Before the outbreak of the epidemic, there were over 400000 foreigners living in Shanghai. Shanghai is a relatively dynamic and inclusive city, and it is also a very modern city.

I was going to ask if it is the one in Xujiahui? You just said it is. My parents used to go to this church often when they were back in China. As per my mom, we were all baptized in this church. Now we live in USA, but I miss my hometown. My mom recently said she wanted to go to this church when we go back to China. Planning to visit next year. Thanks for your great video.

What a beautiful building! Thank you for introducing it to us and indeed, it helps to dispel the relentless lies that religious freedom does not exist in China. Naturally, it may not be in the form as demanded by Westerners but then again, nobody beside the Chinese has the right to have a say in this matter.
At the very least, we can see that this is an authentic church and not some 'state sponsored cult of Communism / Catholicism) as many China haters will declare.

This is a really hard topic. This realies heavily on the definition of religious freedom. What it means to be Catholic other than faith is the supremacy of the bishop of Rome, and China has repeatedly denied that. It has denied the 2000 year old perogative for the bishop of Rome to freely apoint bishops. It mandates that in every church there be a secular picture of the leader. It mandates it's control over Christ's church. Can you say this is religious freedom? A freedom of belief, at a point sure, but religion is also practice. It has arrested Cardinal Zhen (now realeased), who was a stawart figure for the underground church. it has tortured and killed Francis Xavier Ford, God's servant.
      Please atleast acknowledge this.

I agree that it should lie with the Chinese, and Chinese catholics exist. Should for example a population have the right to deprive someone of a right especially when does not threaten anybody.
Should a population have the moral and legal perogative to for example expel the Jews. I don't think so. While it is for the Chinese to govern their own Country. Things should, can, and must be criticised when possible. To deny that is to deny the truth. To deny it is to be a sheep.

The freedom to have a religion in china has been implemented in china's law, however you shouldn't influence, persuade or forcefully ask somebody to believe one's belief, that's their ethic

In other words a Crusade in forcing others to believe in a religion is unlawful like how the west has conducted itself onto others throughout history !

First of all, the Vatican signed a provisional agreement with the Chinese government in 2018 on the appointment of Bishops in China, and all Chinese bishops in China are now approved by the Pope. While some issues may still remain, the Catholic Church in China is now in full communion with Rome. Secondly, even before 2018, both Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul recognized that Catholics in China, including those from officially sanctioned churches were part of the universal Catholic Church, and even approved some bishops appointed by the Chinese government at that time. As for "It mandates that in every church there be a secular picture of the leader", I've been to several official Catholic churches in China, and I've never seen any "secular picture of the leader". On the contrary, I've seen some churches putting up the pictures of Pope Francis. There might be some chuches having "secular pictures of the leader", but there is no nationwide mandate for that.
"You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with the wicked to act as a malicious witness."

@@jbt6010 Giovanni Peng Weizhao, was installed as auxiliary bishop in Jiangxi, which is not recognized as a diocese by the Vatican. In April 2023, Bishop Shen Bin, formerly Bishop of Haimen, was installed in the Diocese of Shanghai, with the Vatican learning of the appointment only a few days before.
Chinese Catholics are still Catholics yet you must see that the Chinese Government is standing in between the universal jurisdiction of Rome. The illicit appointments of Bishops is one of the worse things. If there is no issues or problems or exterior motives it would not be Illicit.
Every Catholic should pray for the underground church in China of which the faithful does not compromise any bit of their faith. I suggest you pray for the intercession of Our Lady of China so that her immaculate heart may enlighten the CCP to lift all restrictions it places on Faithful Catholics.
And let us not forget the politically motivated arrests of holy men and women. I am glad that there are Chinese who are Catholics sanctioned by the Government, but it is far from an ideal situation.
Thus, I still maintain my conviction of a lack of religious freedom.
