When Elon Musk mentioned that the Tesla Bot will eventually be sold for $20,000, most of us probably assumed that’s the price for the entire Optimus robot. But that’s not exactly the case. With three versions of Optimus-Gen 1, Gen 2, and the soon-to-be-released Gen 3-Tesla isn’t planning to phase out any of these models. Each version will serve its own purpose and specific goals.
While Gen 1 will mainly be used internally at Tesla’s factories, Gen 2 will be the version sold to the public, targeted at large companies or individual buyers. Musk has confirmed this plan.

With Birthrates declining and lifespans increasing in the West, the bigger issue is lack of workers and caregivers rather than worker displacement and unemployment. I think Optimus is a solution, not a problem. Endless patience to work with the elderly and those with dementia and/or 1-on-1 support 24x7 will be superior to anything else that humans have been able to demonstrate so far. I would trust Optimus far more than some minimum wage caregiver who could really care less about me and is likely to steal, neglect, or worse. I’m really looking forward to an Optimus in my future! 😀
