Hi Roanna thank you so much for your videos, love your authenticity and all the detailed information. Could you do some videos in the future about how you decided on your particular pathway and why you chose to work in child psychology? How hard is it to find work as a clinical psych registrar? Also, is your NDARC work separate from your clinic work?
Hi Ro! Firstly, thank you for your informative videos. They really help demystify alot of the nitty gritty around taking up psychology as a profession. My question is around how you managed living expenses while studying full time. Alot of unis have disclaimers advising that even a part time job will be difficult if you want to perform well in the course (which we all know is a must if you want to get anywhere). Say someone wants to do a 2 year masters or a 3-4 year doctorate of clinical psychology. Do you have any resources that might help in the above context? Many thanks

Hi, I have finished my 3 years of bachelor's in psychology and 2 years of masters in clinical psychology from a ugc recognised university in India. But now I want to practice in Australia, can you brief me on how I shall go about it? I'm super confused!
Thanks for the video! So you do 3 years of undergrad, 4th year of honours, 2 years of Masters or 4 years Masters + Phd (during this time you can work in private practice) and then 60 hours of supervised practice? Do we have to undertake the 60 hours over two years specifically or is it just, 'finish 60 hours, and done'?
So its 352 hours of direct client contact (completed in a minimum of two years) + 80 hours supervision. The 60 hours I beleive is for masters/ PhD. To be honest the exact hour requiresments are a little tricky (there's literally a forum on fb where psychs discuss the breakdown of them) but yes for masters you need a min of 2 years after!
Can you work in your own private practise for the 2 years during supervision? Or you need to work for someone else? I live in a small town. Thanks again Ro. Really helpful info again.

Hi, Ro, I have been watching your videos and I really enjoy them. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have completed a bachelor's degree in nursing, so I guess I will need to start a postgraduate of psychology. However, I am a bit stuck on which uni should I choose. There are so many uni whose fees are cheaper than others including university of New South Wales. I am wondering if I go to the so-called prestigious universities, I might be competitive later in finding jobs? Thanks, Jin
Hi Swaroop! I'll keep that question in mind for future videos to go into more detail! However if you google "NSW Health Psychology Award Rates" the first PDF you see will outline the various recommended rates if you are a general vs. clinical psychologist! (however there is some variability according to which practice you are at!)
Hey Ro! What are the differences in terms of roles or practice of a general psychologist and an endorsed psychologist (clinical)? Also, what are the differences in scope for those choosing the only Masters pathway and those choosing Masters + Doctoral pathway? Im so glad, rather ever so slightly relieved, that I found your channel amidst the horrors of exploring for my postgraduate degree.😊💜
During my clinical masters when I was a provisional psychologist I didn't get paid.. but if you go through a general psychology pathway many people do get paid :)

I am planning to pursue my master's degree in Psych in Australia. I completed my degree from the UK with Honours. What do you think is the best option/program should I take to become a Psychologist at AUS? I heard it’s a bit of a challenge. Hope you see post this thanks a lot 🥹🥹
Hey Tanya! Right now neither- I’m a clinical psychology registrar which means I’ve competed my clinical psychology masters but i need 2 more years of work experience before I can get to call myself ‘clinical psychologist’ :)
In America in order to be considered a “clinical psychologist” you must get a PhD or PsyD which can take a total of 8/9 years of school. I was wondering if you only did a masters program (2 years). In America i did my undergrad and going into my masters but in the USA but here I would be considered a licensed clinical professional counselor, we wouldn’t be considered a psychologist until we went to a phd/psyd program. Was just wondering why in your country getting a masters means you are a psychologist? When here you would just be a therapist.
Hey Summer :) yep you don't need a PhD to become a psychologist in Australia. Including undegrad and postgrad masters it takes 8 years total for us to become a clin psych. Most people who pursue a PhD in addition to a masters are interested in a particular area and those who only do a PhD but not a masters can't become psychologists- most would probably continue into academia or research!

Hi Anila! I'm so sorry I actually have never heard of this! Would highly recommend getting in contact with the admissions centre at the school you'd like to enter! Good luck :)
hi i'm currently in year 11 and just researching about what it takes to be a clinical psychologist since it's always been my dream ! after finishing your honours year do you have to apply for your masters straight away ? or can you do something else for a year or two and then go back ? i also would like to try being an english teacher abroad for a year or two so i was wondering if not studying for that year or two would affect my goal of becoming a psychologist ! i love your videos by the way , your videos are so helpful !
yep most people do other things! in fact I would say that actually gives you an advantage to have a bit more experience :)
Can we do bachelors of arts in psychology?
Yes! There is an arts stream however I don't think there are the same career pathways e.g. pretty sure the arts stream doesn't have the level of statistics/ research the science stream has

Hi Ro! I’m just currently researching if I should go ahead an study Psychology, your videos are amazing and are really helping me. One question was how do you know which endorsement you want to choose. I’m currently tossing up on a couple. Can you please make a video outlining the different ones and what they do or link something for me to help. Thank you so much! Stay safe.

