PEB with Analytical Modeler: Part 2.3- Define Axial behavior of Bracing||TRUSS/Release, Tension-only

  • Pre-engineered buildings are the most common type of steel building and widely used for commercial structures like large warehouse, factory shed or office buildings. Due to it's extra advantages and cost effectiveness, PEB structures are now more popular in the construction industry.
    In this new series on modelling, analysis and design of PEB structure, I will cover various modelling techniques, using STAAD analytical as well as the physical modeler, discuss how to generate the 3d model correctly and reuse the geometry information to assign specification, property and design parameters. Also I will introduce several custom templates which can help us in modelling.
    In this video, I will discuss how we can define a bracing member as truss and tension only member using correct member specification. I will use the same model that we have created in the last video.

    Hi sir, does purlin need to release axial? because it acts as beam, so mainly bending stress

      It is better to consider all force components for purlin member design. If the axial force is small, then the force/capacity ratio will be negligible and will not affect the critical ratio. Also, interaction check is important considering axial + bending condition.
