Truck should be called "Double Trouble".lol
"Hands OFF!" LOL.
Absolutely, the exploding gM “squarebody, most dangerous, never should have happened but gM got away with it from 1973 to 87 because of the gastank location it would burn on contact
Wheres the vote button . Hank wins Grandpa of the year for teaching his grand daughters valuable knowledge 👏 the world needs more of this
I love seeing you teach the girls how to work on their truck. Every kid needs a grampa like you.
Papa Ham thank you for your service sir, great job teaching those young ladies how to maintain their vehicle
Hank it’s so good in today’s age to see teenage grand daughters show a genuine interest in auto restoration and with their granddad.
Hank I love that you are taking the time to teach the girls valuable knowledge of not only working on their truck but also spending quality time together. This is something that they will always cherish. Keep up the great work, I can’t wait to see the next episode. PS the girls should not only name the truck “ Twin Towers” but should have the license plate personalized also “TWIN TWRS”
👍
Hank, they each need a truck!!!!!!!!!!
Another memory. Use those glasses underneath with all that debris flying … skin will grow back eventually but eyes maybe not.
Hank with all that water in the rear differential check and make sure the vent hose doesn’t leak at the inlet on the third member housing and the vent tube doesn’t have a hole somewhere and lastly make sure it’s routed high enough where the end won’t go under water when forging creeks and mud holes. Your granddaughter’s were really interested in repairing their truck plus they’ll never forget bringing this truck back to life with you, they’ll tell their kids one day Hank great job Sir.
Your Granddaughters are very lucky to have you teaching them! This is something they will cherish forever.
I try to do this with my boys when maintaining mine and my wife's vehicles. They have no interest! Glad to see they show interest!
Thank you for your service in the military, Hank.
God bless you and your family!
I think you for your service HANK !!! My brother served for 15 years in the Army 2 terms in Afghanistan and 1 in Iran . THANK God he made it back safely !!!
If there's water in the differential, then it also traveled through your axle, and if your rear wheel bearings are lubricated (not sealed bearings) than they also might be compromised. If the sludge is in your axle casing, its going to contaminate the oil change
I don't think the water got to the axle bearings. The oil floats on the water. The water would stay in the bottom of the housing.
If it was driven much the water and oil would have gotten stirred up and whipped into a foam and look like chocolate whipped cream.
Thank you for your service Hank! I’m very familiar with Robins Air Force Base. Great job with your granddaughters. I have an 18 year old son that has a passion for trucks. He built a motor put it in his 1986 Square Body.
Hank, i love the videos of you teaching your granddaughters how to work on different things. I have been teaching my granddaughter the same skills for about two years now and she is 12. She loves it. When we finish a project she always asks papaw what are we going to work on next? I love it.
Cracked up when you dropped the oil filter wrench in the sauce. Don't you hate when that happens? It is usually the oil pan drain bolt. You put way too much RTV on the diff cover. You don't really want it to squeeze inside the diff. Yes, you should have let it cure, though most shops won't bother to wait. Also, I would just let the driver snug the diff cover bolts. Let the RTV setup a bit, then torque to specs, FWIW.
Those girls are cutie pies.
Hank you and the twins are doing a great job plus all the memories you all are making
Glad to see the twins like the older trucks. Very good job changing the oil and rear end oil they even had their hands dirty 😅👍👍
Good job on yea home the girls how to work on there own truck. It will pay them off for many years.
When you had the diff cover off you needed to lift the rear and spin the axle to inspect the ring and pinion gears. Hoping that was done off camera
It's good to see the girls interested in helping with the truck.
Safety glasses girls .🥽👍
Great job ladies, keep up the great work
Hank you are doing an honorable job teaching these 2 young ladies
Looking forward to seeing your next adventure with this truck
May Gods Blessings continue to shine upon all of you
Hank, Awesome granddaughters there, and thank you for your service...
Thank you for your service in the airm forces
Loved that squatted tahoes comment 😂😂😂 definately country girls
Man those young women are doing great you do good teaching them hank!!! I wish i was in a southern state like you guys.. up here in Pennsylvania what should be a 11/16 bolt by the time you try to loosen it turns into a 3/8 with rounded corners because the salt in the winter lol. Youll get it though. Perseverance pays off👍👍👍
Man, you guys put so much rtv on that dif cover I thought you were decorating a cake. It's nice to see you girls taking interest into what it takes to keep those old trucks rolling down the road. I had an old K10 short bed 4x4 that was painted sky blue. It was my pride and joy until someone gave me an offer to buy it too good to refuse. I can't wait to see yours when it's finished. Happy wrenching.
This series has me reminiscing back to when I was teaching my daughter how to do maintenance on her Jeep when she got her license, great job girls and Hank!
Your grand daughters are so lucky to have you in their lives. Double Trouble seem to enjoy working on their truck. Looking forward to your next post
Great seeing you teaching your granddaughters
Great job girls you got itHank keep teaching them till they can do it blind folded 👏 👍
YOUR A GOOD GRANDPA!!!!!!
