Well the only songs we had knowledge of were Dynamite and Butter, and they really didn’t resonate with us, so we just checked out other groups/artists that did draw our attention first. Plus we haven’t even been a channel for a year yet 😂, and it just happened that we chose to do a deep dive week so we said screw it let’s check them out, and see if we like what we hear or not no matter what people’s comments are. And as you saw we liked the songs so stay tuned for a Vol. 2 in the near future

Me too. I think I enjoy BTS rap line because they have that OG hip-hop sound from the 80s, 90s and the lyrics, like then, talk about significant things. I find today’s rappers, with some exceptions, to be mediocre rappers with boring, uninventive lyrics, and monotone flows. That’s my opinion who grew up with Tupac, Dr. Dre, and Eminem.
these comments make me cringe because intentional or not, it reeks of anti-blackness because you're trying to tell me that NONE of the inventors of the genre were able to ever catch your attention, but BTS (who are amazing rappers too) do it for you and only BTS? and this goes for sharon below as well. Especially when only naming mainstream rappers, but trying to speak on such a diverse and creative movement as hip-hop. It's disappointing given that if BTS can make such great music, it is because these rappers y'all don't like have inspired them.
@@Igotdapowa I think this is more a factor of age and cultural relevance. Rap is a very young genre. I grew up before the internet existed. I was in high school when rap was in it's infancy as a movement. When I was exploring popular and modern music it was by going to clubs and shows in my area, and those were mainly punk and rock shows and clubs, or buying vinyl records of Iron Butterfly and Quiet Riot and The Beatles, or listening to the radio. If there were clubs where rap was happening around me, I didn't know where they were. Some of it percolated through to me as the movement started to influence the larger culture and musical crossovers happened or artists broke big with hits, especially when MTV became a thing. But I was not really a student of music and I never followed or deep dove an artist before in my life the way I have with BTS. I just enjoyed music and going to shows and listening to stuff, which is quite a diverse range from classical and jazz and big band to folk and doo-wop and Motown and early rock to metal and forays into things like EDM, Navajo flute and Turkish pop. In my collection now, I have CDs of Metallica and Mozart, Journey and Glenn Miller, Baroque chamber music and Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone, AC/DC and Erykah Badu and Ella Fitzgerald. Later, after I was out of school, I was not paying much attention to popular music in general through the late 80s, 90s and 00s as I was busy being a working adult and getting married and raising my kids. Ask me about 90s kids shows and I can answer questions, but I also completely skipped over the whole "boy band" era and most of the popular artists from that time period in general. I was not just ignoring rap. Rap just happened to be developing and spreading during those decades. Rap also spoke to a cultural reality that was not mine. I recognize rap's value as a medium that was speaking truth to power and giving a voice to a largely voiceless minority, underrepresented in the general culture. But it was hard for me to identify or find messages in it that resonated with my own experiences. I'm grateful to BTS for making this art form more accessible to me by speaking on messages that resonate with me now and opening their appreciation and love of the genre to me in a way for me to be able to start appreciating it myself. This was Yoongi's goal, to spread appreciation for the genre, and he achieved it in spades. Exploring BTS's work has allowed me to learn the aspects of rap, about rhyme schemes and cadences and flows and beats, of the voice as percussion, and begin to have an understanding of an art form that just never crossed my reality before.

You guys are going to have a lot of suggestions for what to watch when you do another deep dive on these guys so enjoy the journey! For me what sets BTS apart from other groups is their lyrics. They seem to reach out on a deeper level than other groups. The two recommendations from me will be the 2019 MMA awards and the Taylor guide to BTS when you are done with your deep dive. Oh this was so entertaining. They got me just like this. I clicked on 1 mv and it's been 5 years already 🥲 Bighit is both BTS and TXT's agency. No other group The thing is Dynamite and Butter are songs made during pandemic to make army happy or feel a bit joy. They are fun, radio friendly and have english lyrics. So, to outsiders those are the songs through which general public(of western market) recognizes bts. That kinda breaks armys' hearts because bts discography actually goes above and beyond. At least 90% of their lyrics, concepts etc. are super deep. No shade to dynamite or butter because they served their purpose immensely. It's just what bts contributed the least amount of their artistry becoming the cover story of their journey is kinda disheartening

