This is quite a special video for me. All the conversations and stories embedded in this role play can be traced back to my mother, Patricia. My mother was a creative, vivacious, elegant, and compassionate woman. Among her many talents was sewing. I've never known anyone who loved to create beautiful things out of fabric as much as she did. She made clothes for me and my brother from my earliest memory, and only 18 months before she died, she fulfilled her dream of making my wedding dress from a pattern of her own design. If you’d like to see that dress, it is featured in this video: th-cam.com/video/13K_8wTpitE/w-d-xo.html Going to the fabric store with her was a regular thing. In fact, I got to know the manager at Jo-Ann Fabrics so well that she eventually hired me while I was in high school. I had a lot of fun pulling details from my memory to make this video. I hope you enjoy it. The video features a 21-minute section of fabric unrolling, measuring, smoothing, cutting, and folding that starts at 19:56. You’ll also hear the crinkly sounds of old zipper packages and occasional soft-spoken customer service sprinkled throughout.
What a lovely touching story Sherri. It does look authentic and a sweet photograph too. I will watch fully tomorrow and give it the attention it deserves. Asmr perfection, thank you 💕
Over the moon awesome. So silly, sitting here crying because.... I miss your mom, even though I don't know her. I can't help but imagine that she would be so thrilled with what you're doing! 🍃
My mom passed 11 months ago. The love & grace you have for your mom is palpable This video was very, very sweet (& also excellent ASMR!) & i thank you for another daily reminder of my incredible mommy too, thinking about her are some of the happiest moments in my days (that is, when they're are not the hardest moments.)🤍❤️🤍
Oh, my! Your loss is so fresh. I haven't felt my mom's cheek against mine for 22 years. Sooo long ago, but also just yesterday. She is with me wherever I go, whatever I do. She had a crooked smile, as do I. So if I want to see her, sometimes I just look in the mirror and smile. 😌 I'm so glad you told me about your incredible mommy. The love changes us, doesn't it? 🌸
What a lovely tribute to your mom. My mother also made clothes for us. Matching outfits for her, me, and my doll. One Christmas she made a whole Barbie wardrobe. My mother also passed away 2 years ago at 94. The women of our mother's generation were amazing women. May they rest in peace.
Oh my, Annie. Thank you for sharing this with me. It’s wonderful to come across others who have had similar experiences. My mom also made Barbie clothes for me. 👱🏼♀️👗 She never ever bought Mattel clothes. And then she eventually taught me. ☺️🥹
As someone who works there in the present day, it's very clear to me you worked there in the past because of all the little details I can point out and be like "that's such a Joann thing!" I might be 6 months late, but I love this video so much, you don't even know.
Oh, I love this comment so much!! ☺️☺️Worked there in late high school/early college, and just loved it. My mom and I were such regulars there throughout my childhood. Loved sitting down with her at the pattern catalog table and picking out the next blouse or skirt (or even jeans jacket) that she was going to make for me!!! Btw, I have an ironing video of that jeans jacket, complete with the cute little woodland embroidery. You can find it here: ASMR * Ironing Denim * Steam Sounds * Vintage Fabric Handling * 1950s 1960s (No Talking) th-cam.com/video/jw_fx8s2Ypg/w-d-xo.html
What a loving tribute to your mom...my mom sewed all of my clothes, too, growing up in the 60's. Looking back on it now, I think the crinkly sounds of the pattern tissue and the scissors cutting the fabric at the store were one of my very first ASMR experiences. Enjoyed this very much : )
Thank you, PJL. 😌💚 I’m glad the video brought back memories for you-and I’m happy to hear that you had similar experiences with your mom. I loved (and still love) the sound of a straight pin piercing a pattern being pinned to the fabric. Talk about rarified ASMR trigger preferences!! 😂😂
Some of my first ASMR experiences in real life were from fabric shops as a child!! My mom did a lot of sewing projects and I loved going to the store and watching them measure and cut fabrics. I am ecstatic for this video.
So beautiful dearest lady, especially the family photograph you shared with us!!!. Precious memories of shopping the Woolworths fabric counter with my Grandma...
