    It has been 3 months
I am on the tandems and the dexcom G6 coupled..
My A1C went from. 11.7. Down to 7.2
I am the happiest Man walking with these numbers...
It has been 12 years since I turned DIABETIC,
Had to leave my job is I lost my medical, due to the FAA rules.
This pump along with the G6
Together are God's gift to humanity....

What I found very good for raising my glucose when low is raisins. They work so well that it is too easy to over-do it. I eat 1 large handful or 2 medium handfuls and that will usually raise me up about 20-40 mg/dl. And the raisins taste MUCH better than the glucose tabs. I carry a small bag of raisins everywhere with me just in case I need them and they do not spoil.

Hey guys ... I'm so very glad I found you both. First of all, Crystal, my wife and I have had 3 Cavalier King Spaniels and couldn't imagine life without one.
That aside, I had a pancreas failure 4 years ago which took my 65 yr. old body, which I had worked very hard to keep in great shape, and decimated it overnight. I became a diabetic that the Endocrinologist called "Brittle Diabetic" (whatever that means) and I had to re-learn how to live.
It took a couple of years to finally qualify for my G6 and T-Slim Pump but am now turning the corner to better health. You have both contributed to my getting there and I thank you so much for your knowledge, experience and compassion, it's invaluable to us all. Cheers and God Bless you both!!

One tip I have is making sure you drink enough water. I’ve found and heard that being dehydrated can affect your readings! Also, I always try and not calibrate within the first 24 hours of a newly inserted sensor. You need to give the sensor time to adjust to your body and calibrating a new sensor can throw off the readings for the next couple of days.

I found that if I calibrate 3 times, about 1 hr apart, on the first day the sensor is good for the rest of the time. I've noticed that the sensor always seems to read about 10-15 mg/dl lower than where I am actually at. I also tend to calibrate it so that the sensor shows me about 5mg/dl HIGHER than where I am actually at. I do this because the low alarm tends to go off (I have it set to the lowest value or 55) before I actually feel low, but this is just how I set it and I wouldn't recommend anyone else do this.

Very good presentation. Personally I use a smartwatch 100% of the time to act as a data collector from my Dexcom G6. I also use a non-Dexcom Android app for this application. The reason for the watch is because of my environment, work and activity I can't always have a smartphone in proximity to my G6 transmitter. Even while swimming my watch monitors my BG levels and gives my a warning for either projected highs or lows. My watch have been 100% reliable for collecting all of the Dexcom data. When my phone is turned on and in range the watch does download all of the data to the phone for additional analysis.

It's been reported that other watches with a modification can also work but only get data every 10 minutes instead of 5. One tip I learned when I starting researching data about the CGMs (I've been using them for less than a year) is that your glucometer is not super accurate and the CGMs are even less so. The glucometers we get over the counter are approved to be within 15% of the actual glucose level! In other words, if your glucose is at 100 mg/dl from your glucometer, then your REAL level is somewhere between 85 and 115. I got pretty annoyed when I learned this, because how can I get really good control if my meter is not precise. Being a scientist by training, I really don't like imprecision. And all the literature I read about CGMs says they can be more than 15% off true values. Don't get me wrong, I love my Dexcom and it makes managing my blood sugar levels WAY easier, and I would never give it up. I just find the imprecision annoying.

2022-11-03 I have been using the Libre series 1 sensor (no alarms) and the stated limits are plus or minus 40 mg/dL 95 to 99 % of the time, but those are very wide, useless limits, and I regularly get readings outside that range - Sorry Libre series 1. While folks maybe looking for a sensor that does not require any calibrations, I, too, with a science background, appreciate the chance to do a calibration (which could not be done with the Libre series 1 sensors - I've been fighting that sensor for three years and my endo staff didn't even tell me about the Libre 2 or 3 !!) Personally, I get the best results with contour next fingerstick numbers--I knoiw these afre not perfect either, but I get the best A1c values with them. I am only now coming to grips with the idea of watching my "time in range" and this video said nothing about that.
But, thanks for what was here.

T1&2 (yes, it is a thing!) Taking insulin and EXTREMELY insulin resistant so I have to take victoza as well. I've been using libre 2 system for 8 months and am considering going to dexcom. My insurance covers both 100% so cost isnt an issue. Flexibility is the issue for me.also, adhesion problems with libre2. I've had to start using surgical foam tape to keep the libre2 on my arm any longer than 5 days! With dexcom, I believe the adhesion is better and the extra adhesives can be gotten from the company if needed. The extra adhesives recommended by Abbott for the libre2 are from other companies and ridiculously priced when my insurance won't cover them.

I have tried Dexcom g6- Libre 14 and Libre 2….
The best for me is the Dexcom G6. I have wear them at the same time at least the Libre 2 and the Dexcom, there’s times that both got the same readings when I’m stable in normal glucose readings but most of the time the Libre gives high readings and especially in glucose spikes when I’m rising it goes way over the board.
And definitely even that the Dexcom is not FDA approved for the back of the arms for me is the most accurate placement so far.