Fun Fact, DNA (title track) was the first song they performed on TV in the USA. On November 19, 2017, BTS became the first Korean boy band to perform at the AMAs, performing their song "DNA". The performance was a shock to many viewers, and the fan chants were so loud that the background noise was muted in the recording. Also, Mic Drop is from the same album Love Yourself: Her, and they performed that song as well at numerous talk shows in the same year. Fake Love is the title track for the second album in the Love Yourself Series, Love Yourself: Tear, and they actually debuted the performance at the Billboard Music Awards. The debut performance of "Fake Love" at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards received positive reviews from critics. And Love Yourself: Tear was their first album to hit number 1 on the BB Album 200 list. They reached 3 number 1's in under a year, and broke the Beatles' record. Black Swan, was the pre-release for their Map of the Soul (MOTS): 7 (2020) album, which is the song that made me BTS ARMY. MOTS: 7 had the highest sales Globally for the year of 2020, Globally, for any album that year. That album has some of my favorite songs.

There is so much more to BTS than just the surface sonic experience of the music and dance. Also, for their musical diversity and choreography you have not even scratched the surface. They are also that rare type of artist who are better live than in their recordings. And all 7 of them are superstars of rare talent and incredible stage presence. They really are incomparable. They really are a once in a lifetime group. They all write, compose and produce their music, but especially the three rappers. They are really hip hop at their core and carry those values of speaking truth to power, raw and autobiographical lyricism, strong beats and complex wordplay into all their work. Their lyricism is famous for it's depth and layers. They have always self-directed their own careers. They are inspired by visual arts, philosophy, psychology, science, literature, mythos and religions, various cultures, current events and more and they cover topics like socio-political and socio-economic issues, mental health, rage as a powerful tool for change, grief, alienation and loneliness, their own fears and perceived faults, as well as love in all it's forms, joy, self-love, hope and positivity. Their songs and albums follow their own lives and tell their own personal stories through the years. They also incorporate a deep and layered supernatural fictional storyline called the Bangtan Universe/BU into their work which is revealed in clues in MVs (those snickers are a story clue) short films, lyrics, webtoons, books, their mobile game BTS World, album notes and more. They were the first to do this type of deep lore. There is also a KDrama now based on their storyline called Youth - Begins. They were the first to make their own variety show, because the industry shunned and mistreated them. The amazing thing with BTS is that their songs and performances really come alive when they perform live. You know the difference between mv-ateez and live-ateez? That's the level of difference. You've got some serious fun ahead of you with BTS, promise. A lot of their songs have a motif and some serious life related questions and philosophy theories in them. A favorite song of mine I think you'd like is blood sweat and tears, and some of their rap heavy songs you'd enjoy are Ddaeng, Ugh and Silver Spoon, I think. All of these are very fun to watch a cultural explanation of, since all of rapline (Rm, Suga and J-Hope) is very into metaphors and double meanings/wordplays. I’m so glad the streaming version of Mic Drop has an outro past where the MV ends ‘cause the bridge builds it up and it’s so cathartic to actually have a drop lol Edit; for Fake Love, a lot of the elements of the music video tie into their Bangtan Universe storyline-in particular, the snickers and the carousel figurines with J-Hope tie into his character’s past, which is as much as I can say without spoiling it for you or others here in the comments section lol
I was going to do it but somebody in the comments gave you information on what BTS means somebody else probably did but BTS fandom name is army and it means adorable representative in fees for youth. Everything in the fake love music video relates to the BANGTAN UNIVERSE a fictional storyline that runs through BTS music videos and albums everything in the video relates to the storyline for example the Snickers candy bars J hope is laying on top of them in the storyline when he was a little kid his mother abandoned him at an amusement park and only left him with one Snickers candy bar. Everything in the earlier music videos is practical no green screens no CGI they started using CGI prominently during the pandemic. In the music video for fake love the hallway with the flashing lights on the walls those are cell phones on the wall in one segment the music video the words save me if they're turned upside down it says I'm fine the title of another BTS song. The song Black Swan is about BTS's fear of losing their inspiration to make music and the fear of losing their joy in making music.

