Van Helsing: Final Cut Review! - By an old dwarf
I really enjoy your content and commentary!
Thank you. I am glad you are enjoying it! :)
It was recommended for me out of nowhere. Excellent review. I wasn't looking for a new game but will probably play it.
Awesome! Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you like it and inpsired you to give it a try :)
what was your favourite commodore game?
Oh, gosh, that is difficult. Silkworm, dragon breed, Gauntlet were all great but it has to be Golden Axe. That was the first time I ever played it so it holds a special place in this dwarf's heart :)
Great review. Looks like a fun game!
It is great fun, exceedingly cheap and you can be a pirate :)
Another great review, Balidorf!
Thank you! :)
Its a masterpiece now
It is definitly one everyone should play :)
Thanks for the detailed review. Game looks good and seems fun.
Thanks for checking out the video! It is a really solid effort and very cheap to boot :)
great as usual.
Thank you! :)
This is just heroes 5... Like even the campaign is similar, the arstyle, the gameplay, almost 70% is the same...
I assume you are talking about Heroes of Might and Magic 5? As far as I am aware Heroes of Might and Magic was initially inspired by the original King's Bounty in 1990. They are both quite similar for sure. I guess if you like one you would enjoy the other :)
@@balidorf8573 If you say so
Happily already subscribed. Thanks for covering this game and I've now picked it up. It's not a very big deal but, I wish that in the combat section you would have included a few samples of the combat sounds (explosions, lasers, etc). I'm sure i'll be pleasantly surprised. Great video nonetheless!
Thanks for the kind words and the feedback! I think you are definitly right. I shall endevour to give some kind of demonstration of sound and such the next time so it is clear what I am talking about :)
Such a great usage of descriptive adjectives. You got a sub.
Thank you very much :)
This game looks amazing using a oled monitor.
Awesome! It is a great looking game overall. The city feels alive.
I waited 4 years before starting cyberpunk but glad i waited cause now im hooked and with phantom liberty got me addicted as well
I am glad to have waited too. There are people who enjoyed the initial release - which is great - but I think engaging with it now everything has been sorted, is a good thing.
im happy you enjoyed the game and had so much positivity to share about it
It is good fun. Really solid game for people who like city builders.
Huge thanks for covering the game, matey! It was a fun watch!
Yargh! No worries. It's good fun! :)
really great review, thanks for your time
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching! :)
Excellent.
I'm disappointed the EU initiative has lost steam. There are hardly any new people signing. I really hope some bigger creators promote it.
I wish I as a British person could sign it.
One person developed this and made the engine? That would even be impressive if the game was bad.
That is what it states on Steam. They have done a good job - I feel :)
Its improved on ps5 for sure and have had few crashes. Used to be soooo bad! They took out a few quests i remembered but never were brought up in the update and phantom liberty is fun. Toguh even on easy but fun and yea i play on easy i loke story vs trying to not die 😅😅😂😅😅
Should mention hubby got me back into playing it and I restarted all v's I had. Took a break from bg3 and am not regretting the 125 h I put in the last month. 😂
@@CharLynnWiegel I am glad it is running better on the PS5. I didn't have too many problems with my playthrough, which is good. BG3 is a great game for sure. I put a good few hours into it myself :)
@@balidorf8573 I have over 716 on bg3 waiting for the patch 7 to start run 10? I have only finished one.
@@CharLynnWiegel All the different options and decisions make it very replayable for sure :)
Great review my man, subscribtion acquired :)
Thank you! :)
I can’t believe it’s been out for 4 years. The older i get the faster time goes by lol
I hear you!
It's still good with Xbox One, I have been playing it like that since launch, until about a month ago when I got a series x
Nice! I am glad to hear it working alright on that console. :)
This is one of the rare comeback stories in gaming. Hope I get a chance to play it someday. Great review as always!
Thank you and yeah, you gotta play it :)
The modding scene is pretty extensive. Already added 100 or so and its been fun. Some minor Modders need to update to 2.13 though
Awesome. I haven't tried any mods. I think I might need to check some out :)
havent watched the video yet, yes play this game no matter what year it is!
It is deinitely worth a play :)
I started playing this game in March of 2022...shortly after the 1.5 patch dropped, clearing up most of the serious bugs from the game's release. it was well worth playing _then_ ...and it has only gotten better with subsequent patch releases. I regard it as a masterpiece and have thousands of hours in the game.
