A few interesting thoughts came to mind with this video: Optimus’ gate going up and down hills resembles either someone elderly or a young child - in both cases trying to learn about speed and balance in new settings - seems reasonable for a machine learning to function in new and novel settings. Toyota and solid state batteries: good! A traditional car maker seriously looking to innovate in the EV market. It’s interesting that it’s taken Toyota 14 years to increase range 50% (1000 km to 1500 km). They must still be pretty far from mass production or there is some other downside like total battery life (not stated) or hazards or cost or . Why wouldn’t Toyota have introduced the solid state 600 mile version in production cars sooner to compete? It must still be mainly still in the lab. 4680 is in high volume production so 4680 killer seems a bit overblown. Tesla working with CATL on solid state battery packs seems to be the response to Toyota. First time it’s registered 20:00 that model Y refresh uses 80% different parts. It would be nice to know which 80% and why? Is this for ease of manufacturing? The interior doesn’t seem THAT different and the exterior changes seem pretty minor: primarily lights. Good video.

Honestly, 10k is not bad if it’s useful and autonomous and does chores around the house and can take care of humans AND animals. I’ll save up to buy one day if I’m still around that is lol hopefully cheaper than 10k though. But I have to see it to believe it.

After watching the clip of Optimus loading batteries for months now, it finally struck me: why pick and place with only ONE hand? Shouldn’t it be able to bring the other hand up and reach to pick up the next battery once the previous battery gets placed? Even if they need to happen serially, it seems like a waste of resource and time to have one arm not doing anything in the operation until it need to carry the tray. Humans could likely use both hands, why not Optimus?

Interesting. I wonder how broad Elon plans to go to launch Tesla into the realm of a Tech Company. I would have thought the margins would be too small with low cost, feature-rich TVs and, aside from sustainability and a new platform for X, it seems a bit tangential to the core parts of Tesla’s product strategy. I’m not sure what’s different enough about the TV experience to wow consumers. Electric Cars and humanoid robots are major departures from what’s available on the market. What will cheaper ai enabled TVs do to push the status quo? I guess Tesla candy fits into the same bucket. Steve Jobs preached the secret to a great company (leader) was being fanatical about saying ‘No’ to a myriad of great ideas that could be done so they could focus on the vital few that would be great products worthy of denting the universe.

Be careful mixing in AI or cgi generated clips without labeling them as such. The clips of a line of Optimus robots walking down an assembly line are clearly dubious. Their gate is too natural, clearly well beyond anything Tesla has released to date. The lack of attribution watermark in the upper left corner is another clue. Use of synthetic video without some label like “artist rendering” or brings suspicion on the validity of the rest of the reporting.

Having multiple versions of Teslabots selling simultaneously is new news. It depends upon price, options, and capabilities vs use case. If gen 2 can do enough of what I want - clean the house, care for grandma, and walk the dog, then I’m fine with paying for the lower-priced version. If I need the 22 dof hands to be a replacement worker, then I’ll have to justify the higher price. As with most purchases, it will be a trade-off of price for value.

What are you raising the price now on the Tesla buck to 30000?

With Birthrates declining and lifespans increasing in the West, the bigger issue is lack of workers and caregivers rather than worker displacement and unemployment. I think Optimus is a solution, not a problem. Endless patience to work with the elderly and those with dementia and/or 1-on-1 support 24x7 will be superior to anything else that humans have been able to demonstrate so far. I would trust Optimus far more than some minimum wage caregiver who could really care less about me and is likely to steal, neglect, or worse. I’m really looking forward to an Optimus in my future! 😀

I'm excited for this technology to enter the mainstream. Currently, many people are nervous or outright opposed to it, particularly those fearing job loss. However, a generation or two from now, when those who fear it due to ignorance or its novelty have passed, such technology will likely be seen as normal and widely accepted. It's a safe bet that once those born before the year 2000 are no longer around, technologies like Tesla's Optimus robot will flourish without much prejudice. Optimus could handle routine or repetitive jobs, freeing humans to pursue more interesting and creative career and life goals. Optimus might take care of mundane chores to more complex operations in factories, represents a significant leap towards integrated AI in daily life. As acceptance grows, we might see these robots in homes, workplaces, and public spaces, revolutionizing how we interact with technology. I think that’s a great thing, since it could free up humans to pursue things that aren’t a waste of a humans potential.

I appreciated the tone of future opportunity and reality checks about when Optimus will likely be available for sale and for what price. Previous videos seemed to pronounce it would be available for purchase within the next 24 months at a price of $20K which is likely many years off. I liked your use of audio clips of Elon’s statements. It helps lend more credibility. This video feels more even-handed and less super-hype. Nice job!

People are talking about flying cars all the time. Has the sound of a jet, helicopter, or airplane ever passed your house? Consider the thousands of them that come and go by your home every day. It will be impossible for you to hear yourself. Drones with four propellers in particular are very noisy, making flying automobiles impractical. Whoever did this didn't think about that, or maybe they don't care. And if they develop all these robots they're talking about, people won't even have any jobs available.

I appreciated the updated script for the power watch positioning it more as a speculation or prediction rather than a sure thing. It makes sense that Elon would opt to build out a Tesla Ecosystem and that would further differentiate Tesla as a Technology company, not simply a car company. Nice report.

Very interesting. First I’ve heard of this concept. The reporting makes it seem inevitable with statements like the power watch will do xyz. This seems highly speculative at this point, but does raise some interesting prospects for the future. What are your sources?

I see this was an episode with some repurposed content, but I have a few comments as feedback for improvement. At 12:36 the script produces words that are not understandable regarding release date. The first voice repeatedly pronounces 4680 as Four Thousand Six Hundred Eighty and should pronounce it as Fourty-six Eighty. There are a few places where it pronounces taxis as Tax-iss rather than Tax-eez. There seem to be a few places in the early part of the segment on Optimus where the voice starts a sentence with Yeah,… which I think is too casual for the newscaster-style of the voice. It is best as a neutral reporter who is delivering facts rather than trying to be casual or relatable like the second voice.

Maybe I’m just used to Optimus design, however, unitree design is far less comforting than Optimus. Ball shaped hands, missing or empty head, weird body proportions, etc. make unitree’s look very unnerving. I applaud Elon for making Optimus very familiar looking, if not, too human looking.
