- Here's my original high school car, numbers matching (327 c.u.i.) bought in 1972. Decided to open the headers and cruise around my subdivision a little, but end up ticking off my neighbor. I didn't even drive by his house - he lives up the block the opposite direction. When he heads to the back of my car to take a pic of my license plate, I realize this could turn against me. Funny thing is, he doesn't actually recognize me until I get out of the car - then we "share the love".

At 7:30 am on a Saturday? There are noise ordinances for a reason. If it was after 10 am, OK, but for people that like to sleep in on the weekend, it was quite rude of them.

I have a drag car and of course it has open headers...From time to time I start it up and run it to tune or whatever..Mostly just to hear it run..LOL ..Grant you I don't drive it any further than the end of my driveway.. But I respect my neighbors and only do that in the middle of the day and have never had a complaint...I have friends that live about a mile away and say they hear the car whenever I start it up...

Wow, what memories. I had a gold '65 and had to run open headers until I got the cash to replace them. I was a young volunteer firefighter. When they heard the siren go off they knew I would be blowing up the street. Haha. That said, Dad should have eased it to an industrial area and had a little fun. Love the video.

Beautiful car! Personally I love the sound of open headers, takes me back to my days drag racing in '55 Chevy 2 door post, 327 built and tuned perfectly. Fender well headers enhanced the sound of the bad ass full camshaft and other racing hoodies, 456 rear end, 4 speed, really fast and cool car. Down the side of the car, along with our sponsors, was painted beautifully "COLOR ME GONE" I sure miss the sound of the engine at about 6,800 rpms and the gearing down with the huge flywheel! Sweet! Guys nowadays think they have fast street cars but they ain't seen "fast" until they saddle up a few modified cars back in our day. Every dollar we made went into the car and of course the pretty girls. Sweet memories!
My neighbor & I used to talk daily, til one day I was backing my car into the driveway & he seemed to deem it okay to call my car shit & told me to shut it off. We exchanged harsh words & I make sure to rev it daily shooting in & out of my driveway. You don't come between a man and his passion. loud music, partying, the sound of drunken teenagers, loud swearing & train horns on trucks. Those are annoying sounds but, a gorgeous old race car? Never gonna be an issue for me.

I had a dude revving his hot rod next to my house and it was very irritating. I ran out and stopped him and let him know in no certain words if he was going to do that next to my house he would have to let me ride along. He did as we laughed and became good friends..People don't appreciate the work that goes into these classic beauty's..

karizma8175 I wouldn't mind at all. I would be more disappointed that he didn't lay into in at a minimum first gear and a few thousand RPMs in second. At least the engine would wake you up and remind that life's clock is ticking downward and it is time to get your ass out of bed and do something while you still can.

I bought my 65 SS Impala in Jan. 1965, same color 327 250 hp 4 speed, in 68 I put a 427 245 hp engine with Hooker headers, actually the engine had around 525 hp. I also put a 4:10 posi rear unit and just had so much fun on the street back in 1968 and part of 69. Sold the engine and then sold the car.
I ride a Harley and it is loud. One thing I do not do is rev it and sudo-drag race it through the neighborhood. Have some respect for others.

Back in 75 when I installed the new headers on my 72 demon. And finish at 3 am. And just had to start it with no mufflers. My neighbor just had a baby that was a week old. Boy were they mad at me. So were my parents since their bedroom was right next to driveway. But what a sound. It was great.

Back in 1968, In Farmington Mi. I was 16 and pulled a 6000 RPM hole shot in front of my girl friends house. BOY, here dad got on me big time. The car was a 1965 Impala S.S. convertible, triple black, 409-400 4 speed. GOODTIMES!! Never hit anybody or anything while street racing for 30 Plus years. Some of my cars were 10 sec cars.
Nice Impala. My high school car was a 66 Caprice with the 396. Sold it in 82' to buy a refridgerator when I got married. Gawd I miss that car. 35 years later...here I am looking for another one but I am going with Impala this time. And I like the steering wheel too.

My high school buddy "Larry" was a motorhead. He and his brother Greg always had a hot rod they were building. One of Larry's cars was a burgundy '65 2-door Impala SS with a 283 that had a Z-28 cam in it and a 3sp on the floor. Black interior - buckets in front and bench in back of course. That thing would sit there and smoke the tires for as long as you wanted. It was a fun car!
When i saw the Michelin man bounce out of his tin can , i thought he was bringing you some tires. Some guys lead lives of quiet desperation. He couldn't be Bob Falfa, so he had to be a rat. Thats one bad ass 65 chevy. My dad was an Impala man . Thanks for video.
If you haven' t violated any noise ordinances , you have done nothing wrong. If you're neighbor had a problem with it , he should call the police and not play lawman himself. Driving on the wrong side of the road, driving into on coming traffic, and blocking the roadway are much more serious traffic infractions than noise.

