20 miles North from me is Weird Portland...3 photos from 2 locations on Location Scout. Thanks for letting us know about the App. No more Google Earth in Street View 😂
Hamburg has much to offer for photographers, and it's not always grey, but windy. The wind give many lighting conditions, also cloudy days turns in half an hour to a sunny break, than again cloudy, and so on. Very cool locations on your photowalk, old and new, middle age architecture and modern glas, alternative quarter and luxurious hotel. You are one of my favorite "new hamburgers" in town. 😊
Your workshop participants are going to be really rewarded by your skill and preparation. You have such a great eye for angles and contrast. Great use of resources!
There used to be another App similar to this that I used, it was very helpful when in a new area. Thanks Greg, I will definitely download it & give it a try!
Andy!! Your profile looks like our old cat Snowball. What's your cat's name? Yes sometimes re-exploring the city is a great inspiration. As an ex-pat I always find interesting things too.
@@gregorsnell She was called Suki and she was very much the smuggest cat we’ve ever owned, she was very much in charge. She passed away a few years ago now, but I’ve kept her on as my avatar (we always have at least one cat, for a while we had four PLUS one from round the corner who spent most of his time in our house rather than his)
Mushy skies, mushy water, Greg you have to get over that.😀 I need texture. I am truly amazed at the variety of staircases that you find and they are photographically stunning. It is nice to see that architects are allowed free rein to be creative rather than strictly utilitarian.
lol. Dave those buildings have some sharp edges man, come on now :) Indeed the creativity post war in West Germany is on display in Hamburg, especially from the 60s onward.
Just the type of locations I would go for Greg, each offering up some unique interest and Im sure the participants will come away with some great images from these locations and the others you are planning into the workshop. Good idea switching lenses over as not everyone will be able to shoot as wide as 12mm so getting an idea of focal lengths for each location means you can add that as additional info for participants before they travel as it then gives them an idea of what to expect or what lenses they might want to consider. I would love to shoot that first location with my 17mm and 24mm tilt shifts with all that vertical goodness to be had.
Hahahaha, exactly!! I am having to break it down into something a bit more manageable. It's going to be great JC. See you in February and I'll be in touch with an updated map soon.
Thanks for the tour, gotta like B&W. P.S. get yourself a used Leica, M2 or M3. In my newspaper days long ago I had a M2 plus a SLMot, 4 frames a second, 10 2AA batteries, a beast. Just some trivia, some the best Leica lens were designed in your home province. There's a lot more to that story.
Great Hamburg locations, that Hanse Forum foyer is F@ing cool🤣 I'm on the fence about sharing my favorite photo locations, but the app is cool, might have to take a Southern Ontario trip in the future👍😎 Go Leafs🍁
Manni !! Yeah I got it only for these types of shoots. Interiors, staircases, and architecture. I still use the 16-35 for landscapes. The only landscapes I think the 12-24 f2.8 would be especially good for is astro. It's a unicorn lens and comes with a price to match. That's why I\m still using my Canon 16-35 ;)
Smashing video dude! 👍 I absolutely love location scout and like yourself i have been using it for a good while now. I must admit though i have never uploaded anything but i must start because i have gotten so much out of it! Cheets buddy!
Jeff, what up man? I generally ask if the building has a reception. They are almost always okay with it. Kinda depends on who you meet and what building. Hamburg in general though has been good as you can tell from the videos.
Thank you for the honest feedback James, I highly appreciate it. The spots are based on the community and I agree that there should definitely more than 71 spots for Istanbul in the future. I will see what I can do, deal? All the best to you, Manuel (solo-developer of the platform and the app)
@ManuelBecker - Istanbul is a place people hit for 2 or 3 days maximum and pass through. And during that time, they all hit the usual tourist places - its fairly normal and was likely a story in many other destinations - however there are 1000s here, without a doubt. You have a couple of crackers in the country as a whole though! :)
Great video. We need to get a LOT more photographers and video makers using the app to make it really work for us.
Totally agree!
Wouldn't normally watch this type of video, but as it's you Greg, I trust you to be honest.
Nice vid. No unnecessary blah blah. Appreciate the scouting tip too.
What an awesome staircase at the end!
Thanks, I did not know about this. I will try it, I've never used a location app before.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about it. (I am the solo-developer of the platform and always happy to help)

Greg, thank you so much for making this video, very useful and very much appreciated
Thank you so much for the app! The only thing is that I must your video again. Because this is my favourite content of your channel
Nice one, Greg ! Thanks for the info about the app...will give it a try for sure 👍 Great vid as usual, look forward to more 😊

Great video with great foto´s 👍
I'm a filmmaker in Los Angeles. And I'm always looking for interesting places to film. Thanks for the heads up on this app.
Thanks Greg - there's always plenty to photograph on your doorstep, you just need to take some time to prep and look...
There used to be another App similar to this that I used, it was very helpful when in a new area. Thanks Greg, I will definitely download it & give it a try!
Thanks Greg for showing this app. I bookmarked a few staircases already 👍
You go to loads of cool and exotic places, but your ‘wandering around Hamburg’ videos are always my favourites

Another great video, Greg! Thanks for sharing.
See you in May brother!! 🙌
Dude that would be awesome! Dates are still the 10th - 12th. You can meet Nellie and Matteo too :)
@@gregorsnell the dates are saved!! Would be amazing to meet them! 🙌 looking forward to it
I so want to come back to Hamburg for one of your tours in the future. 🤙
I think I'll run another City Break May 10th - 12th. Get in touch if you have the availability to join over those dates 👍🙂
@@gregorsnell will do 🙌
That's a really cool app! I can tell it took you to some really cool spots around the city. The photos came out great!

Really whetting my appetite for this trip now 😂 See you in a couple of weeks!
The hotel staircase is a really fantastic find! Fun video as always! 🙂
What a great tip. Thanks 👍

Great vid! Love all the urban stuff you've been doing!
Casey!! Good to see you here man. & thanks. The city is full of great photos, they're just not iconic landscapes.
Oh yes i love that app too!! Use it for quite some time now love it!
That's so nice to hear and such a great start to the next week :-) Thank you! Manuel (developer of the app)

Quality vid Greg. Loving your architecture shots. I was looking at the Sony 12-24 earlier to go with my 16-35. Bolivia next……wow……..jealous

Nice video - one question, what backpack are you using ? Thanks of a short reply!
Shimoda Explore 30L.
Good info. Worth a look. Atacama, eh? That'll test your respiratory system. Carry on. 👍🥂
Ohhh yeah get ready for 3,500+m on the regular. I hope after the first week of headaches I'll be feeling fine ;)
@@gregorsnell I spent 10 days in Peru, and it took me 5 days after I left the mountains to get right. The struggle is real.
Amazing photographs. I did not know about Location Scout. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels

Wish they would have a map link for directions in the spots on the app.
That's one of the premium features I think. I agree, having your location showing on the map is a massive bonus too.
Surprised they let you shoot inside an office building. These days.....
Jeff, what up man? I generally ask if the building has a reception. They are almost always okay with it. Kinda depends on who you meet and what building. Hamburg in general though has been good as you can tell from the videos.
Asking isn't a bad idea! @@gregorsnell
Downloaded the App and put in my location. It said LOST. 😂
hahahaha, the explorer is never lost.
True Story@@gregorsnell
Such a useless app in Istanbul unfortunately. Nothing of note - one new style mosque ceiling thats all - rest is all touristy.
Booooo!! lol. Sorry to hear that mate. There are still tons of gems to be found in IST though. You're already on it from what I can see.
@gregsnell - yeah it has to be done ✔️