Great reaction. It has been three years since I became full ARMY, and I like to watch reactions, because I still see things in the MVs that I had not noticed before. BTS just deliver 10/10s in every category over and over. For a peak at their early stuff, check out the Dance Practice for Danger. The choreography is insane, and they kill it.

All the suggested songs are fantastic but I might suggest watching mvs for their debut song, No More Dream and We are Bulletproof Pt 1. Having seen some work from the middle of their career, it would be a good time to see where they came from. In spite of being from a company that was working on a shoestring budget, they went hard back then, and that continues to this day through their solo work and now solo activities starting with Jin who is the only member who has been discharged from the military, at least for the next 3 weeks until j-hope gets discharged.
Thats the thing about BTS their songs/mv and performances goes 100% the entire time. Many other kpop songs seems clipped together like its 4+ different songs combined for every member to get some screentime. Often you only like a hook or bridge the rest are just meehhh. But BTS songs are on a new level.

Also, if you want to see just how good BTS are, watch a live version of Idol such as the MMA 2018 performance. There are videos showing how much the stage shakes for some performances!

Great variety, whoever gave you guidance on this opening set did well! Hopefully for part 2 they’ll suggest On Kinetic Manifesto, a ballad like The Truth Untold (live), maybe an earlier one like Dope or Fire, and an incredible cinematic experience like Blood Sweat & Tears. Oh and Festa 21 Live! (Oh and Airplane Pt 2…and Idol…) You’ll need at least 5 deep dives to scratch the surface, including 1 solo from each, where the rapline will blow your minds, and you’ll experience Jimin, V and Jin more fully (since you already know JK). 😅

Well the only songs we had knowledge of were Dynamite and Butter, and they really didn’t resonate with us, so we just checked out other groups/artists that did draw our attention first. Plus we haven’t even been a channel for a year yet 😂, and it just happened that we chose to do a deep dive week so we said screw it let’s check them out, and see if we like what we hear or not no matter what people’s comments are. And as you saw we liked the songs so stay tuned for a Vol. 2 in the near future

48 year old here who loves BTS and metal rock music. As someone who doesn’t like hip hop or rap, yet I love BTS’ rap and hip hop only … I cannot explain it other than they are THAT amazing.
Me too. I think I enjoy BTS rap line because they have that OG hip-hop sound from the 80s, 90s and the lyrics, like then, talk about significant things. I find today’s rappers, with some exceptions, to be mediocre rappers with boring, uninventive lyrics, and monotone flows. That’s my opinion who grew up with Tupac, Dr. Dre, and Eminem.

