Great to see an old sl3000 unit!, my first job after leaving school was with a Sony dealership in Bristol just as Sony launched the SL8000 domestic Betamax onto the UK market place. Sold a lot of those beasts!, along with the SL3000 and its matching range of HVC2000 ,3000, cameras. Then the launch of the SL-C7. Which became such a in demand unit we would sell 10/15 a day in its first few weeks of launch all at top price £649.99! Happy times.....
Cool to see you looking after these old units. 12VoltVids had the exact same fault not that long ago. It is exciting to know that the faults somewhat rotate - I mean there usually are breaks on the same parts in the similar places on every VCR when it passes certain age...
It's absolutely fantastic to watch and follow your channel, especially all the equipment you get to buy which is also not professional and broadcast. really exciting and especially Sony Betamax
Great that you were able to glue that fractured plastic gear :-D 12voltvids has the same problem and super glue to the rescue. Somewhere there must be a spec for the gear, to compare it to common ones. Your sons always delivers lol :-D
Clearly Betacam is related to Betamax, since they use the same cassette. I've successfully recorded Betacam onto a domestic L-750 cassette in a Sony BVW-75P, and got 30mins of record time. The BVW series are the only ones that can record both Betacam and BetacamSP formats. I think the Technology Connections video was just saying Betamax is not Betacam, which is true they are different formats but using the same cassette.
I found a brass gear from a hobby shop. It needed to be modified: cut to length and the centre hole drilled out for an interference fit on the shaft but it has worked well so far. I think I've done this on three Betamax machines so far.
I had one of these units... I had bought version of Empire strikes back and wow did he sound awesome! Without a doubt sounded better then VHS stereo.. although im sure people who argue that
TC's intention was to debunk the idea that Beta was the better format of the two domestic video formats "because tv stations used it". His point was that no matter how much Sony reused the mechanical part of the original Beta, the video signal in Betacam was completely different and incompatible. He argued that, once Sony was forced to slow down the speed of the Beta format to keep up with VHS longer tape running times, the slight advantage of a better image quality of the original Beta, vanished.
I'm not too sure that Tech. conn. video was a response to Colin's video about the Beta format, I think it was a coincidense, but if it is that's not appropriate, Colin made excelent points about the Beta format, I don't care what T.C thinks, He doesn't have the knowledge and experience that Colin has to respond to his videos.
A resin 3d printer might be able to print that - though the materials might not be a strong as normal 3D printer filaments. (I have 2 HF100's by the way).
I had a fantastic old Betacam SP camera with around 120 faulty and badly leaking SMD capacitors...nightmare. Never seen so many to deal with. Chucked it in the bin eventually as too many caps to deal with. That's the problem with a lot of that old stuff, not worth the effort.
Another cracker, Colin - thank you. I think I saw on 12 volt vids that you can rejuvenate dim VFDs by oversupplying them for a very short period, which burns off any oxidation on the holding wires I’ll see if I can find the video and mail a link to you
Betacam was a professional/broadcast tape format, whereas Betamax was a consumer tape format. As we all know that. But, there is no commonality between the recorded signal systems of the two formats. They are incompatible. The only commonality was the basic cassette shell design, which Sony decided to reuse for the Betacam, which came later after Betamax, I believe. Betacam also went on to use a much larger cassette size for longer recording/playback time and also the Betacam SP update, which improved the Betacam signal quality via higher resolution and better colour. I worked as an engineer in the broadcast industry during the heyday of Betacam, and the regular Betacam with smaller cassette, which looked very similar to Betamax cassette but with oxide tape inside was used for commercial ads playback. Usually, one 5 minute Betacam oxide tape cassette contained just one ad of 5, 15, 30 or 60 seconds. So if 100 separate commercials are to be played, there would be 100 Betacam small size cassettes. All handled by robotic library system controlled by computers and it would play the commercials according to a playlist. The larger Betacam SP cassettes with metal particle tape inside would be used to play back movies or other shows. The library system would switch the playback back and forth between the ads and program tapes according to a playlist. I worked on the Sony BVC-10 Betacart, a 40 cassette library system and LMS-1000, a 1, 000 cassette library system; it handled a mix of small oxide Betacam tapes and the larger Betacam SP tapes. All barcoded, so the library would know what material each cassette contained.
The smaller tapes were usually (but not always) metal tape BetacamSP too. I probably come across 20 BetacamSP tapes for every oxide one which shows up. There is one commonality between domestic Beta and professional Betacam, the linear audio tracks are in the same place, probably so the early machines could use the same audio heads as they already had available. There were also commonalities in the equipment such as some batteries and internal components.
I hear RCA cable is the lowest quality when u play VHS tape . Is there any way to play it with high quality. I search for vcr with component ports but for the most of vcr it is only composite
I have a SL-HF100P (industrial duplicator). It has now started to stop after few second of play/rewind/forward. Intermittently it will play about 10 minutes after pressing play/rewind few times. Any clues where to start?
The reel idler is called a pendulum. It wears its support post at the plastic base. Inserting a thin washer under the reel idler can help, but you have to take the reel drive assembly out.
Quite true, the gears are beyond 3d print technology but I can't help but think some other no skill options exist. Clearly model engineers have the the equipment to machine/CNC gears for miniture stream locomotives and so on but that is a high investment option. But casting in plastics seems on option perhaps by making a mould from an original part as some modellers indeed do. I am not a modeller so... pinch of salt.
hi watch your video i watched his video as well i will say it's a right head bagger along time ago i posted a test video to see who i would up set the funny thing i was told by a man who to work at the bbc his mate left this world to a bad fall he said on here you got to be very carefull what you say as it's a war of youtubers on here the only thing the SL-HF100 are doing a slow die i have somme betacam sp 1800uvw i will have to make a video to post on youtube i have 4 of them i tracked to where they are playing up very likely they are parts decks be cause you can't get the parts any more when i had the hi-fi i was get the decks going bad over time there is a time there will not be any working decks love the sony bvw 75 i have 8 of them i will say all had jammed up moving parts and bad fronts panel easy to fix up i same with the later sony A500p decks love watching you video i see it's all the same parts going down i would keep spare's for the 100 decks if you are using them for work time is money that's the think with making video's it's so easy to up alot of people with out knowing there is one i watch he wears eye wear and some time up set some people will not say the name uk one
Weird question... Does anyone know if the window on the top of the hf100 came with removable plastic film like a lot of modern products? I ask because I acquired a machine today and there looks to be plastic film but I'm too afraid to remove it in case the logos come off with it 😅

