The town of Lancaster played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War, as it was a major center for the production of munitions.
During the Civil War, troops led by General William Tecumseh Sherman occupied Lancaster as they made their way to Virginia after the Southern campaign in 1865. Union soldiers attempted to set fire to both the Courthouse and the Jail during their occupation.

Here in Pennsylvania there’s a city with the same name and it’s pronounced both ways also
I am from North Carolina so I say that Andrew Jackson was born here. The Andrew Jackson State Park is his SC birthplace, but a large marker is just across the state line for the NC birthplace.

York and Lancaster Counties were named after the War of the Roses. York and Lancaster Counties are also beside each other in Pennsylvania.

If you looked at the county seal on the building with all the famous people that were born in Lancaster SC. My daddy designed the county flag and seal he doesn't like to take credit for it. And Julie Roberts the country sing was born and raised in Lancaster
