    Hi , glad i saw this video. A while ago i got interested in bonsai's while visiting a local Belgian plant shop . I have purchased a Chinese Elm myself , a couple off weeks ago but it already starts loosing leafs after turning yellow first .
    Now , i have put it as close as possible to the window to catch the (sun)light , water him like in the video and every 3 weeks i add a bit of liquid fertiliser . I hope to see the progress of those Elms within a few weeks and my Chinese elm of course :-).
    Hope to see more of these video's .

    Thank you for this video! My elm looks very similar to your example, only the leaves on it are dried up. When I bought it, I purchased a tray with rocks and once a week have been watering the top of the soil until the rocks in the tray underneath get filled. Then I pour the water off of them. But it looks to me like it's not getting enough water, so I'm going to try your method. I'm hopeful that with your watering method, my tree will begin looking like your recovering tree. Thanks again. I'm going to watch more of your videos if you have them.

    Wish you publish another video on Chinese elm.
    I am with this bonsai hobby for some years. All of my bonsai were purchased at a bonsai stage, meaning trunks were already artistically trained/curved. Now I am interested to train roots the trunk by myself. I bough a baby Chinese elm and wondering how to train its trunk .
    I liked this video because it was so clear. Appreciate if you kindly upload another video addressing trunk design/training issue.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge, my first Bonsai (Chinese Elm) has had all its leaves turn brown. I think the issue is most certainly the variable temperature of the location they lived in. (Now moved to a temp stable environment) Currently trying out the recovery tip, I will let you know how it goes. Thank you and keep the videos coming, they're great!

    I've just rescued one that was severely neglected on a supermarket shelf - looks very similar but some of the leaves had browned. I know most likely it will need repotting but not sure when is the best time to. I will start with letting it soak in water for 10 mins every few days - will be exciting if I can get the same results as in your video =D

    Great video on the Chinese Elm; much added value. I am new to Bonsai. I bought a Chinese Elm which had a nice 2 -3 inch trunk but the grower pruned all the lower branches and only left the crown. How could I get branch growth lower on the trunk? Thank you for all the very helpful Bonsai information.

  • @BabulAli
    @BabulAli 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I started with two Chinese Elm Bonsai trees, the one I have at work is flourishing, a few yellow leaves here and there but it's almost November so it's autumn in England, but it's sprouting new leaves so I am not worried. The other one I have at home, I bought because I saw it neglected at a shop and it was dying. I stupidly thought I needed to re-pot it because I thought the soil wasn't good. So I bought bonsai soil but the problem was when I put it in it's bath all the soil was washing away, so i stopped doing it and instead got a mini watering can to spray the soil with water but 85% of the leaves had fallen off. Hence why I searched for this video. I will get some top soil from my garden tomorrow and secure it properly and start giving it baths again. Additionally I noticed the leaves turned brown rather than going yellow like the one I have at work, I now know it's because of the variable temprature in my house. I turn the heating off during the day because I'm at work and put the heating on when I'm back in. The fluctuation of the temperatureis clearly doing it no good. So I will make a mini greenhouse for it so the temperature change isn't so dramatic. I hope to come back with good news in a few weeks. Thank you for this video, scraping the bark (it's still fresh green) has reassured me that I can save the bonsai I have at home.

    Same thing happened to my one, i gave it a hard prune back, stuck it in a bigger pot with more compost, fed it with some feed and stuck it outside and it recovered really well, they seem to prefer the outdoors alot more then indoors but im just speaking from my experience rather then being a expert.

    So when we soak it for a few days should it be placed directly in a sunny location it does seem to do better in the sun but i seem to be moving it in the morning from shaddy table to sunny windowsill, is that bad to move it around? I have a counter w fluorescent lights, is that better,so i dont have to keep on moving it to the window. I would like to see how much sun it sb getting. Thank you

    Thank you so much for your video, I'm glad I've found it. I have recently repotted a Lemon bonsai tree and an Olive bonsai tree, both look very unhealthy, but still alive (I've done the scraping test). I am watering them once every week, as I thought I might've been overwatering them. Any thoughts on what I could try? It's been about 2 months since I've repotted and I can't see any new growth, in fact the leaves are actually starting to turn yellow. Thanks

  • @Thefi5thdnb
    @Thefi5thdnb 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    cheers my elm was ok for a few months since july when i got it. for the last few weeks all the leaves have gone and no new growth. I think this is due to me watering less than I should as its winter now i didn't think it needed as much and its kept indoors so i think i've under watered it.
    i've just popped it into the sink and filled up to the top of its tray and its sucked in 1/3 of the water i put in the sink. Im going to repeat this every few days or so and see what happens.
    thanks for the advice i'll let you know if it works.

    I'll give this a go! Unfortunately my tree had a pest infection and didn't handle it well. It's alive but leafless. Before this I had the idea that maybe I should replace the soil, but perhaps I'll do this first.

  • @robertmacnair
    @robertmacnair 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good "to the point video", probably 99% of bonsai 'disasters' are down to lack of water/incorrect watering....Immersion, as you demonstrate, is the safest and easiest method of watering....Just remember to do it! A little additional point (and you do mention it), is after immersing the pot in water, allow it to thoroughly drain out the excess water before placing the tree back on the drip plate. We have a number of trees that come back where the tree has been regularly watered (or over watered) and the drip tray is permanently full of water.....this then blocks the drainage hole in the base of the pot which must be clear of the water to allow air flow which is essential to tree health; blocked drainage holes will lead to root-rot...in turn leading to a bonsai disaster....My thoughts are basically; get the watering right and you are on the road to success with your bonsai!

    It's being 1 month that I got my Bonsai fukien. It's really frustrating to see leaves are turning black and falling. I water it when the soil get dry but after both direct or drain watering the leaves falling a lot. in the other hand new leaves coming up but not enough to cover fallen leaves. 😞
