Very interesting you say that, throughout my very short time in Norway, that’s all anyone ever talked about... I must have been told to eat waffles for breakfast at least 30 times via IG messages 🤔 but I respect your opinion and apologize for any confusion or misinformation

Gareth Leonard Waffles are what is always offered anytime someone comes to visit. Friend over? Have some waffles. Family visiting from out of town? Waffles. The more signature breakfasts most Norwegians have is toast or English muffins with something on top, be it just butter, jam, salmon, brunost, etc. That’s going to be the most common in-home breakfast you’ll find ^^

I have never had waffles for breakfest, nor have I ever heard of it. I'm from Oslo though and I can't speak for the whole country. In my family we usually have them for lunch. It's kind of a mid-day snack. I also eat a lot of them every time I go skiing. There are tons of cross country ski tracks in the surrounding forests of Oslo, and along the ski tracks you'll find little and big forest huts serving the craziest waffles.

Its funny to see you come to Norway and try the Narvesen sausage, something us locals never consider anything but a low grade standard sausage that you get if literally everything else is closed. Makes me want to appreciate it more!

Traditional Norwegian breakfast is bread slices with cheese, ham, makrell i tomat, leverpostei or whatever. Waffles are a popular dessert, especially when something happens, some sort of arrangement. 😄👍🏼

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Well you're right, but don't say it *never* happens (if someone wants to personally). But you're right they're not meant for breakfast, more as a dessert or just in some free time, maybe with coffee and sometimes even with other cakes and sweet stuff. I used to visit some friends of my family in the west of Norway, and when guests arrived, they often had these "talking parties" with Norwegian waffles, krumkaker, and other cakes and desserts + coffee and maybe a small shot of liquour in the evening. As a way to simply have a good time with good guests :)

When I was in Oslo I only had like 4 hours. Way too short, but we did see a military helicopter land at the Royal Palace. I tried filming it, but it flew directly above me and the wind nearly swept me off my feet, lol (I was standing on the street, and it was well above me. Just in case anyone is wondering why I got so close to a military helicopter in the first place). And we got to see the Akershus Fortress, which is a pretty cool place.
I hope I can return to Oslo this year. I am even learning norwegian now, maybe I can order food på norsk by the time I get back. It would be pretty cool.