I am glad you are digging it. I imagine it must have been pretty sorted out by 2022. This is the first time I played it and to me it is brilliant. It is a must play :)
Can confirm. In 2nd play through. Cp2077 is amazing
Awesome you are digging it. Definitely worth another go :)
Looking forward to you reviewing Phantom Liberty.
I am looking forwarding to playing it but going to leave it a while and come back to it. after a few other games and hopefully on sale :)
Clear and on point. That's how reviews should be. 9:23 This is my favorite point in the video. CP77 has great RPG mechanics, very fun gameplay, music, and a lot of other stuff, but its core strength lies on its storytelling, and the side quests with the side characters actually have some of the best ques stories I've ever experienced in gaming, so I really hope new players don't ignore them. CP77 is best played by taking your time to stop and smell the roses so to speak. About fashion and how it's a bugger that you won't see your character most of the time because it's first-person only - I understand many people want to see their characters while they're playing the game, but the game at least has a a really good photo mode and the virtual photography community of CP77 is very alive in X and IG, so if you wanna show off your character with other players, it's actually a really good game for that. Especially since there are a ton of outfit mods being released almost daily on nexusmods. Just check out the CP77 virtual photography community in IG and X and you'll see how great the outfit mods are.
Thanks! :) I totally agree. The storytelling here is extremely good. CD Project Red are great at this stuff. The side quests are their own wonderful things that I would also recommend everyone try out. I think the quality and effort put into the smaller stuff is really what makes a game great. Very interesting about the photo community. I have to say I haven't checked out the modding scene. I imagine that must be a whole thing in of itself! :)
😊Great video as usual.
Thank you! :)
Great review. I love that you've put into consideration the good feelings you get when you are playing a good game. There are games you know years from now will be popping up in your mind and your heart. That's a genuine review.
Thank you very much for the kind words :)
Thanks, I love 2D space games. I tried making one myself as you can see on my YT channel. I didn't know about Star Valor, so added it to my wish list. I also recommend "Reassembly" if you want to try something a bit different as well. Cheers
Would you say Star Valor or Starcom: Nexus is the "better" game?
I think they are different enough to both be good in in their own ways. Starcom has the ship building and a more of a focused story where Star Valor has more of a sandbox approach with you doing what you want. Both are good! The New Starcom game is out now also which I will personally check out as well :)
Thanks for the great review. Oh, wise wizardry one ... yep, I've also been looking closely at the Starcom games. I'm definitely interested in the latest one, "Unknown Space", which from what I can tell, is a basically a newer version of this game. I'm hoping "Unknown Space" will be discounted in the upcoming Next Fest (fingers crossed). This game "Nexus" is currently reduced on Steam so I'm definitely gonna grab it 👾
@@sidmcmillan926 Thanks for the kind words. You may see something about the new game quite soon... :)
Thanx for the vid! I'd like to try this out but looting (especially filtering) and crafting seems a bit confusing with all the glyphs and runes. Any advices?
Hey! There is an in game guide that covers pretty much everything in Last Epoch which you can reference when you need. It can seem quite daunting but the best advice would be to just get stuck in and you will pick up things as you go along. Besides that, there are quite a few beginners guides about some of the systems on TH-cam that might be worth a watch. The game is pretty well supported by the community which is great. :) www.lastepochtools.com/ is a good one to check. I hope that helps.
Good points put across for both now and then.
Thanks you!
Not vetter, just novel. They were a new c9ncept when I was a kid, so it wasn't about the quality. It was novelty, and being part of an evolution of something. There were actual leaps and bounds back then, you could actually see the progress in action. When my neighbor had an Intellivision, we all jammed over to his house after school. But when I got the Atari, everyone ran ro my house. Football went from 3v3, to 5v5, and when Tecno came out, wow! Then Madden! Wowwee wow wow! Actual development from teal developers. Innoators, really Now, there is no industry growth, just more menory for larger maps, beighter explosions, and horses that poop. There are sequels upon sequels because video games are old hat now. The novelty has worn off and they are just another thing in the world.
You are right. The jump in fidelity and capability back then was so much greater. It was good times, all at a friends house to play whatever the new cool thing was. The industry now does seem more cynical too but there is also some good stuff out there :)
Great video.
