly from the MicroSD card this is normal. High-quality video files like this will usually not play directly from the MicroSD card due to the bitrate. You’ll typically need to copy them to your computer first before playing. You’ll also want to make sure you are watching the video file and not the preview file. These can easily get mixed up due to the file naming structure being similar between the two.
