    Dynamite information. A lot of hustlers out there saying you need to sign over power of attorney for a big fee and they will submit all information for a permit. Not needed. Very easy to understand the self-done application. Thanks for the tip on Fatih. That's where I am currently living.

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can apply for a short-term residency up to 2 years maximum and then you can reapply again after that. The long-term residency permit allows you to stay in the country indefinitely. You can apply for one after residing in Turkey continuously for 8 years.

    • @jiraiya1231

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes exactly. I made this video because I can speak from experience. However to renew, it will be pretty much the same procedure including all the necessary paperwork as well as I believe you just have to pay taxes for the year. Which you can do at your nearest tax office. But I think once you go through the initial application then the renewal can be very simple.☺️

    • @jiraiya1231
      @jiraiya1231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You sure they wont need anything else for renewal other than 'being there for tourism'. I mean after the initial 2 years for a renewal for a 2nd time they might want some proof of property purchase or business start up etc 🤔

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point. I didn't think of that way. But you're not applying for those specific reasons. I mean one can spend an entire lifetime exploring a country. I assume proof of funds might be all they ask for. And if you get rejected, you can reapply. Or worst case scenario, leave for 90 days and come back. However if your purpose after 2 years is no longer tourism, perhaps one can simply apply for the correct visa type. Property, business, work, student etc.

      Well I think that's if you stay there beyond a year. I was there 9 months. Didn't pay a penny in tax. I after getting my TR just went to Turkcell. They registered me and my phone was free to use.

      @@Livingabroadalex Is it still possible to use hotel Wi-Fi in a hotel room on my phone with my own SIM card without registering my phone? Thanks for your replies!

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Np. Yes you can do that. You just won't be able to make calls, receive messages or use internet via 4G/5G mobile data when you are not in wifi zones. For me I needed internet because I was out and about often and needed directions or something. But if you don't think you'll be in areas without wifi too often then i wouldn't worry too much about it. Ir if you have an old phone bring that too and toss a Turkish sim card in there after 3 months and you'll be good for 6 months using 2 phones. Or just buy a cheap burner phone from Turkey has already paid the taxes 😊

    Hi again :) At the end of the application, it doesn't let me choose from a list of offices to go to. The end screen just shows a few offices and nothing can be clicked. Do I wait for an e-mail to tell me? After the application is done online, do I just wait for them to give me an appointment?

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you will be given the exact address visa email or SMS text or both. With a date address and appointment time. But you can go earlier than the time in your date if you like. It's not really an interview. You simply hand over the hard copy of your application with the required documents and wait to receive your TR card.

      @@Livingabroadalex Thank you! :) The English version of the Ikamet hung suddenly (technical error) and I had to go back and resume with the Turkish language version which was hard and time consuming. I wondered why yours was perfect!

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome! Haha not sure. But the website sucks. If it helps, try using the Turkish version and use Google translate from your phone to scan over the Turkish language with the camera function, so it gets translated to English. Then you can just fill the information that way. It's a pain, but I think it might make the process smoother.

    • @Livingabroadalex

      Absolutely not. Buying a car in Turkey is a complete waste of money in my opinion. It is 3 or 4 times the cost of cars in Canada. You might as well buy a house 😂
      Yes you can get a loan.

    Hi Alex, thank you for the great video! However, towards the end you said that there are instructions for people staying on AirBnB and if possible, I would very much be interested in that. Is there some document explaining what to do? Do I book 1 year in advance and then is the pdf enough for the residency? Do I need a letter from the owner or something? Thank you very much!

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. According to the application page itself it says "if you're staying in a rental home: a rental copy of your agreement : notarized"
      Or "if you're staying in a hotel a proof of your stay"
      Thats the exact words from the application. However it doesn't clearly state what they require so if I was you I would speak with the airbnb owner and ask him to provide you a letter that says that you are renting the home for a year or an actual lease agreement for one year and then have that notarized or basically rent the home with "flexible cancellation" through airbnb then cancel the airbnb for free after you apply for your TR.

    • @raulmspeixoto
      @raulmspeixoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Livingabroadalex Thank you very much. I thought it was something specific to Airbnb. If the owner was to provide the notarized letter, probably it would be easier to just make a cheaper rental contract. I was thinking that if I cancel the airbnb later, I would be breaking the law because we notarized the contract for 1 year and also, if I am supposed to stay in that address. But thank you again, it gave me the idea. I would not cancel but maybe I can get a letter from some airbnb. Thanks for the tips! And btw... I suggest you visit Portugal. A few days in Porto, Lisbon and Madeira island (digital nomads island). Cheers!

      Like I've said before I didn't have to present evidence of my income. But I don't see the issue with it if there's no clear indication of how to present your income to them. Worst case they tell you to print out something. But I don't see the harm in trying. That is if they even ask for it.

      Thank you so much for your kind words, and support 🥳. I'm happy to be helping. Once you submit your online application and then they will send you an address to hand in your paperwork in person. So you will actually go into the government office to submit these documents. You simply go up to the front desk, they collect it and put a sticker on the back of your passport to aknowledge your submission of the application.
