I still use my dad's model 70 westerner he bought in 1959 in Glendive Montana. He used it on mule deer, pronghorns, and elk. I've used it for whitetail and black bear and never had a problem.
I have a Winchester model 70 feather weight with a 24" barrel. I love that rifle so much, so many memories with my dad and that rifle. me and dad also had different 6.5-300 wby mags, for some reason he loved the barrel burners and so do I!
After getting a 6.5 swedish and building a 6.5 grendel upper ive learned an appreciation for the 6.5 calibers. .264 win mag seems to be making that appreciation stonger.
Yeah, I had a buddy with a 264 Rem Mag. Can't remember the model but it had a premium stock. Shot great. Minimal recoil. I shot a lot of 270 at that time and it definitely had less recoil than my lighter 270. I consider that a very premium cartridge choice.
That's a sweet looking Rig who-tee-who . Groups are good as well . When you take it to the deer wood's, don't shoot the body pop one in the head or neck . I promise you won't be disappointed. Wanted to let you know that the 101gr hammers are devastating and easily be pushed 3500+fps . The 108-128 from 3500-3300fps are bad to the bone as well. Ishoot the 128gr hammers 3290fps in my 264 win mag. Now that you are reloading you can make your 264 win mag a bug hole screamer . I recently had a gun smith make me a new rifle called the 6.5 prometheus, which is a 338 norma mag necked down and shortened a bit to 264cal . Get this 156gr 3362fps 0.2in groups can go to 3500+ that shortened brass life dramatically 2-3 firings not good. 15-20 firings with the load I have currently. Really like the looks of your Rig it's nice 👌. FYI, you can get bug hole groups with the EZ-TUNER Breaks . They are amazingly accurate at tightening groups. You can get factory ammo to shoot 1 hole 🕳 groups or within 0.3 consistently every time you should check them out . God bless you and your family God-bless America 🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🎉
140 grains around 3000 fps. Same as my 270 Winchester does. Mine also drops exactly 12 MOA at 600 yards just like your drop chart says. I shot my 270 at 600 yards a few weeks ago, keeps about a 5-6 inch group. Plenty enough to take a deer or elk out to that range, for sure.
It was ahead of it’s time but the reason it lost to the 7 rem mag was because of Remington marketed the 7 as a deer/elk cartridge while as the 264 was marketed as a deer on down. Gunwiters also hurt the 264 by rapidly heating the barrels hunting prairie dogs then complaining it was a barrel burner. Also anyone that owned a 270 probably didn’t consider the 264 to be enough of an improvement to justify buying a new rifle that hunted the same game. A friend of my fathers just passed away who bought a new 264 in the early 60’s and it was his favorite. And he collected a lot of guns over his 92 years.
Yep. If you say the .264 can do it so can the 6.5 PRC. My Bergara shoots factory 130 terminal ascent at 3150 and Choice ammo 120 grain at 3280. Waiting on my dies to get here from Midway and load some 150 ABLR with magnum powder. Should be able to get over 3000 easily.
Yep, great cartridge. My dad had a model 70 in 264 Win Mag that really liked 140 Partitions in front of a max load of IMR-4350. He would get 3/4” groups at 3000 fps. I watched him shoot a 170” muley at over 350 yards across a canyon near Meeker, Colorado. He used a notch in a cedar tree as his rest and dumped the buck with a double lung shot. Awesome cartridge!
Hornady is making a big deal about the 6.5PRC and all it is is a rehash of the .264WM and the 264 came out in 1959. Put a faster twist barrel on when it suits you and you never have to think "should I have gotten a PRC."
Yeah, that's the thing for a lot of the newer cartridges... you can just get the new gun/cartridge and the standards are already fast twist barrels, etc. so all of them have the required features. Or you could get a gun for one of the older cartridges and order it with a custom barrel, etc. Granted, if you're already spending a lot of money on firearms and stuff then getting a custom barrel and all that may not be an issue or a chore, but for a bunch of folks, it's just extra work and extra expense.
@@shanehebert396 Our trailblazers in the late 19th/early 20th centuries brought us everything from the 30-30, 7/8mm Mauser, 30-06, .270Win, all of Weatherby's cartridges, all the H&H Magnum cartridges, the Winchester magnums, the Remington magnums...along with what are still the finest hunting rifles made. No one is ever going to pay $40 or 50K for some polymer stocked 6.5PRC or 300PRC, but go ahead and look at what they get for those old H&H or Purdie rifles from back in the day. The most common bullet weights for the 6.5PRC are the 140-143s, which coincidentally are the most common weights for the .264Winmag., do a ballistic comparison on the cartridges and you'll find they're nearly identical. It costs the same amount of money to replace a barrel with a 1/9 with a 1/8 as it does to put a 1/9 back on and you get the added bonus of shooting the cartridge out of a sexy rifle. Everything old is new again and the guys who came before knew what they were doing. The 6.8W beats the 6.5PRC, as does the .264WM if you handload. The 7mmRM still beats both of them and if you handload, by a lot. They just want to sell you stuff you don't need: "The New Hotness is 10% lighter and faster than the Old Hotness from last year."...in other words, the sh!t they sold you last year sucks and you need new stuff.
