Quick and Easy ONE LIGHT Portrait Tutorial and How to Set Up a SIMPLE Home Based Photography Studio

  • Join me as I go through the essential equipment needed to create a simple Home Based Photography Studio. Aside from this, I will also be doing THREE LIGHTING DEMOS using just 1 Sony Speedlight. (F60RM) I hope after this video you will be inspired to start honing your craft at home and maximize the potential of your one light.     The last set-up blew my mind. High key portrait with just a speedlight, diffuser and white bg. Never imagined that was possible. Thanks for sharing and making videos they are a big help. Hope you can share more lighting setups using this basic equipments.

    So thanks to you I just used my aputure 120D mark ii with the mini dome in a way that would never cross my mind. Removed the grid, folded the diffusion in half, so the diffuse part was lighting me up and the not defused half was casting light onto the white background. I placed piece of white reflective cardboard on the opposite side under lower angle so I would remove the harsh shadow on my neck and voila, high key portrait with just one light. No other lights to lit the background were necessary. You are great teacher. Thank you!

      It’s a lot of fun, because you can independently control the direction of your light, consider the diffuser a fixed window and in your hand is the sun (flash) you can control how high or low and where it’s facing

I would like to ask the result you show at 09.38-09.40 - it looks like the light is shining through teh background, but it's only the reflecting light? Kindly regards

    Great tutorial! I have a soft box not a flash light, will it still work if I position it in same place as you placed the diffusers? I also noticed you didn't turn off room ambient light, was this on purpose?

      firpofutbol the flash is so much stronger than than ambient light that it doesn't affect the exposure.

      If I turned off the light then you would be able to see what I was doing. I mentioned in the start of the video too what I did to my ambient light. Nope it will not work because you need a source of light inside your softbox

      @@JiggieAlejandrino sorry I forgot to mention the soft box has a light source inside. It is not a strobe though, just light bulbs that remain on.

    Nice this will help for a Diy studio. How bout using octobox instead of Direct flash sir? because I do have Godox V1 with 90cm octobox. My gear is 5d markiii with sigma art 85mm art 1.4

    Thanks thanks for the video. I am little confused about the placement of light for the third scenario.
    ...I saw the video again and it show light going to back drop and diffusor both. Angle and distance matters here I guess

    Always good videos with excellent information. When the model is holding the reflector he/she can not concentrate on expression, body position, where their face is to the light and their arms are not it a good portrait position.

    while i THOUGHT ive been subscribed and watching for the last couple of years, this must be just before i started. the mkIII sony vs your new mk IV and Coco's hair is so LOOOONG!
    i think your studio is just a little less evolved.
