  • Today, we're taking a deep dive into the Fallout faction that can never seem to win. The ruthless tribe that once struck fear into wastelanders, the Khans, would take loss after loss until they were a mere fraction of their old selves. How does such a steep downfall even happen? Well, let's find out.

    I love the Khans! I think they're fascinating with how much they've changed over time, imagine! The faction made famous for their leaders committing patricide get lead to true success in the Mojave/Wyoming by a guy they all call Papa. It's so underrated. I also love how their method of government remains pretty consistent, with their leaders supported by advisors. It's one of the few examples we really get of how a traditional raider society functions, and it's just interesting to see. Thank you for making this!

    It's weird to me that in the second half of the video you talk about the Khans as though the NCR is pushing them around and coming after them for no good reason, even though the Khans started it basically every time and they do much worse to all kinds of people than the NCR did to them. The Khans aren't innocent and the NCR repeatedly showing them mercy has allowed them to continue being a black mark on the wasteland.

    I go for the last ending nowadays. The first few times I played I was still in that Fallout1 & 2 mindset of the Khans. Never really thought they could have a future. As I got older learned more about the Mongolian empire and explored new Vegas a lot more than I should have. The last ending is what’s best. And I hope it’s the canon ending.

      Legion vs Khans in Possible Future?

    • @____________838
      @____________838 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      The Legion will be defunct by time the Khan Empire has risen.
      Tbh, the Legion would likely be falling apart after the current generation passes away, while the Khans require at least two generations to really become something new.

    • @UrLeingod
      @UrLeingod 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      The Mongols were a lot better than what Caesar's Legion does. The Mongols didn't go out of their way to try to eradicate any ethnic or national identity other than their own, or create a toxic cult of personality around their shithead ruler, or enslave *everyone* they captured or conquered, all things the Legion does with abandon. Nor did the Mongols treat their women nearly as terribly as the Legion does.
      Really, the only point where the Mongols are as bad as Caesar's Legion is what they do to "make examples" of people that try to stand up to them. Except even then, at least the Mongols *only* did that to people that tried to fight back, whereas the Legion turns around and does the exact same thing to their own allies because those allies aren't sufficiently "honorable" or whatever, like at Nipton.

    It’s honestly unexpected for me to see through a Fallout comic that Benny, the bastard that shot you in the head at the beginning of the game at least had some empathy to give Chance, the mute Khan who was in his dying moments who was desperately clinging on to life after a fatal battle against Fiends, a shot at merciful death by consuming spiked Psycho so he can pass away peacefully instead of in pain. I still hate Benny but damn I respect him for that at least.

    The Khans deserve little sympathy. Even in NV one of the Kahn survivors of Bitter Springs, Bitterroot, talks about how his family was nothing but a bunch of abusive assholes and that the NCR's fuck up gave him a second chance in life. Jerry the Punk also says that Khan life isn't for him and that he doesn't really want to be with them, but unfortunately having their protection is better than just being out in the wastes. The Khans are raiders, with generations of abuse towards others and their fellows. They've had chances to better themselves and each time they instead chose to cause trouble with everyone else. Also I mean, they named themselves after the "Khans", their entire identity is being a roaming war band.

      That'd be nuts. It may even have been doable if we didn't go back east for Fallout 4.
      But given that we may not even have a Fallout game this decade and the current cost of asset production, it seems highly unlikely. I want to at least hope they get some other "New Vegas 2" going and that Todd was simply talking about Fallout 5 specifically. But who knows.

    Best most comprehensive detailed lore on the Khans I have seen so far. And I've had an interest in them ,and watched more than a few lore vids on them now. Also didn't realise even in their worst case scenario, they still manage to evacuate remnants from Red Rock to Idaho. So basically they can lay low and regroup yet again yes?. Love em or hate em. They just won't lay and down and die for good.
    Far as wanting to see more detailed lore on factions or gangs. I want to learn more on the Vipers and Jackals. Never seen a proper lore vid focused on either so far. I didn't even know Vipers were snake worshippers or Jackals were cannibals til I watched this vid tbh. I've never seen a detailed whole lore video focusing on either Vipers or Jackals yet, so that would be good if you could do that. I thought just like other 50's street gangs culture. You would see at least a few Vipers with leather jackets with their gang patch on their backs like tunnel snakes or Khans. Tween Vipers or Jackals there's basically no indicators to tell em apart. Which I thought was bit dumb considering both are long established, kind of strong gangs anyway. Be good if the devs for next Fallout game, or spin off, would finally start story with new angle . Like the protagonist being born into ,growing up in one of those 3 legendary gangs. Be so much more interesting, a fresh approach at least. And if you choose to a be a goody goody character, you could leave them and choose to join N.C.R or Brotherhood. Or become a missionary pacifist, medic in the Followers etc.
    But the tribal groups in Fallout always interest me the most. Dead Horses to Sorrows, even White Legs. I'd love to see more about Vipers tribal culture , I mean if the devs could be bothered they could go as in-depth as they did for Children of Atom ,into the religion, tribal culture of the Vipers. Probably something like the church of Christian snake worshippers irl yes?.
    One last thing. I realise the populations that formed the Khans , Vipers, Jackals and N.C.R had years to grow ,reproduce and marry with others outside vault soon as they left Vault 15. But how big were those groups in first place when they left 15 ?? Must of been pretty sizable in the first place yes? Also must of been a vault ,a rare vault that did not experiment on and or kill off its inhabitants either, or else they would not of had the population to split off into 4 major groups when they left the vault finally yes?

    I played New Vegas and then Fallout 2 and 1, I never realised that the "raiders" in FO1 and 2 were the same people as the Great Khans. They just seemed like generic raider gangs. I think their gangs would have fallen apart a long time ago and formed new gangs, the game devs kept them as raiders for the nostalgia

    They go by many names: khans, white-legs, the 80s. I call the legion, for they are many.

    The real question is why they picked the Mongol Empire as their aesthetic. Like, why? At least Caesar gave a reason for the Legion’s Rome LARP

      I read somewhere that it was taken from a group of bikers rather than the Mongols. My guessing was that the "transportation" part meant that the Khan would start riding bikes into battle, but don't quote me on any of this.

      I think the khan's is just the name. They seem much more based on Native Americans. Especially with the Wounded Knee reference.
