Nothing against Rush and other Canadian bands but Triumph are the best to ever come out of our country. It’s too bad that the business aspect took over and they broke up way too early.
I saw them play in Halifax….best concert hands down

Rick Emmett is a musical genius. My older brother took me to my first 2 concerts as an early teen, UFO in 1980 (I was 13 at SMU Moody Collesium), and Triumph Allied Forces and Thunder Seven tours (within a few years after at the old Reunion Arena in Dallas). I remember Molly Hatchet opening on the Allied Forces tour.
Rush at the time got all the pub as a 3-piece Canadian band and did see them at a Texas Jam in either 86', 87', or possibly 88' (can't remember) and yes, iconic band, but for some reason I just connected with Triumph more. Brutally underrated 3-piece Canadian band and underappreciated in the rock world.
To say I saw Triumph live during their hey day (without realizing it), was a blessing. I'm about to turn 57 now, but still dig these old songs and hearing Rick's voice and guitar prowess!

Ok i have a story....1985 (graduated highschool 1984). I had a friend from work that said she had a friend who just won a radio contest to see Triumph in cert that nt. I agreed to go. Amazing concert. Met the opening act Angel City from Australia. I was a very pure sweet young girl in a sea of skank's (can i say that?) The lead singer looked at them and immediately came over and kissed me on the lips. I was so red i could have lite up the 4th of July (embarrassed). Then i met Triumph. The sweetest men. I knew they were Canadian and told them i just saw Rush and how great it was (nervous banter) and they said they were good friends with them and would tell them. Then when it came time for their autographs, i searched my purse , the only piece of paper i had was my birth certificate ( was using it earlier to get a car). So they all signed the back.

Young Enough to Cry off this same record is written by the dummer Gil Moore and he sings lead on that, great tune. Great tunes from these guys all over the 70s and 80s albums... From the great album, "Just a Game", from 1979 a beautiful tune written by Rik Emmett, a song requesting honesty in people. Rik said it was influenced by Rush, with fabulous vocals and a beautiful blend of great Rock instrumentation. The guitars and drums are so tight and make for a great song. Made it to Number 86 in the US, just a modest hit, but made it up to Number 33 in Canada. Such a great album that folded out to reveal a board game.

Pure and honest. Rush is my favourite but Triumph is a close second. Another trio who know how to make the most with less members. Rik is so underrated it’s criminal. Try Never Surrender or A World of Fantasy.

Triumph is definitely epic. They are different types of bands. I guess it depends on your taste. Rik Emmett is definitely the star of the band for sure and is a classically trained musician too boot. Up and down the fret board long finale songs that get your blood pumping music…totally awesome! Rush on the other hand has 3 band members that are virtuosos on their respective instruments. All three selflessly doing their part for the band in unison. I think if you are a musician you might gravitate to toward Rush for the technical aspect and the intelligent lyrics….Triumph is a great band too and have awesome lyrics also which I love! I’m a drummer so I’m a Peart fan so I have to take Rush. Lol.
We win either way. It’s my opinion only. Good to hear from a brother with great taste!
