Harbor Freight BADLAND APEX 5500 Winch and Hitch Winch Mount

We have been looking for a versatile winch set up that we could use around R-Ranch. We wanted a winch that would get the work done without breaking the bank. Initially, we looked at some of the larger winches but decided the BADLAND Apex 5500 would work for everything we needed. We purchased the Winch and the Winch mount from @Harbor Freight

How did you mount the box on top of the winch?

I don’t remember exactly, but if my memory serves me correctly, there are tapped bolt holes on the top side of the winch that gives you multiple ways to mount the winch. I am pretty sure I just bolted the box using the 4 holes on top of the winch.

I believe you’ll run into issues anchoring your winch to the front rail like that. Those rails are pretty weak and over time the stress from winching will cause the to start breaking off down by the trailer deck.

We did reinforce the rail and it’s not used very often. But you may be right! Hopefully it holds out. Thanks for the feedback!!!

The only reason I mentioned it is because for years I used the rails on mine for trying items down. I’ve had to weld reinforcements on all my rails.