That SL-3000 is a lovely looking machine.

I think there are some similar gears from radio controlled cars that will fit and work. I had a scrap SL-C20 to donate the loading gear for my HF-100

The tape slowing comments may or may not be true in NTSC world. Beta outperforms VHS in PAL and only has the one speed.
I have some SL-HF100 , great Betamax

Seriously considering buying a small resin 3D printer for that reason as I agree it's the way to go to get some additional strength.

hi they are allways going down more breaks in them i wonder how long they will last
Sounds like you're cranking the engine but won't start.
I hear RCA cable is the lowest quality when u play VHS tape . Is there any way to play it with high quality. I search for vcr with component ports but for the most of vcr it is only composite
Use an S-VHS machine which has S-Video connections. It's a very worthwhile improvement even with regular VHS tapes.
I have a SL-HF100P (industrial duplicator). It has now started to stop after few second of play/rewind/forward. Intermittently it will play about 10 minutes after pressing play/rewind few times. Any clues where to start?

@@video99couk It was typical head’s hall sensor after all. Thank you for your great videos🙂

I expect the dead Sony camcorder is full bad elect caps.
hi watch your video i watched his video as well
i will say it's a right head bagger along time ago i posted a test video to see who i would up set
the funny thing i was told by a man who to work at the bbc his mate left this world to a bad fall
he said on here you got to be very carefull what you say
as it's a war of youtubers on here the only thing the SL-HF100 are doing a slow die i have somme betacam sp 1800uvw
i will have to make a video to post on youtube i have 4 of them i tracked to where they are playing up
very likely they are parts decks be cause you can't get the parts any more
when i had the hi-fi i was get the decks going bad over time there is a time there will not be any working decks
love the sony bvw 75 i have 8 of them i will say all had jammed up moving parts and bad fronts panel easy to fix up i
same with the later sony A500p decks love watching you video i see it's all the same parts going down
i would keep spare's for the 100 decks if you are using them for work time is money
that's the think with making video's it's so easy to up alot of people with out knowing
there is one i watch he wears eye wear and some time up set some people will not say the name uk one

I ask because I acquired a machine today and there looks to be plastic film but I'm too afraid to remove it in case the logos come off with it 😅
That film still seems to be in place on all three of my HF100 machines. I think I would leave it alone.