Grandpa you got two beautiful mechanics in the making not afraid to get there hands dirty great teacher carry on the excellent work 👍👍👍👍
It's been fun watching you wrench on the truck. Also, thanks for your service, Hank
50-50 both should own it
I love seeing them young ladies taking the initiative and learning how to work on their own truck and actually getting dirty while working on it too. #preciousmemories more young men and women need to learn this fading skill set thank you for taking the time and having the patience of job while teaching them they seem to love working on it and also spending the quality time with you as well
BINGO!!! Safety glasses should definitely be used while wheel brushing. Papa Ham too!
Hank it's awesome you spending time with the little Ladies and teaching them great stuff 👍 which as they get older they will not only pass on but appreciate so much .well done sir God bless
Excellent video Hank :) twins girls also think girls should check in Auto Mechanics shop classes in high school and help them take care that truck also any other vechiles may get in future to serivce up ! I know my High Schools in my area do that plus Welding in classes do for past 32 years ! Also help lots in enjoying years for fix up own vechiles and love it ! They do in 2 credits each semester from grade 9 to 12 years and check in if allowed at there High School ! I know when I went high school in 1989 to 1994 years girls started in Automotive Mechanics plus Welding , Electronics, Wood Working and they enjoying it! My one cousin Nancey did to and does her vechiles repairs even on her own motorcycle Harley Davidson !
Once again Hank a great video with the twins✌️
That truck sat in a creek for awhile and water came in through the differential vent. The front diff.
is probably gonna have water too.
Yup it would.
could have seeped in through the wheel bearings too
Hank you might want to check the axle seals too
Awesome job teaching the girls how to work on the truck and learning something new
Hank, you probably should have jacked up the truck and investigated the knocking noise in the rear end.
Joint ownership plus an everyday schedule that gives each time to use/drive it.
Good work ladies keep it up. See ya next time🦾🤟😍
Truck name double trouble ❤
I think the wheel seals are bad that's how the water got in the rear end . I love what you are doing with your grand daughters I can't wait to do that with mine !!
You girls should name the truck.Double trouble or hi boy. Great video
wow!!! She pulled that drain plug out better and cleaner than most mechanics! WELLDONE YOUNG LADY
Great job teaching them to work on the truck take care and God bless
The girls doing great … i hope they get it running smoothly..I miss the will it start videos !!❤ your doing amazing job teaching your grandchildren how to do car maintenance
You really don't have to fill the oil filter, the oil pump feeds the engine first and the filter last. Good work Grampa Ham. 😅
Hank, you're an awesome grandpa teaching them young ladies. I appreciate you sharing, buddy 👍
You bet. 👍 thank you!
After that project do a next one so you guys have two k10 God bless your families and plans
Super team. There 🎉
Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸
Great job again girls. Hank, you did okay also. 😊
Glad to see the safety glasses come out. Keep it up.
Hank, I’m not 100% sure but I’m thinking that truck is in need of maintenance and you and the girls are going to have a great time together with it! Tremendous opportunity for memories!!!
Awesome content working on the ole square body...great learning tool for the girls as you dig through and uncover the next surprise. More over your creating memories with your granddaughters and in my book that's priceless. Thanks for taking us alongside you in this adventure. 😎👨🔧🛠️🔧😇🙏🇺🇸🛻
The twins are lovely, and interested in getting the truck right. I can just see them in the future cruising down the freeway.
Good job girls!❤❤
😊
Hank! I love your shirt!
If they like light blue check out Porsche blue (Also called Maritime blue)
Loving the square body series! I know those steering columns can be a booger for sure. Hope the girls stay interested and I see they’re slowly not minding the dirty hands lol Nice seeing the progress…take care y’all! Oh and the truck name….not a k-10 but the “K twin” lol
Thank you for your service!
Oh, for cleaning gasket material off surfaces, a right angle die grinder and scotchbright pads are king. Works excellent on cast iron, but on aluminum, be sure to use dull mostly filled up scotchbright pads, and even then. Be careful, scotchbright pads can eat aluminum. And always straighten the sheet metal covers, using a ball peen to turn the bolt dimple the other way creating a form of Bellville style washer effect.
And if you chose to use a gasket instead of silicone, a can of Permatex spray adhesive will keep the gasket in place during installation. A spray on the cover, a spray on the gasket, wait till they're dry, then they go together like it's rubber cement. A contact adhesive.
Also love the scripture!
