I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in my beautiful country ! Just a little advice concerning the macarons, coming from a french girl ! A better LOCAL brand for macaron to buy in Paris is "RICHART" they have a boutique next to the d'Orsay Museum. They are so much more decadent than La Durée and slightly cheaper. You'll also have variation of "pate de fruits" and chocolates. The employees are so nice and they will happily take the time to explain the whole making process if you are interested : all made in France (in contrary to La Durée's factory and ingredients)! Love your video as always!
Just declare your stuff if asked. Throwing away your boxes doesn’t make a difference. Especially if you have global entry. If they find out you didn’t declare your goods, you’ll get your privileges revoked. I just came home, declared my stuff and customs just let me go because I was honest. I didn’t pay any duty on large purchases.
@@nobody-z9i3y yes, but you need to show it as well while purchasing, otherwise you will not get the special receipt and will not be elligable for refund
In Switzerland you are allowed to bring in something up to CHF 300.- Once you are over that threshold you have to declare at custom, or if nobody is there fill out a form that is available at the border (you can also self declare on the website of border control). Once you ask for tax refund (tax free shoppping) the country where you shopped has your information and the countries work together. So in Switzerland when they get the information and they can’t find your payment for the VAT, you’ll get a letter asking for the proof of payment. If you can’t provide it you have to pay the tax plus a fine and in the worst case they’ll report you for a crime. So always declare at custom if there is something to declare.
@@VampireSock It’s not a garantee. Custom agents are trained for that. There was a newspaper article about exactly that a few days ago. Anyway in January 2025 the limit of free goods is being lowered to CHF 150.-/person here 😕

The best gift I got my mom unknowingly was when I went to Paris and went to the catacombs and didn’t know you needed to reserve beforehand so I ended up walking around and down some random alleyway with Asian supermarkets there was a random looking chocolate shop decided to go in and get some for my mom and it was apparently I think the older chocolatier in France something called a la mère de famille i don’t remember the exact price but for what it was and the amount I got I think I paid like 20 euros so pretty good. I brought it home having no idea that these weren’t just random chocolates and my mom loved them so much and ended up looking them up and told me they were the oldest chocolate store in Paris and I was like what a coincidence
Macrons are not the best souvenir unless you get them the day or the day before you leave. They don’t last long at room temp and a week in the fridge. I bought a 12 pack from Louis Vuitton thinking they’ll be fine to bring back. I ended up having to eat the whole box over the course of the week 😂
In Canada if you lie about your purchase and don’t declare your goods that exceed the duty-free amount - if you get caught, they’ll fine you a penalty and likely put a red flag on your file so that the next 7 years you’ll be automatically sent to Secondary inspection (if you travel for over a few days, you get a duty-free allotment of $800)
Omg stop come to Milan. You can get Collistar, Biotherm, Bionike, and Rilastil skincare which is way better. And btw Marvis is Italian not french lol !!! Also, valtellina butter is much better and you can buy all luxury brands here for cheaper and with vat refund. Milan also has better food and culture and is more important and famously known worldwide. And btw if you really want to get macarons at LEAST go to pierre hermé or fauchon gastronomy/epicerie, seriously girl what are you even doing ?!?!
That’s a cool video but I don’t understand how you can buy butter and macarons which are fresh products that need to be put in the fridge directly ^^ can someone explain to me the information i’m missing please ?
She vacuum sealed it. Organic matter (so any food) rots or spoils because of the organisms that live on it. These organisms need oxygen to thrive. When you vacuum pack the food, the organisms lose their life source and die out, so your food remains relatively safe. There’s a lot more to it but basically no oxygen = no spoiling of food
Guys, even butter kept out of a fridge needs to be kept in a rather cool place (search for 'beurrier breton' or 'beurrier à eau' on your fav browser): you still need to change the water for fresh cool one once every 2/3days. So even if air-sealing it, your butter will melt.
I usually travel with ice packs in a cooler bag. That's how I bring cheeses back. It goes straight into the fridge when I get home. I also bring ziploc bags and packing tape, in case I purchase anything that can leak. My mother in law has even sent cheese by normal mail before.. Hahahaha.. Husband ate it and he's still alive! 😂😂
Do you not have Marvis in your country? Also, Ladurée is technically not even French anymore (they’re owned by a Swiss company). More importantly, they’re not even good compared to many other macaroons, especially the locally produced ones, as they’re mass produced in a factory. There are many better things to buy in Paris.
Can you please explain how you get your that VAT refund because when we went through Germany and Switzerland and spent thousands of dollars on items to bring home, in the airport they claimed we would only get like an $13 refund which we thought was ridiculous as we obviously paid more in taxes. We even submitted receipts after we got home and they didn’t send us anything and we paid a lot.
Sometimes you have to fill out a form In the country u are in before flying home . And with duty free u can’t use it till u travel to your final destination
first of all when you buy sth you need to ask the the shop to have a specific receipt for the future refund (it is not the regular bill, you need to have passport on you while buying and show it), you need to check each country's law, maybe there are some specific items or max amount for spend. plus you need to show everything that you bought at the airport while claiming the refund and it can not be used, needs to be unopened etc (so if you would put it check in then refund does not apply for this item). and then after you land at your home country they can ask you if you have something to declare (again, there is a bracket on what you dont need to declare specific to your country but if your purchases are higher then this is the place to open everything so it is not obvious you bought it there but rather you already had it). remember you can get a fee for the items that you did not declared but should
