You are very lucky to meet someone like Mr. Henry, there are many Indonesian people who are kind like him, it's just that finances do not allow us to treat guests like he does, sometimes we want to invite foreign tourists to stay and eat with our family, but sometimes we feel embarrassed because we cannot serve food according to western tastes, we are afraid that the guests will feel uncomfortable, forgive us who can only say hello and smile friendly to you, we only have one hope, let us respect each other as our ancestors taught us,
Yeah lucky indeed. It's good to get real local experience with local people. I think shouldn't be embarrassed, not all foreigners come from rich background neither and usually people who travel a lot, understand those things and don't judge circumstances of people. Respect ❤️

After living in Indonesia since 1993 it makes me laugh (in a good way) when visitors come here and are brave to try local food etc. it reminds me of how foreign things were when I first came to Indonesia. Now it's just daily life for me. It's so much easier now for tourists. One feels a bit like a duck out of water but it great to see you trying stuff. I sincerely hope you enjoy your stay in Indonesia. Probably not a good idea to yell out at people in public, it kind of makes it okay for them to do it to us. Creates a bit of a burden for those of us who live here. But as Indonesians like to say "up to you".😂
@@Gymson clearly meant with good intentions but yelling out at people is not a socially acceptable thing to do. Indonesians are generally a tolerant bunch and even if they weren't happy with you calling out at them, they would mostly stay quiet in their judgement. You were obviously enjoying your new found language skills and that's a good thing. Whilst I may have been here for 31 years, speak Indonesian fluently and have more or less adjusted to the Indonesian culture... I quite often find Indonesians adapting to what they perceive are norms in western culture. Quite often too, that behaviour isn't what we'd expect in a respectful interaction. It does make it difficult for those of us who live here permanently because we are in a constant battle to re-educate Indonesians in appropriate interactions with westerners. Could you imagine spending every day of your life being yelled at "Hey Mister" or even worse 'Hey Bule"... Trust me, it wears thin. Anyway enough of my gripes, I do wish you a very pleasant remainder of your stay in Indonesia. It is truly a magical country.