I would take the valve cover that's on the passenger side and put it on the driver side to get the oil cap/crankcase vent to be at the front of the engine and on the same side as the dipstick. That's how the original engine would have had it set up. It would make things a lot easier for when the girls do the oil changes themselves
I'm putting on new valve covers this weekend. I'll keep that in mind👍
Great job teaching the next generation about vehicles, and proud of y'all girls for showing interest in it. Keeps the diy mechanical work alive. Doing good ladies, keep it up 👍
They are doing a great job and God bless y'all
Thank you for your service and great job being a teacher to your granddaughters .keep up all the good videos
Kinda confusing on that column, it should fit right in. But I know ya'll will get it done....GIT R DUN! 😅 You're the coolest grandpa ever, Hank. Unfortunately I lost my grandpa when I was 17 and didn't get to spend much time with him, cherish these times and I know the girls will too. 😊 Thanks for your service and thanks for sharing!! God bless you all! 😎
Your all doing a real nice job ☺️. It's fun to watch the girls working on the truck 😜, thanks for sharing 😊.
with a truck that old, I would use hypoid gear oil, I think you found a gold mine.
Perks of being a mechanic, your tools are always well oil up 😂😂😂
Awesome job Hank and girls good work
My grandpa had me using all hand tool to when I worked on my truck. After that experience the first thing I bought myself was an impact and now I use it on every nut and bolt I can on a vehicle. Got that tool and never looked back. My poor ol hands thanked me.
They are learning that’s for sure.
Another killer square body build. Keep em coming. Love it lol. I actually have a video of mine on here on my TH-cam. Lwb black. I named it blacky until I get it painted white. I put a 5.3 in mine. Gotta finish up the wiring and fuel pump on it.
On that steering shaft, you can take the rag joint apart to remove the shaft from the truck. Measure the length. Measure the distance from the rag joint to the steering column.
Then lube and heat if needed to slide the two parts of the shaft to move.
You may not get it to slide easy but enough to shorten it so the length matches the measurement of the column to the rag joint.
If you get it a bit short, that's ok, slide it up on the column then attach the rag joint. Then if the bolt hole is off a bit, you can tap it up onto the column till the bolt hole is up.
Everyone is always thinking that people be installing oil filters too tight, but the main culprit for them being hard to get off is the swelled oil gasket that swells to provide a leak free seal
Most of the time when they won't come loose, Is because someone put it on dry!
Some people have bad results from rtv gasket maker because they don't read the directions which say to pull up the bolts finger tight, wait an hour, then finish torquing them.
I bet those girls are going to learn why us guys don't wear light colored clothing, shorts and flip flops when we work on cars.
Hey Hank the nozzles off DEF fluid containers will screw right onto those five quart oil jugs. Gives you a built in hose to pour out of 😊
Hank I think the 2 girls 🧒 can do it you have a great day
I think that is a great name for it means a special place for me . I was about 1 1/2 hrs. Going back home when it happened. Mr . Hamilton SIR think you for your service and protecting all of America from 🎉🎉 Texas. And great job young ladies working on the square body. ❤❤
Like the TwinTowers, and it looks good when put together as one word with the two caps. You could have the " T's" scrolled fancy and the other letters small.
Tell Grandpa to slow down when he is explaining things to you. And make sure you understand, repeat back to him what you understood him to say. You will learn and grasp more of what you are doing. But not so damn fast.....🎉
You are learning and he is teaching make it work. Finally, start looking for a second square body so once this one is finished you can start on the second so you both have your own truck. Or, the 80's Corvettes are getting cheaper on the Craigslist. You could watch and pickup 84 to say 88 pretty cheap. Then you still share them both. I've seen 84's to 88's for as low as $ 3,500 that needs work and paint.
Boy am I going to get you in trouble.😅🎉
There appeared to be a clutch pack in that carrier. You need to get a little bottle of posi fluid to add to the oil, to make the posi work.
Brings back a lot o memories with me and my grandpa I’m 18 almost 19 and remember him helping me fix my 89 f150 with 302 named it black Betty
And thank you for your service 😎💪🏻
I am at Robins now. Dang I knew there was something "diesely" about this place. fixin' to rotate soon, I hope I get less humidity and no snow. love the show. Those girls have decorated cakes RTV should be no problem!
I come from Germany I love your channel
That differential cover installation was kind of hard to watch and those bolts dont need to be super tight. Make sure the vent and vent tube are in good shape and routed high enough to prevent more water intrusion. Great patience with the girls Hank.
oh but that truck is nicer than anything squatted.
Very nice work
great job girls
Good job Hank teaching your granddaughters but it's an older truck with older problems one step at a time and it will get done after all that water in the dif I would pull the axles out and check the axle bearing s better to use diesel to clean the dif
Call your truck DOUBLE TROUBLE girls ❤❤❤
Hands on experience Way to go Papa Ham
Nice High Res camera ! RTV'd on !
I had a 68 Nova back in the 1980's 250 straight 6 . Everytime I changed the oil in that car The oil filter faught me .Sometimes I'd have to beat a tire iron through it to twist it off .I'd oil the seal then screw the filter on just till it touched the base then give it just a little tighter ....And next time it would be the same battle 😮