I'm experimenting with both and found at times the readings were way off, like one says 5 and the other 7, so I did the strip test and found the FreeStyle was accurate. I wondered about the insulin pump because my management of my blood sugar isn't in control, probably because of kidney failure, but it sounds like the pen is the better choice. I like the Dexcom for the sounds of the alerts as you have many choices and FreeStyle just as two. One of them is so loud my apartment neighbours would hear it so I can't use it.

    Hello ,
I'm T1 since 1998 using TSlim & D6 . Diabetes care has come so far! One thing I would change with the D6 is how the expiring Trasnsmiter day of alert on TSlim pump inevitably comes after I have already set my sensor. I'm curious if other people in this community using this duo have experienced this as well? If so, what do you find to be your best methods to help prevent you from wasting a sensor on Transmitter change day?

    • @rbpenn
      @rbpenn ปีที่แล้ว

Hi. I actually keep an Excel spreadsheet with the sensor data, the date/time I start it and the date/time it ends (not when it's *supposed* to end, but when it actually dies). Since so many crap out before 10 days, this is useful when calling Dexcom for a replacement. On the spreadsheet I also record when I start a new transmitter. Since I'm updating this spreadsheet every time I start a new sensor, it's easy to see if my transmitter should die before the sensor does. Of course, the 90-day life isn't always exactly 90 days, but I've found it's close enough that if I need a new sensor and I put the transmitter in 83 days ago, I'll change it first. Of course, you don't have to use MS Excel, even a simple text file or even physical notebook would work just fine.

I have noticed with my iPhone that when running certain apps it will interfere with Dexcom getting readings.. if you are running something else on your phone take note if any app is running when you’ve lost connection.. there might be a link.

I could not get transmitter in correctly, it didn't click in. When I tried to dislodge it and reinsert it, the sensor was pulled out. All this BEFORE it synced up. Now I find I have to use another Sensor, but the app is still Syncing the previous Sensor. How do I get it to CANCEL so I can start over?
P.S. This is my 1st time doing this by myself.

I'm a new G6 user, great to see your reviews, but we really need to put pressure on Dexcom to improve the APP! Its very poor in so many ways.
Australia is now subsidising CGMs and they should be doing much, much better. Here's a few simple improvements the App needs urgently, otherwsie Libre will take over ..
Remove unneccessary warning message on startup once those settings are applied (or even agreed to once) - Upgrade the graph from ugly 1990s version, and horrible look and horzl/vert toggle - Keep months of data on phone (and graph), without need to send data to dexcom and use clarity app. WHY! - Allow notes event at times, eg meals - Allow more units of insulin >80 - Support all modern Android phones.. why no S22 after more than a year!
So hard to see any past events (eg last nightly slow acting insulin that was hust over 24hrs ago to see whats suitable next)
Please, please fix the App, and listen to actual users feedback.
This needs a fix urgently, last update almost a year ago!

I'm brand spanking new to this! What I have trouble with so far, is when replacing a new sensor, I always don't snap the transmitter in right. I'll hear the clicks, but the wider bottom ever so slightly is a touch elevated. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My Dr has done it twice for me, I've watched videos, and read the manuals. I feel so defeated when this happens. It's definitely not complicated, and I can't keep replacing it, and havhng to change it right away I'm wasting product. Last time I did it, it was working fine. Are the sometimes difficult to snap in? I insert the small part, then click both sides right?

I had the same thing happen to me. For some reason it didn't totally snap in. Dexcom sent me a new transmitter. Not sure what happened, I installed it the same way I had installed all the other ones. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

    • @supercooldude357
      @supercooldude357 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I find that putting the skinny end in first so it gets held tightly(there's a little notch it goes into) once that is done press firmly on the wider end till it clicks in. You may have been unlucky and had that rubbery piece with two dots in the wrong spot. This may all be in the training video and directions that come with the sensor, I haven't watched that in years.
Once you figure it out, you will never look back, the DG6 is great and I'm already looking forward to the DG7.

Here is the problem and I hope someone will have a suggestion to help. • @thoughtsengineer

Dexcom is a continuous glucose monitor. Basically a sensor that measures your sugar levels every 5 minutes instead of finger pricking. But note: it is not actually testing directly your blood, so it's not as accurate. But it's good enough, specially to for low/high alarms.

hi guys, i don't really understand how you can afford the Dexcom G6... is it compensated by your health insurance authority? because the cost for sensors + transmitter per month is like 20% higher than minimum wage here, and if you are not a child there are like 0 chances you will get these for free :/ because there are even children waiting for months in line to receive CGMs.

There is no way I could afford this otherwise. It is such a great tool and unfortunately price is an issue.
