This really grooves! But anything that musically involves Bob Mintzer is going to groove! The dude is the ultimate tenor Sax Jazz player and is one of my heroes. Great sound, great musicians!
Nguyên Lê (Vietnamese: Lê Thành Nguyên; born 14 January 1959) is a French Jazz musician and Composer of Vietnamese ancestry. His main instrument is guitar, and he also plays electric bass guitar and guitar synthesizer. He has released numerous albums, both as a leader and as a sideman. His 1996 album Tales from Viêt-Nam blends jazz and traditional Vietnamese music. Nguyên Lê has performed with Randy Brecker, Vince Mendoza, Bob Mintzer, Eric Vloeimans, Carla Bley, Michel Portal, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Per Mathisen, Marc Johnson, Peter Erskine, Trilok Gurtu, Paolo Fresu and Dhafer Youssef.[3] In spring 2011 he released Songs of Freedom, an album with cover versions of pop hits from the 1970s.
The premiere US small group jazz ensemble meets the premiere European large group jazz ensemble, outstanding arranging and something has to be said about the quality of the recording as well, the microphones and mix that is so difficult to get right in a live setting, this is what happens when the sound artists performing are recorded by sound artists of an equally virtuoso level. Thanks. Bravo.
@Sven Ekeberg There are, but the WDR Bigband really stands out. Check out their work. The level of craftsmanship, their versatility, the culture of playing is way up there with the very best. There is a reason why Vince Mendoza works with them a lot, why their current leader is a guy named Bob Mintzer and why Peter Erskine - a drummer who worked with them all - says that this is simply the best BigBand around.
It is difficult place this or that as premiere group. I like WDR pretty much -- top musicians, arrangement, choide of repertoire and visiting [stellar] instrumentalists and singers. But there are other big band orchestras wich perform at the same level. The same be said about the Yellowjackets.
Man O Man WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!!.....Thank you Michael... Been waiting for someone to post this whole concert.. Jackets on steroids with the powerful big band arrangement. The group is just so tight and mighty thanks to the genius of Vince Mendoza. What else can ya say......Awesome!
Excellent arrangements!! Excellent Sound!! Great cohesiveness!! It's as if they have been playing together for years...This is what I could not do as a keyboard player all my life...cause I can't read a note of music. This kind of music can only be produced by musicians who read music in their sleep!!

Well said - the recording really is outstanding.
Yes, this is pretty nice, but there are many many great ensembles out there, all over the world...
Add my Bravo to yours, Scott. Well stated, man.

The best of both worlds. Beautiful! I have always loved big band music and I love the YellowJackets, so perfect! Thanks Michael for sharing.

Great to watch Jimmy Haslip enjoying so much the music and playing at the side of Nguyen -- the guitar player.
the guitar player played such nice
What kind of ride cymbal is Mr. Kennedy using on Azure Moon? Love it!
brilliant, whole concert !!!
So very good. Yeah!
Just found this. The virtuosity is beyond belief.
my favorite of the night @9:20 !!!!
thanks a lot, i looking for this full video since couple years ago!!!
Best Concert I've seen
This version of Azure Moon is, well, over the moon. Or it has me over the moon anyway. Incredible with full brass and woodwinds behind it!
I love it too. It's a great version.
It got me into tears the other night... When the orchestra tunes itself in during tenor solo, it's emotionally overwhelming.
@@anttipollanen3671 Nguyen Le's solo kicked it up to another level too, totally unexpected. Incredible performance by all.
Looks like an ad for Electro-Voice RE20s!
Excellent,
Azure Moon starts at 9.20. Real fine solos by Nguyen Le on guitar and Olivier Peters on tenor.
Who played soprano sax on Orange Guitars?
Heiner Wiberny
Bravo!
Wow..I just knew that YJ make a lyric version of their composition "Evening Dance".. the singer also so great (don't know her name)
Who plays percussion here?
Wow.
Die Frisur von Andy Haderer gibt es übrigens heute bei Deiters!