Brings back funny Hunting Camp memories...hunted yearly with a guy in the late 70's-80's who had this round. He refused to use anything else. Funny because I'm the Mountains of upstate NY, your longest shot on our property and any leased lots we hunted was under 100 yards. He praised it every time he dropped a deer. My 30-30 did the same thing...
I use my Rock BR a good bit, but i changed out my bags on the setup to Protektor leather bags. Was a good upgrade and the bags are way nicer and dont tear and leak.
Actually just broke and put it all on credit card making videos hoping someday it'll be worth it 🤣. Gun is 30 yrs old and I bout it used. Scope is actually a budget friendly one
That was my late Best Buddy’s WV deer getting caliber, in Pa he used pre 64 model 70 in 06 n put many of deer in the freezer n a few trips out west also !! Great video !!
Looking back.. we had some nice cartridges fall by the way side 😮 I blame the gun writers.. They claimed the 264 Winchester Mag was a barrel burner! Which most hunters would not put 1,000 rounds down the barrel.. so that's mute to me! Then you have the 260 Remington that was crunched between the 7mm-08 and the 243.. not a bad spot.. but it was overlooked! Also.. the 6.5 Remington Mag.. which is very similar to the 264 Winchester Mag.. it never got any love from the gun writers 😮 My favorite cartridge is the father of the 6.5 Remington Mag.. it's the 350 Remington Mag! A true short action that is the ballistic twin to the 35 Whelen 😊 Anyways.. great shooting brother and good luck catching some critters! God bless 🙏
Far to many short barrels now good to see one still alive and beating box speeds I've seen 22-250s with 20"barrels and producing similar speeds to 223 cartridge what the point in neutering a fast cartridge just my opinion great video Adam look forward to seeing your hunt both elk and deer 👍👍
awesome rifle! Almost 3100 fps with factory loads, imagine what you could get with hand loads and the right powder! I’m still doing load development with my 264.
Nice old rifle mate it’s shooting really well, I really like all the 6.5 cartridges for deer, they work really well, I’ve never played with a 264 wm cool cartridge tho 👍🏼
Hey your mossberg patriot vidio. THANKS. I look up cal make pre range trip. You are so right! Not a bad stick w normal 150g white tail huntet. Really value your testing, similar results no lead sled but sand bag. Very pleasant surprise!
I've got the same rest and had the same rear bag but didn't like it to stiff so I bought a softer rear bag that I could squeeze it and munipulate it easier, not a bad setup on the cheap.
I like my heavy barrels. Little booger to pack but i think its worth it. Ive never had a 264. In my neck of the woods it wasnt popular considered a western round because of the flatness. When i was young a 264 was on my list of dream guns. Plus in a Sendero. Oh baby!!!! And you canned it! Impressive. Id like to can my PSS 300RUM. But i never use it.
That caliber is known for NEEDING the 26” barrel. Many articles years ago about the 26” Westerner model being the only length that was accurate. Many wanted shorter barrel lengths which led to its demise as a nearly obsolete caliber.
Barrel length won’t affect accuracy only velocity, and the 7 rem mag killed this cartridge nothing else, if you built a fast twist barrel and use modern bullets this cartridge is a beast tho 👍🏼
@ You are correct. However the .264 was ahead of its time and it needing tweaking. The bullet weight and velocities of the time only worked well out of the 26” barrel. Spending money to improve the 264 became moot after the introduction of 7 RemMag which is a great cartridge.
.264 and .284 mag were always the ones we kids dreamed of after seeing the numbers on the shooters bibles back in the 80's. Gun talk at school involved the regular 30-30s .243s and a few other rounds that just about everyone in these parts used but then someone would mention these two and fantasyland would open up. Our simple minds at that time didn't realize that 500 rounds through a deer rifle was generally 3 lifetimes or more lol. That’s a real 6.5 creedmoor for long range moose, elk and deers hunts. Don’t use the actual 6.5 creedmoor for long range hunting. You need the 264 win mag for long range, mid to large game. For one shot kill potential at long range, 300 yards and over is for 264 win mag.
WTW, when you take the speed of your round (thru the Chrono.) you should fire 3 shots and then use the Avg. speed. Much more accurate when calculating Drop Tables!
260 rem 140 grain and 264 rem mag 140 grain is 435 bc... Between all these hunts you got to you should pull of those bullets. .you will be surprised how long they are
They made them in long and magnum actions. Used to chamber the 300 and 7mm rum in it. Most all of them were long actions, 2506 3006 270 300 win 7mm rem all were chamberings way back when . Not sure if the new company brought that model back or not

