Wow! Really good work! It's a shame that both remote controls couldn't be saved, but better one than none. I think attaching the front lid with the cable is a great idea, but unfortunately it was a little too quick for me. 😉

Thank you so much. Apologies, I should have filmed the door repair better but I missed to record the actual fitting of the wire and that was my first attempt which failed anyway! I will be fixing more doors and this method works pretty well so I'll try to show in a lot more detail for you next time.

@@MrBetaByte Sony remote controls are so difficult to disassemble because it is difficult to see how they are constructed. With the very old remote controls, there is also the brittle old plastic. Back then I bought two remote controls for my "headless" Sony SL-S3000, an RMT-231 and an RMT-212. Both were in very poor and dirty condition. Unfortunately, a few of the rubber buttons on the RMT-212 had been bitten by a hamster or mouse. After thoroughly cleaning and repairing the battery acid damage, they became much nicer. Maybe I'll show them both in more detail in a video. I like the design of the Sony remotes very much. 😊

I've been trying to follow along with this playlist as I've recently had one of these drop into my lap - for what it's worth, do you think you could gather specifications (dimensions, values, polarity, etc.) for both the stock caps, and recommended replacments, and publish a guide somewhere on caps(dot)wiki, please?
While I do absolutely appreciate the effort you go to making these videos in the first place, when you've got a Mouser order open on one hand, and are juggling a TH-cam video on the other, things can get a little bit... Well, you know what I mean. 😅
Oh, one more thing: said new to me deck displays a picture with heavy noise bars - but it clears up when forward/reverse picture searching. That makes me think a head clog, but paper soaked in IPA comes up clean. I will try cleaning the entire tape transport and muster up the courage to refurbish the head drum, but while you're here... Would you have any other suggestions as to what I could try next? (Cap or otherwise?)
    Thank you! :D

They are great machines if they are looked after.

Mate these have been invaluable! One question though, our flap cover that goes over the timer controls etc on the unit has got broken tab/s on. Do you know how it originally attached?? I usually make replica plastic parts out of old plastic then epoxy glue, file and sand. Takes a bit of patience but usually looks pretty good. I just need to know how it originally looked 😂 have you got one that isn't broken lying around that you could send me a photo of?? 🙏 can't get my head around how it would have been.

I'm not particularly interested in flaps and remote controls, as they're not absolutely necessary for digitizing tapes. The question therefore arises as to whether the customer wants to add the device to a collection or wants to sell it.

I hear what you're saying my friend. This one does fall into the home enthusiast category. This machine was for someone who has tape but had no machine and bought this one from eBay only to find it needed some TLC so I wanted him to have the full experience of using the machine from his arm chair and it look as good as possible in his front room. 😊
