I'm half-Belgian, and there are some interesting things that I remember: 1. Britain entered the war because of Germany going through Belgium. Britain had previously entered into an ally treaty in 1839, the Treaty of London, which formally recognized Belgium's independence from the Netherlands. The German chancellor infamously described the treaty as a "scrap of paper." 2. The photo that shows the burning of the library at KU Leuven (the big university in the city) is significant. The library was considered an iconic landmark inside the city of Leuven (or Louvain), and so burning it down was seen as a huge insult to the city's pride. It's been rebuilt since then.

Note: “When Wilson protested these violations of American neutrality, the Royal Navy backed down.”

I was a history major in college in the US. There are a lot of history nerds in this country. I know fellow history nerd when I see one and he is one. I doubt he is the “average” Brit when it comes to his command of this subject. That said, you are right that way too many Americans don’t know jack about history and don’t care to learn.
Small recommendation, whenever you pause, rewind about 5-10 seconds before pressing pressing play again to ensure that you don't miss anything. (Especially in things like oversimplified because of how condensed they are)
You can use your arrow keys to rewind or fast forward every 5 seconds. Also, press the spacebar to pause and play the video so you don't miss out when you break to give input.
Not to be rude, but I zoned out when you were going to explain why your new job was causing posting delays (my thoughts are "you owe me nothing, post whenever you can"). And then I drift back in and realize "oh, he's doing a joke here" and had to go back and watch again.
Hmm, you are deliverying a powdered substance which claims to be baking powder and people are anxious that it comes from Columbia? Do you think you should take a quick look at what you are actually deliverying?
1) You know far more about WW1 than you claimed. 2) This American has all of "Blackadder" on DVDs, although there are some episodes I've not seen in many years. 3) My understanding is that while Germany was not seeking a war, their perception was that Russia was rapidly gaining strength, and that if there must be a war, the sooner the better. The most powerful voice in Austria-Hungary rejecting the repeated calls for war by army Chief of Staff Conrad von Hötzendorf and others had been the assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand. 4) Regarding the technological changes since the Napoleonic Wars, I've never understood why the many wars since then were ignored. The 2 Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913 should have offered lessons. The U.S. Civil War seems to have been disregarded; was this because it was conducted by [insert insult here] Americans rather than Europeans properly trained in warfare? Did one really need evidence in 1914 that walking toward rapid-fire rifles and machine guns was a bad idea? Why did they learn so slowly? With the possible exception of today's conspiracy theorists, I cannot think of a greater concentration of imbecility than nearly all the generals of WW1.