I think this is more a factor of age and cultural relevance. Rap is a very young genre. I grew up before the internet existed. I was in high school when rap was in it's infancy as a movement. When I was exploring popular and modern music it was by going to clubs and shows in my area, and those were mainly punk and rock shows and clubs, or buying vinyl records of Iron Butterfly and Quiet Riot and The Beatles, or listening to the radio. If there were clubs where rap was happening around me, I didn't know where they were. Some of it percolated through to me as the movement started to influence the larger culture and musical crossovers happened or artists broke big with hits, especially when MTV became a thing. But I was not really a student of music and I never followed or deep dove an artist before in my life the way I have with BTS. I just enjoyed music and going to shows and listening to stuff, which is quite a diverse range from classical and jazz and big band to folk and doo-wop and Motown and early rock to metal and forays into things like EDM, Navajo flute and Turkish pop. In my collection now, I have CDs of Metallica and Mozart, Journey and Glenn Miller, Baroque chamber music and Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone, AC/DC and Erykah Badu and Ella Fitzgerald.
Later, after I was out of school, I was not paying much attention to popular music in general through the late 80s, 90s and 00s as I was busy being a working adult and getting married and raising my kids. Ask me about 90s kids shows and I can answer questions, but I also completely skipped over the whole "boy band" era and most of the popular artists from that time period in general. I was not just ignoring rap. Rap just happened to be developing and spreading during those decades.
Rap also spoke to a cultural reality that was not mine. I recognize rap's value as a medium that was speaking truth to power and giving a voice to a largely voiceless minority, underrepresented in the general culture. But it was hard for me to identify or find messages in it that resonated with my own experiences. I'm grateful to BTS for making this art form more accessible to me by speaking on messages that resonate with me now and opening their appreciation and love of the genre to me in a way for me to be able to start appreciating it myself. This was Yoongi's goal, to spread appreciation for the genre, and he achieved it in spades. Exploring BTS's work has allowed me to learn the aspects of rap, about rhyme schemes and cadences and flows and beats, of the voice as percussion, and begin to have an understanding of an art form that just never crossed my reality before.
Same! 51 year old rock and metalhead from UK. Never liked rap/hip hop, couldn't relate to it, but BTS opened my eyes because the lyrics were relatable and they are so good.
You guys are going to have a lot of suggestions for what to watch when you do another deep dive on these guys so enjoy the journey! For me what sets BTS apart from other groups is their lyrics. They seem to reach out on a deeper level than other groups.
The two recommendations from me will be the 2019 MMA awards and the Taylor guide to BTS when you are done with your deep dive. Neither will disappoint.

The thing is Dynamite and Butter are songs made during pandemic to make army happy or feel a bit joy. They are fun, radio friendly and have english lyrics. So, to outsiders those are the songs through which general public(of western market) recognizes bts. That kinda breaks armys' hearts because bts discography actually goes above and beyond. At least 90% of their lyrics, concepts etc. are super deep. No shade to dynamite or butter because they served their purpose immensely. It's just what bts contributed the least amount of their artistry becoming the cover story of their journey is kinda disheartening

Fun Fact, DNA (title track) was the first song they performed on TV in the USA. On November 19, 2017, BTS became the first Korean boy band to perform at the AMAs, performing their song "DNA". The performance was a shock to many viewers, and the fan chants were so loud that the background noise was muted in the recording. Also, Mic Drop is from the same album Love Yourself: Her, and they performed that song as well at numerous talk shows in the same year.
Fake Love is the title track for the second album in the Love Yourself Series, Love Yourself: Tear, and they actually debuted the performance at the Billboard Music Awards. The debut performance of "Fake Love" at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards received positive reviews from critics. And Love Yourself: Tear was their first album to hit number 1 on the BB Album 200 list. They are also that rare type of artist who are better live than in their recordings. And all 7 of them are superstars of rare talent and incredible stage presence. They really are incomparable. They all write, compose and produce their music, but especially the three rappers. They are really hip hop at their core and carry those values of speaking truth to power, raw and autobiographical lyricism, strong beats and complex wordplay into all their work. Their lyricism is famous for it's depth and layers. They have always self-directed their own careers. They are inspired by visual arts, philosophy, psychology, science, literature, mythos and religions, various cultures, current events and more and they cover topics like socio-political and socio-economic issues, mental health, rage as a powerful tool for change, grief, alienation and loneliness, their own fears and perceived faults, as well as love in all it's forms, joy, self-love, hope and positivity. Their songs and albums follow their own lives and tell their own personal stories through the years. They also incorporate a deep and layered supernatural fictional storyline called the Bangtan Universe/BU into their work which is revealed in clues in MVs (those snickers are a story clue) short films, lyrics, webtoons, books, their mobile game BTS World, album notes and more. They were the first to do this type of deep lore. There is also a KDrama now based on their storyline called Youth - Begins. They were the first to make their own variety show, because the industry shunned and mistreated them. I was going to do it but somebody in the comments gave you information on what BTS means somebody else probably did but BTS fandom name is army and it means adorable representative in fees for youth.
Everything in the fake love music video relates to the BANGTAN UNIVERSE a fictional storyline that runs through BTS music videos and albums everything in the video relates to the storyline for example the Snickers candy bars J hope is laying on top of them in the storyline when he was a little kid his mother abandoned him at an amusement park and only left him with one Snickers candy bar. Everything in the earlier music videos is practical no green screens no CGI they started using CGI prominently during the pandemic. In the music video for fake love the hallway with the flashing lights on the walls those are cell phones on the wall in one segment the music video the words save me if they're turned upside down it says I'm fine the title of another BTS song.
The song Black Swan is about BTS's fear of losing their inspiration to make music and the fear of losing their joy in making music.

