    Thank you. I bought this TTRPG because I have a nice girl with Autism who really wanted to play D&D. I thought Root would be better for her (she also loved cute animals). This makes it a lot easier to figure out how to play so I can set it up quicker for her.

    Imagine that...some RPGs become board games, but this reverse transition happens less frequently. Cool cool

      Maximum apocalypse was originally a board game. I cannot recommend it enough.

    I Love the art in this game. So children's story time feeling. Reminds me of Charlie Brown or other Saturday mourning cartoons, also Mouse Guards. Very cool.

      Play the boardgame it's based on. It looks cute and cuddly but it's one of the meanest most cut throat games you'll ever play lol

    Thanks for making a great video! I'm looking forward to getting this game and sharing it with my granddaughter. The rules and the setting look easy to grasp and a lot of fun.

    For anyone else wondering, it is actually beavers, not otters, that are known for building wooden structures in the water.

    Is there a reference sheet for this game, haven't been able to find one.

    How would this be for 8 year olds?
    The subsystems seem a little complex compared to DnD or Tinyd6

    • @davyclaessens9357
      @davyclaessens9357 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I tried running it today for my 7 and 9 year old. So 8 on average. :-) I'm happy to say they managed it pretty quickly. Full disclosure: I have the KS edition which included the equipment deck, making the equipment and its moves very tangible.

    • @PossumMedic
      @PossumMedic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd recomend the equipment deck too! The equipment building system is really cool and versatile but can be confusing at first.
      Also wanted to point out that although the art is cute there are grittier moves like murder and political themes so just be aware of that.

    For RPGs, it would be nice to know player counts. Board games are good about displaying player counts but RPGs usually leave it out for some reason - even though not every RPG handles solo, or infinite players.

    The root rpg assumes otters can construct elaborate wooden based structures?! The root rpg buffed otters and nerfed beavers 😂 otters officially OP

    This is such an odd game. Players play furry & feathery animals with vague notions of money & distances, so it seems like a game for kids. And yet “move” actions are numerous and granular, & the setting is highly political.

      yeah the board game for Root has the same art style and theme but is a pretty aggressive war game really.