Welcome back Aparnaa!
Hi Roanna, thanks for all the videos which are very helpful. I am thinking about learning psychology. But I am worrying about what if I can’t get the honor degree. Could you please talk about how to be eligible for the honor degree in detail? And is there any other way you can still be a psychologist even if you fail in application for it? Or what other options do you have? Thanks a lot in advance🙏🙏
Hi Tina! At my uni you needed a certain mark of 75 or above- you could just re-take some units or change universities (each one has different application eligibility requirements!) I think you must have an honours degree to become a psych in Australia :)
Pathways start at 8:25 😂
Thanks so much!!
Can an international student work as a clinical psychologist in Australia?
Hi Ro, thanks for your video.. I really want to know your thoughts about diploma of psychology, are they good or not recommended. Please help me, not sure if I should take this diploma and the work availability after diploma.

Hey! I bet u would have thought if u should go to a different country to study psychology and probably did some research about it (but u stayed in Australia only lol) soo what do u think is the best place to study psychology?
And can u recommend any best universities for psychology?
I haven't actually! Though I did study in america which was fun. In australia I would recommend University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, Melbourne Uni, Monash (though to be honest it's hard to speak for unis I havent attended)
Thanks, Jin
If you don’t mind, can you please mention how much you earn per year now? And how much you earned when you just graduated with masters?
Hi Swaroop! I'll keep that question in mind for future videos to go into more detail! However if you google "NSW Health Psychology Award Rates" the first PDF you see will outline the various recommended rates if you are a general vs. clinical psychologist! (however there is some variability according to which practice you are at!)
@@thepsychdiaries thank you!!
Ooh that will be my next video, great timing ;)
I'm from india am i eligible for a masters in psychology in Australia? If yes then which university would be best for me
hi, just wanna know approx. how much do you earn as a supervised intern
During my clinical masters when I was a provisional psychologist I didn't get paid.. but if you go through a general psychology pathway many people do get paid :)
Hi Roanna. My name is Arya. I've done my 3 years bachelor's degree in psychology and my masters in clinical psychology from India. I was thinking of applying to DPsych next year. Can you please tell me if you think I would be eligible for the course and if this is the right way to go to become an endorsed clinical psychologist and if not, which other pathway in your opinion would be the best way to go to. Thank you for a great video!😄
Hey Arya! Thanks for tuning in :) Hmm unfortunately I'm not sure- the requirements differ quite a lot between different countries and unis. I think my advice would be to reach out to your uni's psychology faculty/ the uni you would like to get into and ask their individual requirements. Good luck!
@@thepsychdiaries Hi, again :) Thanks for your advice and responding. I'll get in touch with the uni's to know their requirements. Are there any specific universities that are especially good for psychology in Australia?
@@arya.a3460 There are ranking lists online! (I am personally biased towards USYD/ UNSW in Sydney though :)
@@thepsychdiaries okay great! I'll check them out. Thank you! 😄 Also, your videos are great and informative. Keep it up!
Thanks!

They're phasing out the doctorate? Ahh I just got into one
Congrats and No worries at all! Doesn't mean any changes for anyone who got in- this only affects people who might want a doctorate in a few years! (And by then you'll already be a psychologist!)
Hey Roanna, my name is blessy...and I'm planning to study psychology in Melbourne..can I have a word with you regarding this subject..and it would be great if you help me solve.
Thank you , would be waiting for your response 😊✌🏻
Hey blessy, totally feel free to reply with your question! :)
Hey! You look cool
I am planning to pursue my master's degree in Psych in Australia. I completed my degree from the UK with Honours. What do you think is the best option/program should I take to become a Psychologist at AUS? I heard it’s a bit of a challenge. Hope you see post this thanks a lot 🥹🥹
What type of psychologist are you? Educational or clinical?
You're really sweet, ♥
I want to be a psychiatrist❤
I was searching about psychology nd related things....happy to find u, can u plz tell me how to contact you. plz
Make more videos please!!
Haha done! :)
Superb.