Great video' Years ago a buddy & I did a 350 swap for a guy's 70's corvette with flat top forged pistons, Edelbrock alum heads, & cam & lifter pkg, headers & and 10" converter & such. I drove it open headers to muffler shop while my buddy was at work & first stop sign I come to in his sub there's a guy in a business suit bending down to get his newspaper. I thought, Bummer! He's not gonna like this! The guy stands up, smiles & gives me a thumbs up ! ! ! ;)

I see a few problems here. First off driving aggressively is considered reckless driving. I don't see this guy driving like that.
He pushes down the gas a bit, but he is not doing burnouts. The car is loud however and neighbor's won't like that.
However once again the driver of this car , as far as I can see is only driving around one time. Not all day.
The neighbor that pulled in front of the car to stop it, actually was driving purposely on the wrong side of the street.
He also could have caused an accident if the guy driving the loud car didn't stop.
The complaint to turn off the camera gets me. You have the right to do anything with a camera as long as you are not on someone's private property.
If you don't like something, wait. Give it some time. The guy with the loud car was on his way back home.

Awesome chevy....I just acquired a 1974 stepside. Can't wait to drop a 5 speed, mild cam, vortex heads, edelbrock double pumper, open air cleaner, headmen headers. My neighbors are not a fan of my black stallions in my stable. It reminds people they are loving or hating life.
65's are sweet! I had a '63 back in the day. Always gotta' be one of those Guys around. My neighbor complained about My shovelhead being loud. Cop comes over and He had a Harley too so wound up talking about bikes. He said He just had to come over to make it look good and don't worry about it.
Does anyone know what a car sounds like with open headers? It's fuckin ridiculous and so loud you should have ear plugs in your ears. That would piss anyone off. I have a Chevelle with a 454 big block and the exhaust pipe came unbolted off the header when I was driving once. The headers were on an only one side came undone. It was so loud I couldn't stand it and it scared the hell out of me. It sounded like hell was unleashing Satan. I drove it back home and bolted the pipe back on. Open headers is illegal bcs it creates so much noise pollution it would piss anyone off. A car has exhaust pipes for a reason. And I thought the Chevelle was loud with the Flowmaster Exhaust on it.
When I swapped a mean small block into my Dart this past summer I drove it to the exhaust shop with open headers. I think it's something that everybody needs to experience at least once. Even though it's extremely loud and you'll get a ticket if you're caught, there's something special about a built V8 with no exhaust. Just a big loping cam bellowing out of header collectors. What added to the fun was that my grandpa rode with me to the shop and he bought my car new in '73. I like open headers so much I bought a set of 3" QTP cutouts and had my exhaust guy install the Y pipes for them when he did my exhaust. Now I have open headers on command and flowmasters for when I'm in town. Best of both worlds!

interceptorking technically youre not correct. Its based on the decibel level put out by the car. There are cars that are quiet enough to avoid open headers, aka.....turbo cars can possibly pull it off. Also never found open headers to be too loud, now blow alcohol combinations...thats a different story

The dude that parked his truck right in front of him on the wrong side of the road was the driving idiot. He wasn't being wreckless or driving fast. The sound of his engine with open headers can definatly make his speed deceptive.

Why are people angry at the neighbor? The driver of the chevy is ripping around a quiet neighborhood in a muscle car with open headers. Yes, some people like it. But many don't. You can tell by the mannerisms of buddy's dad, he knows he shouldn't have been getting on it, even as little as he did. All these losers saying the fat guy is an ass - grow up. I'd rather live in a neighbourhood where my neighbors have a civil duty to protect their community. Buddy is simply looking out for those who don't look out for themselves - like kids. …and teens with iPhones. when I break in an engine, I let every neighbor know the time and how long I'll have open headers. It's respectful - which based off these comments, is a hard thing to come by in 2017. Gorgeous car BTW!! I'll probably watch the video again.

Classic case of jealousy. Happens often when my uncle and I take out his 805hp open header drag boat on the Chesapeake bay. Shut it down and hear "thank you" then fire it right back up.