Great reaction. It has been three years since I became full ARMY, and I like to watch reactions, because I still see things in the MVs that I had not noticed before. BTS just deliver 10/10s in every category over and over. For a peak at their early stuff, check out the Dance Practice for Danger. The choreography is insane, and they kill it.
Love your reactions ❤ you'd be blown away by their live performances. They are one of the first kpop groups to sing live while doing those crazy choreos on stage. Try: 2018 MMA award and then 2019 MMA award (most legendary)
All the suggested songs are fantastic but I might suggest watching mvs for their debut song, No More Dream and We are Bulletproof Pt 1. Having seen some work from the middle of their career, it would be a good time to see where they came from. In spite of being from a company that was working on a shoestring budget, they went hard back then, and that continues to this day through their solo work and now solo activities starting with Jin who is the only member who has been discharged from the military, at least for the next 3 weeks until j-hope gets discharged.
Thats the thing about BTS their songs/mv and performances goes 100% the entire time. Many other kpop songs seems clipped together like its 4+ different songs combined for every member to get some screentime. Often you only like a hook or bridge the rest are just meehhh. But BTS songs are on a new level.

You need to see their choreo for Fake Love in full. It is cut so much in the MV that you miss some cool moves. Watch the dance practice. Also, if you want to see just how good BTS are, watch a live version of Idol such as the MMA 2018 performance. There are videos showing how much the stage shakes for some performances!
Ive been a kpop fan since 2016 Bts was my first kpop group that I listen too and loved (and they are the group that got me into kpop all together) so they will always have a special place in my heart... if y'all do react to more Bts in the future I recommend

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan which means Bulletproof Boy Scouts in Eng. The deep voice was V. Good job. The basketball fan is Suga. JK did the whistle for it. They mentioned it somewhere interview or behind the scenes i can't remember were. Sorry. This one is more pop compared to their previous songs. This song got them noticed in USA! They got invited to interviews here and they performed this one here as well. Hope u watch all the live stages. DNA is a bop for sure. U should check out the dance practice u can get to see the whole choreo there. They are fab!!! By the way their DNA chain dance move was used by another dance crew in World of Dance. When I saw this MV i was blown away. 0.0 i was like wait wait i know that move, lol. Another reactor thought this song was not deep. But their love for Army is dang deep to us army. Like they saying they are our soulmates and they are each other soulmates!!! Gosh i can't i am mush! They so sweet! We got a demo version of this song on their anthology album Proof it's sung by one of the members and i hear it's very different than this one. I am excited to hear it. They slay in any genre. To me it's we are all connected by DNA. That army and BTS are connected. It's a beautiful thing this bond. DNA camera work reused in Suga's Shadow and in JHopes More MVs. You know how there is some controversy around their 3 English songs and how western-targeted they are? Believe it or not, DNA was the first that stood out as targeted to appeal to the western market. They debuted it live at the 2017 AMAs and it had a mixed reception with ARMYs. It's so weird to look back at that time!

Good reaction. ty. Steve Aoki is cool. I did not know him until i saw this MV. He has a song called Waste It On Me ft. BTS members pls check it out. There is an MV. for it It's so good. Rush Hour by Crush ft. JHope has a part of Mic Drop choreo. Yes, they naming their song I'm Fine. An army easter egg. This song was the 1st time i heard Steve Aoki. Never heard of him before. Mic Drop: It's a slap in the face for their haters by saying they're at a point where it doesn't matter what you say because your words don't matter anymore. It's also a flex song by pointing out how many trophies they have because at this point they'd need a U-Haul to get them all. Just for an example, in Korea there are weekly music shows by various stations and the winner gets a trophy. Dynamite has 36 (I think) award show wins and that's without any promotion on their end. Fun fact: Mic Drop was inspired by President Obama's mic drop when he left office. =0] I know about the dance break they added. There is a practice video for that. And they have performed this song with the new choreo for a while now. I saw another live with it. It is a perfect addition to the original choreo though they just made it harder as usual. =0p So glad u loved this song like I do.

