  • In this video I discuss the notion that video games were better when we were younger. I talk about the various points from scope, technical prowess and the lack of the internet along with just being young and growing up.

I'm disappointed the EU initiative has lost steam. There are hardly any new people signing. I really hope some bigger creators promote it.

I wish I as a British person could sign it.

Not vetter, just novel. They were a new c9ncept when I was a kid, so it wasn't about the quality. It was novelty, and being part of an evolution of something. There were actual leaps and bounds back then, you could actually see the progress in action. When my neighbor had an Intellivision, we all jammed over to his house after school. But when I got the Atari, everyone ran ro my house.
Football went from 3v3, to 5v5, and when Tecno came out, wow! Then Madden! Wowwee wow wow! Actual development from teal developers. Innoators, really
Now, there is no industry growth, just more menory for larger maps, beighter explosions, and horses that poop. There are sequels upon sequels because video games are old hat now. The novelty has worn off and they are just another thing in the world.

You are right. The jump in fidelity and capability back then was so much greater. It was good times, all at a friends house to play whatever the new cool thing was. The industry now does seem more cynical too but there is also some good stuff out there :)

Not necessary better, but surely different. All the multiplayer games are now life services. I remember grinding on Halo Reach to obtain all the cosmetics, now you can still do that but with the option of putting in real money, it just kills the experience. Microtransaction are gone way too far on multiplayer games. Single players game are not much different, the only AAA games that we experience are new chapters of already famous brands, there is no innovation on a gameplay perspective. Even successful games like Hi-Fi Rush saw its team to get dismantle. This is really sad...
Nice video man :) Happy that you mentioned outstanding games like Grim Dawn and PoE

I am not an ancient gamer so I don't have nostalgia glasses on. If you ask what is the best game for X genre you usually get a game over 15 years as answer.
And when I play those old games I find them very often to be better than the modern games in that genre.

@nafas3278 Thank you for the nice words! I agree with you. Things are very different. A lot of the highly commercial games are riddled with examples of greed, especially multiplayer games. It is always sad to see smaller studios being closed even when they have created good games that have sold well. Innovation mostly seems to exist in the Independant studios and those larger companies still with gamers at the helm. I am sad younger gamers didn't experience the before times.

@@TK_zerrivet There are a lot of truely iconic and wonderful games from the past. I somewhat envy anyone that has yet to play any of the oldies. You get to experience them for the first time! :)
