Thank you for showing the powers of vector trimming. I am a developer on the Fresco team and implemented this feature, so it's wonderful to see how this feature is used by artists! I have one small tip to share. You can also draw over multiple lines when triming to trim many line segments at once. Thank you, Chris!
Definitely have been using vector trimming since using Fresco. Coming from Illustrator app it's just great to have that clean edges and corners. Completely changes your workflow and makes those curved lines so much more natural. I hate using the eraser tool now with a pixel brush. I've gotten spoiled! Great tip to share with the community!
Hi Chris, thanks for the amazing videos and for putting this channel together. I have been trying to go full time as an artist for years, and I have tried many many iPad apps, and nothing clicked, nothing felt natural. I recently caught one of your videos, tried Fresco, and bang, the penny dropped! Fresco feels natural, my artwork has a real presence all of a sudden, and your tutorials have been a total game changer for me. So thanks again, truly, your vector workflows have reinvigorated my work and inspired me to continue the goal of going full-time!
God, how grateful I am that I came across your channel on TH-cam! I’m just learning Fresco and I’ve already learned so much! Thank you! I am delighted with your style and your work)
I went to bed last night thinking that I needed to learn how to trim vectors. Woke up and turned on TH-cam. (I watch/listen to YT while I get ready each morning.) And there was this video... all hot off the presses. Thanks so much! Love your channel. Stay out of my thoughts now. 😜
I'm glad to see other apps picking up the features! As a Clip Studio user, it's been a life saver to do quicker lineart, because we don't have to worry about the perfect overlaps anymore :D
For those that have not been in the graphic design industry as long as an old fart like me has.....let me assure that this feature is mind blowing!!!! HUGE DEAL!!! AWESOME video Chris!!
🤯🤯🤯 WUUUUUUUT. Was wishing for a solution to this problem, literally, last night. Didn't even imagine it existed, let alone search for it, and your video came up in my feed. Thank you for the obvious hard work and tone you put into your content. Just fantastic.
@@chris-piascik Yes - all hail the algo. Is there a trick to make this work where a single line overlaps itself? Or are we stuck with eraser trimming in those cases? Seems only to work where two lines intersect.
love your channel ! and really love adobe fresco. many of my art friends uses procreate but it feels way too robotic.. the first time i used fresco, the pencil felt so NATURAL (kyle webster is really brilliant) i was instantly hooked and orderd myself Ipad pro. glad to see fresco be so versatile with vector. hopefully fresco gets the recognition its deserves and you as the frontman, because your videos are so well done !
*Clip Studio Paint* (CSP) has had this feature for many years and you're right: It's awesome! I use it for everything from the roughest layout to finished inks. I got Fresco just recently for its watercolors but was excited to hear about its "Vector Trimming." Probably not enough to make me wanna leave CSP (it just has SO MANY great features), but this is very cool, indeed!
Just discovered your channel. I’ve been using procreate for a while now, but I’m really excited to try out fresco. I’ll be watching and following along with your fresco 2023 video. Thanks for posting this stuff, super helpful and well done. You got yourself another subscriber.
3:35 -I don't know if this is blowing your mind, but every single time I'm doing this I'm very excited about it. I just said the same thing to! The excitement!! :)
It's basically doing a pathfinder op, e.g. the path features in Illustrator. It's cool (similar, in principle, to one of the drawing features we have on our platform). Thank you once again for a clear illustration of features, Chris 😁👍
I know this isn't related to this video. But do you know if you can edit the hue/saturation of an individual layer now in Fresco, without using a separate adjustment layer? Great videos btw
Thanks! Yes you can. On the right side of the screen you'll see an icon right above the .... for image adjustments. To make it only pertain to a specific layer just tap the clipping mask icon right above that one. You can apply that to groups as well, which is pretty cool.
Subbed. I'm loving your Fresco tutorials and slowly leaving my Procreate lol. Are there any in-app purchases on Fresco and if there is, what would you recommend?
Thanks! The only purchase option is if you want to go from the free version to full version. The full version is 9.99 per year and allows you to import your brushes and gives you more creative cloud storage.
Any tips for connecting lines cleanly? New to digital and similar to how you did the mouth there’s always a line weight difference in the start and end of my lines. Specifically with snapping perfect shapes as well
Thank you for your videos!! I’m making the switch from procreate so these have been a life saver Question, what’s the criteria for the trimming to work, I’ve noticed that if I do one full stroke it’ll remove the whole stroke but if I parse it out then I have more control over what it’s removing. Does that make sense?😅
Yeah that would be cool, but the reason it’s possible is because oh how vector art it built on points and curves. Pixel based art is basically like painting.
I’ve customized it a bit, I don’t use the taper settings, I just have my pressure dynamics set so I can get a slight taper by lifting a bit at the end of my lines. It’s pretty straightforward settings wise, but I do have my presets available on my website. One of my most recent videos talks about how to make your own custom vector brushes as well.

Weird, how did it get spoiled? Did you try sending the file directly to Illustrator?
How could I send it directly to illustrator? It exports the file in PNG/jpg/ PDF, so I exported in pdf and opened the pdf in illustrator.
in the export options there is an option to "Open a copy in illustrator on ipad or desktop"