- This is from the famously fandom-nicknamed "Dior performance". Their outfits were specially created for each of them for this tour by one of Dior's youngest, hippest designers, Kim Jones who really likes them.
- I can't wait for you to dive further into the rap line... Mic Drop is sort of the 5th Cypher which is why they say "the last farewell". They were just done with addressing the haters. 😏😎
- The Dior Performance of Outro: Tear is a rap line must. The song is from when they thought about disbanding and their emotions really show. 💔

fun fact, in some live performances, SUGA drops a fake mic(bc it would be crazy to drop their customized mic actually) and Jin hits his mic to create the sound of a mic dropping.

The lyrics "Did you see my bag? It's hella trophies and it's hella thick" are extremely meaningful. A lot of K-pop fans were mocking them for not winning any daesang (grand prize) - despite coming from an almost bankrupt label with no power - compared to other groups (from bigger - to not say biggest - labels). But at some point they started winning more and more, sweeping most of them in a few years, surpassing the biggest groups. As of today, they hold the record of most daesang wins in South Korean history with over 70
They are the biggest group in the world and are all successful soloists as well! They all are lyricists (especially RM) and producers (especially SUGA) but they all write, produce and compose to different degrees. The Rap Line - RM, SUGA & j-hope - participates more because they have more experience as they are rappers. RM and SUGA even used to make music before joining BigHit and BTS
- RM writes and produces a lot for BTS and himself. 'Intro: Persona' (BTS solo) and 'Nuts' (solo) are some of my favourites (He did too many, it's hard to recommend just a few),RM(1st mixtape), Mono(2nd mixtape), Indigo(1st album), Right Place,Wrong Person(2nd album). [RM did write (participated in writing) a song for TXT Lovesong it's his 1st song for another group.]
- Jin: 'Moon' (BTS solo) and 'The Astronaut' (solo) are my favourites of his. He came back from his military service recently and plans on releasing an album in Nov/Dec.
- SUGA aka Agust D produces and writes a lot for himself and BTS but also for other artists. I'd recommend 'Haegeum' (solo,2 part to trilogy(1st Daechwita, 3rd is Amygdala)) and 'Interlude: Shadow' (BTS solo). Agust D(1st mixtape), D-2(2nd mixtape), D-Day(1st album), etc.
- J-hope: he writes and produces a lot for BTS and himself. my favorites are 'More' (solo) and 'Outro: Ego' (BTS solo). Hope World(1st mixtape), Jack in the Box is my favorite 1st album. He come back from military service in October 21. Hope on the Street (2nd album).
- Jimin: 'Like Crazy' (solo) and 'Serendipity' (BTS solo) and are my favorites. Face(1st album), His 2nd mini album - 'Muse' -Who tittle track and 'Smeraldo Garden Marching Band' pre-release =0p
- V: my favorites are 'Slow Dancing' (solo), 'Inner Child' (BTS solo) and 'Blue & Grey' (BTS), layover(1st album), etc.

Great variety, whoever gave you guidance on this opening set did well! Hopefully for part 2 they’ll suggest On Kinetic Manifesto, a ballad like The Truth Untold (live), maybe an earlier one like Dope or Fire, and an incredible cinematic experience like Blood Sweat & Tears. Oh and Festa 21 Live! (Oh and Airplane Pt 2…and Idol…) You’ll need at least 5 deep dives to scratch the surface, including 1 solo from each, where the rapline will blow your minds, and you’ll experience Jimin, V and Jin more fully (since you already know JK). 😅
So True, Without BTS, there would be no BIG HIT MUSIC, or HYBE. BTS's success is what saved the company from going bankrupt, and took it to levels they never expected.
