What a wonderful video, I did enjoy watching the little soul munching her walnuts. Thank you so much for looking after her, I wish there were more truly godly people like you. There's a line in the hymn 'O Praise Ye the Lord' - it's 'This earth with its store of wonders untold'. Well, Lucky Girl and her fellow opossums are one of its wonders. Amazing little furballs.
Thank you for taking care of her. I found Lucky Girl dragging herself along the ground also. Thankfully she can go to the bathroom by herself, but we stimulate her so that she can pee on the towels we have, instead of in her pen. We do clean her bottom when she poops. We clean her pouch once a day because she lays on it all the time and it never gets fresh air and she cannot clean it herself. As for a diet recommendation, I would go to the Facebook group "Opossum diet and medical care" to look at the files tab at the top to get dietary guidelines. There are other groups, like "Opossum underground" and "Opossum care and rescue"
Bless you for caring for her. Possums are pretty sweet. They're also great to have around the yard. They eliminated the snails and cockroaches, and kept the rats away. They do it for free without poisons. 😁
So adorable! I’ve had 2 possums with crippled hind legs, Emilio & Mars. Sadly, Mars died last night (Emilio passed away in May of 2020 when he was just 2 years old which crushed me and a few weeks later I adopted baby Mars). Mars was nearly 4 years old which is quite old for a possum and he had a great life that wouldn’t have been possible had he not been adopted. He knew how much his papa (me) loved him and he passed away peacefully in his sleep. I’m heartbroken and I miss him so much but such is the nature of this life. I adopted another baby possum, Oakley, a female, back in August knowing that Mars likely didn’t have a long time left as his health was fading fast. It definitely makes it easier having her with me now that Mars is gone but nothing can completely take away the pain of losing him. But Christ said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to ground apart from your Father.” (Matthew 10:29). I take a lot of comfort in that verse and I know that although Mars is no longer here with me, he’s not gone and I will see him again in the next life. God bless.
Thank you for the heartfelt comments. I also feel the same. Recently our Ronnie boy passed away and you are right that it is difficult to get over but I know that he had the best life with us. We will see him again.
You are so sweet caring for the opi. You are very kind. Greetings from (freezing) Canada where I house 2 opi till spring. It's illegal here so please don't tell animal services.
I have a framework for my dog who can't use her hind legs. It has a harness on the front and wheels on the back. Perhaps you could get one for your Lucky Girl.
you people have such great hearts. i see disabled opossums and all i can think is them saying "thank you for giving me a chance" and i cry so much concerning it. i rehabbed possums for upwards to 3 years and i just love them so much, thank you thank you thank you. such amazing people and such big hearts. is there any way we can support you and help?@@shigella63
hello! i also have a disabled possum! she had the same injurious lucky girl has but she can go to the bathroom on her own which i am grateful for! are there any tips or tricks you guys could tell me? ive never raised a possum before but i have a lot of experience with many other animals. at what age should i start checking her pouch? is it common for them to like toys? i bought her some specialty food but are there other things they might enjoy snacking on? i have only had her a few weeks and im having trouble finding information that isnt just "let the wild run its natural course" which i know overall is best bc you cant save them all, but i couldnt just watch an injured baby drag herself around in the rain so i made a decision..
Thank you for taking care of her. You can go to the Facebook groups: "Opossum diet and medical care" or "the opossum underground" or "Opossum care and rescue" to get some advice and the correct diet, which is really important. There is not any store bought foods for Opossums that is any good. We feed our Lucky Girl eggs, spinach, collard greens, unsweetened yogurt, walnuts, low sugar human baby food, sardines, chicken, etc. Variety is the key.
she's so precious. seeing the way she loves her walnuts and nothing else will do just had me crying...

Thank you for your thoughts. We have tried five different devices. She is terrified of them all. So she will not use them, but we did try.