Thank, you, sir! :)
Not necessary better, but surely different. All the multiplayer games are now life services. I remember grinding on Halo Reach to obtain all the cosmetics, now you can still do that but with the option of putting in real money, it just kills the experience. Microtransaction are gone way too far on multiplayer games. Single players game are not much different, the only AAA games that we experience are new chapters of already famous brands, there is no innovation on a gameplay perspective. Even successful games like Hi-Fi Rush saw its team to get dismantle. This is really sad... Nice video man :) Happy that you mentioned outstanding games like Grim Dawn and PoE
I am not an ancient gamer so I don't have nostalgia glasses on. If you ask what is the best game for X genre you usually get a game over 15 years as answer. And when I play those old games I find them very often to be better than the modern games in that genre.
@nafas3278 Thank you for the nice words! I agree with you. Things are very different. A lot of the highly commercial games are riddled with examples of greed, especially multiplayer games. It is always sad to see smaller studios being closed even when they have created good games that have sold well. Innovation mostly seems to exist in the Independant studios and those larger companies still with gamers at the helm. I am sad younger gamers didn't experience the before times.
@@TK_zerrivet There are a lot of truely iconic and wonderful games from the past. I somewhat envy anyone that has yet to play any of the oldies. You get to experience them for the first time! :)
Great video, Balidorf! Video games have definitely saved my life on many occasions. Infact, they are one of the only things that enable me to switch off from perseverative thoughts and allow my body to attempt to relax. It's just a shame I don't have more time to play the more social types of games that I used to enjoy.
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it :) Gaming really can be a great source of relexation and 'me' time. I am sorry you don't get to play as much!
The game overall looks fun, i liked the skill system and the crafting system BUT the campaign is so boring that i still didn't complete it, i just cant, it doesn't give you the drive to keep going, and the music is boring as well and not suited to the situation you are in like combat or boss fight i was kind of disappointed that i even didnt get to the endgame and set the game aside
I understand about the campaign. I think they are slowly building up the end game and other features with constant updates which is good. Have you tried Grim Dawn? Probably my favourite ARPG :)
@@balidorf8573 played grim dawn alot back in the days and really enjoyed it, at some point it got too hard to get the items i needed for the build i was going for and dropped it, i will give another go when the new expansion releases, the visuals is the only drawback of this game
@@udishuker1 Fair enough. Might be worth checking it again with a new char :) It is a bit dated but I think both the combat and the various systems are great. I actually like the story as well. I was hoping to get the new expansion this year but looks like 2025 sadly!
I've got the reflexes of a sedimentary rock & rarely have had the resources to game due to my own disabilities, but I find pleasure, comfort, inspiration, & interesting ideas as well as refuge in the videos some gamers make, esp long form analyses + retrospectives of older titles. Thank you, Old Dwarf, Wise Dwarf.
Thanks for the reply! I am glad you enjoyed the video and sorry to hear you are dealing with your own difficulties. This old dwarf shall go forth and make more videos, which hopefully you will also enjoy :)
Great video dude, I hope this video will reach people that have the same struggles . It’s good for people to know they are not alone. Video games have been given negative press for so long and it’s good to see how our hobby helps people rather being used as a scapegoat for negative behaviour.
Thank you for the nice words. Hopefully it perhaps helps some people understand the good things in this hobby and maybe let them know there might be others experincing something similar. :)
Shame it does not have more views, keep it up mate.
Thanks for the kind words. It seems to have meant something to a few people at least :)
TH-cam recommended this video to me and i almost cried(i have undiagnosed depression and have been feeling bad for a couple of years now with bad thoughts from day to night)i also have what seems to be chronic pain all over my body(i am 24 years old). Video games have been the hobbies that i use to silence my mind from all of the negative chatter or at least put them on the side,i like to play jrpgs due to the turn based combat, worlds and characters. I recently played disgaea 2 and absolutely loved it,grinding my characters and creating new units was very fun to me and made me forget about my situation.
Thank you for the comment. I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having. Gaming can really help with things and I am glad you are getting some respite through them. I can understand the enjoyment of turn based games; you can stop whenever you want which is great. I don't know your situation of course, but I would perhaps suggest seeing a GP or what have you - even for just a chat. There is help out there that might be beneficial :)