😮 that pattern and fabric are SO SIMILAR to a dress my mom made in the early 70’s (she was a seamstress too, made so many of my clothes as a kid). Her in that dress, leggy, big hair, frosted blue eyeshadow, is my absolute favorite Polaroid of her. A video about your mom brought a favorite memory of my mom 🥰
I love the image you paint of your mom in that Polaroid. I can imagine every bit of it. Especially the big hair and blue eyeshadow-and I’m guessing an overall orange/yellow hue from the Polaroid itself? I’m so so happy my video triggered that memory for you. 🫶🏼
@MidModMeridianASMR She crotcheted baby blankets for everyone! She knew everyone in her town and was a real tough lady. She always took me to road island with her. She would have been 79 on Dec 7th and she loved me more than anyone did.
She sounds like an amazing part of your life. My mother would have been 86, so pretty close to your grandmother’s age/generation, but I lost her when she was 61. I can assure you, though-they never leave us. This channel is 100% inspired by my mom. When I make videos, I get to be with her every day. 🌺
My first experience with what we now know as ASMR was going to the fabric store with my grandmother as a child (late 60s, early 70s). I remember looking forward to those trips because of the tingles. I just stumbled onto your channel today, and thank you so much for this video! It triggers both tingles and wonderful memories.
What a bittersweet video. Such a beautiful way to memorialize time with your mother. You are a wonderful woman! Thank you for this unique video, that also reminds me of when my mother picked up sewing for a brief time. 🙏❤️
A perfect tribute to your mom! Had a rather aggravating day at work and this video is very soothing to the ASMR soul right now. Thank you my dear for all the great videos you do! ❤
Video brought back memories of going to fabric stores with my mother back in the 70s. I so enjoyed flipping through the McCalls and butterick patterns. I too had matching dresses with my mother. Great nostalgic video ❤
I just about cried watching this. My Mama passed away at 11:15pm on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022... after a two year battle with terminal Cancer in both her lungs (she never smoked a day in her life). Two weeks before she passed, she also caught Covid (being fully vaccinated helped her)... but she fell and broke her hip in the middle of the night a week after contracting Covid. Her broken hip was too much for her already battered body.... and the Covid ravaged her. She had just turned 66. I'm still not over her loss. We were very close. She taught herself to sew at the age of 13. She could make anything out of fabric. Anything. I just turned 40. I grew up in fabric stores too. Everything about your video is exactly how I remember almost all of my experiences with her in all those fabric stores... right up to the last few months of her life when she could still go out. I would bundle her up & bring her to our local store just so she could sit and be with "the girls". There was something so healing to her soul being there. Honestly, mine as well. I'm weeping tears of happiness & sadness all at the same time. Thank you for making such a wonderful video. Thank you so much. I treasure it. My Mama's name was Doreen Mercer; and I miss her. ❤️❤️
Hi Nancy, I read your comment some months ago but got behind in responding and am only now catching up. But I want to respond to you in particular. So much of what you say here resonates with me. My mom died at 61 after an 8-year battle with ovarian cancer, so every childhood, teenage, or young adult memory I can recall is a gift because my mom was at the center of them all. I'm glad you were able to recover some memories while watching this video. Your message really touched me. Thank you. Sherri 🌺
What a wonderful video! I’m enjoying all the retro themed videos you are making! When you folded over the fabric at the end to prepare for checkout I loved all the lines from the fabric design… truly enjoyed this.. rip to your mom ….
That’s funny. When I was making the video, I was so proud of myself for successfully lining up all the lines on the fabric. Then while I was editing I saw that I had, in fact, not succeeded. 😂😂 Thank you. 😌💚
New subscriber here.... great content. This reminds me a bit of when I was in high school and worked at a dry cleaners... I got lots of tingles from that place - from when customers brought in their clothes in crinkly bags, to coworker's tagging the garments with tickets, to bagging the garments wth the plastic bags.. on and on! Great place for tingles!
This is sooo wonderful! I have such fond memories of the fabric store with my grandmother. So much amazing ASMR with fabric and the measuring and the cutting. ❤
Funny thing, but I remember loving the sound of fabric cutting-specifically the sound of the scissors scooting against the smooth counter mixed with the cutting and fabric sounds. It’s a weird sound to like, but I tried to recreate it when I cut the coat fabric. 😂😂
I remember that same exact sound-your slow cutting was spit on! Something about the older heavy-weight metal scissors against the counter cutting fabric is just divine!!! I’m so thankful it wasn’t just me all these years. 😂😍
Patricia Gail. 😌 She was amazing. I still see her . . . in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. And in my face, whenever I look into the mirror and smile.