i have wanted a .264 win mag since the early 90's. But as a very young Marine I did not have the money. Great video as always.
Always liked the 264,but I also like 6.5 rem mag. I'm antiquated. Both before their time.
I also like the 6.5 Rem mag. Remington did this cartridge no favors. Terrible platform like the Mohawk

and wind blowing you may not see between you and 600 yard animal could make that group 18 inches and a miss or wounded animal.....
I like the 264 too but I'm also a 270 guy, and I agree, the 270 an 7 rem mag killed the 264
.264 win mag was ahead of its time......folks were stuck on the 7s and 30 calibers.......with a slick bullet there is no critter that is safe.
The .284 projectile is the king from way back !

I did a video comparing them. 264wm has a little more boogie
Threading the barrel didn't ruin the accuracy? Are you insinuating people on the internet don't actually know everything like they think they do?
Bingo 🤣
Great video brotha, always are. What are your thoughts on the 243 ackly improved. I couldn't remember if you had one or not. Take care boss.
Never had that one. Don't know the ballistics off the top of my head, but I guess everything improved is good 👍👍

Wow my first time seeing .264
What a shooter!!
I love it
what bottom metal and mag is that ?? i have the same rifle in 7mm stw ..... these rifles shoot tiny groups
Not sure
What ballistic calculator do you use? Seems pretty cool.
Shooters calculator dot com
Really want to build a left handed 264 now!
What’s the site you use for drop chart calculation? Recently started chrono and hand loading so I’d like to build similar DOPE.
Counting down the minutes, nice deer catcher , great caliber .
🦌🦌🦌
Do you find a 26 inch barrel plus the suppressor cumbersome when hunting? Or is it kind of a nostalgia trip to when our ancestors hunted with muskets?
I do not. I like it. Longer = faster
I hope you get rid of the lead sled. Many of us enjoy seeing the recoil affect on the shooter. We all know your an excellent shot by now and a big boy to boot ! Lol.... Enjoy your work and keep em coming !
If you really want to see what the 264 can do, handload for it. The Hornady 143gr eldx works wonderfully in my model 70. Getting 3220fps on average.
Yup I'm gonna load it
A friend of mine uses the .264 win mag for elk and he has dumped some big ones.
Hey love your videos what sight do you use for your dope chart?

What app are u using to find drop? I like the looks of that scope.

Could you do a long range gell test for your Elk rifle?
Brother thing is a tack driver really love it sounds superb to good luck
What is the difference in velocity between the 6.5mm PRC, .264 Win Mag, 6.5mm Rem Mag and the 6.5-300 Weatherby Mag with a 140 grain bullet?
I did a video on that
th-cam.com/video/BpC63PCCvac/w-d-xo.html
The .264 Win Mag was doing in the 60's what the 6.5 PRC is doing now.
Can't wait brother 👍
Mine would pencil through even on elk but my brothers worked well I had to load partitions and they are the light switches!
💡💡💡
Love the 264, building one.
Awesome
The Best line in all of youtube. Hey everybody this about to be a really fun video😅😅😅
😝😝😝
That gun is so “Old School Sweet!” Where can I find that chart program? I need to start charting my loads

So is this what 270 wsm is basically the short action version of? Genuinely curious
You're gonna have a hard time picking a rifle for opening day lol Any clue what you'll use?
Not sure yet....
@ I would like to see the 44 mag in action
I'm using a Spanish mauser in 7x57 & my husband going with his yugo mauser in 8x57
Wish when you show an oddball cartridge you would show it next to 30-06 or 308 or 270 just something everybody knows for comparison
I did that in another video with the 264
What balistic calculator you using to print out dope charts.

Love it dude!
Me too!
*Another* video?? You must be the hardest working man in show biz
New video every day
I have one just like it never fired. Its a safe queen for later days.
Awesome
Got to love watch WTW I'm always late but always watch them all i may be early tonight
Appreciate you watching

Why is the Chrono upside down? Those are sky screens and not legs! Just curious..
It isn't upside down. Just how that one works
Nice gun great caliber buddy good group
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching!
how heavy is the rifle?
Not sure
That will do nicely !

@ mines pushing 3600+ fps I’ll never publish reloading data due to safety just giving you ideas
WTW, when you take the speed of your round (thru the Chrono.) you should fire 3 shots and then use the Avg. speed. Much more accurate when calculating Drop Tables!

Didn't know Remington made a Sendero in long action? Is it marked Sendero on the barrel?
They made them in long and magnum actions. Used to chamber the 300 and 7mm rum in it. Most all of them were long actions, 2506 3006 270 300 win 7mm rem all were chamberings way back when . Not sure if the new company brought that model back or not
I would like to find one in the 25-06. Thanks for the info!
